its an early upgrade........

its an early upgrade........

I bought my 3G the day it came out in 2008. AT&T told me that I could upgrade on July 11, 2010. I guess the 3G must have come out on July 11, 2008. If this is so, will everyone that bought the new 3G on release date have to wait till July 11 for a 4G? If so, there will be a lot of upset people for a month.

You started your contract on July 11, 2008? Was that a brand new contract or upgrade that day?

You have to wonder one of two things:

1. The iPhone will be released after June 18th of this year, or else many of us who purchased last year will have to wait at least a few days before buying.

2. AT&T will reinstate the same policy they did last year. Anyone who purchased during the month of June 09 and pays at least $100 a month on a line will be eligible on launch day.

Otherwise, no one who bought a 3GS will be able to buy the new 4G on launch day if Apple does release it earlier than ever before. I bought on launch day last year, and I won't be able to buy it fully until 6/20/10, which may be a week after it goes on sale. We'll see one way or the other. One of those two must be true, or else the launch day festivities will be underwhelming, and Apple certainly doesn't want that unless they release it for all the major carriers. Then it may not matter.

I'm really hope AT&T does what they did last year with the whole "if you bought on launch, and your bill is over 100" deal, but I won't be holding my breath for it.

They'd certainly have an incentive to do that if apple is releasing it on verizon. Otherwise those who want to leave would just wait a few days and leave.

Well they need to do something to reel us 3GS users back into another contract. They get their most money on launch day because of everyone wanting it at once.

You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing. Additional discounts may be available on 12/17/2010

As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a reduced discount, along with a 2-year commitment. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 12/17/2010

This is odd. Two conflicting statements? So I can upgrade this summer?

i think it states that you pay the 399/499 price point. gl.

Yeah, when I scroll down the page, those are the prices I get. I want to upgrade to the new iPhone. :(

Maybe they will make another exception this time for those of us who purchased the iPhone 3GS at or around the release date.

Please sticky.

What does this mean?
That's an early upgrade, which means you pay a bit more than the new customer/eligible people, but less than unsubsidized. Early upgrade is usually $200 more than the new customer price/eligible for upgrade price.

Which means that if you're not qualified for a discounted upgrade then it makes more sense to cancel your contract and buy a new phone rather than pay the outrageous unsubsidized price. This is assuming you bought the contract with the former $175/200 ETF and you want to buy into a new contract...

So does that mean there going to add 2 more years, to my alreaddy 2years?
Because I did not even have my 3gs for a year yet?
How do I go about this early upgrade?
Because I want the new iPhone!

It means you will sign a new 2 year contract and will pay a discounted rate but not the full subsidized price.

Subsidized Price: 199/299
Early Upgrade: 399/499
People who are going to pay a **** load of money: 599/699

Which is what I will be doing this summer.

Let's add this to the FAQ.

From the Wall Street Journal:

The new plans will lower the cost of an entry-level voice and data plan for smartphones by $15, to $54.99. Existing users will have the option of sticking with their current plans indefinitely, even if they switch phones, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said.

Kind of a weirdnquestion but I hope someone can help n

My current iPhone is supplied by the business I work for. I'm thinking ofnjust goingnin and payingnfullmprice since I've only had this for a few months. Will I be able to do that atnthe store without notifying the company. The upgrade will be on my dime thanks.

Let's say the phone releases 6/18/10. I wait in-line for it. My upgrade is fine, and all is well. I assume the upgrade process will go as any other upgrade in-store?

I have a question: How do you typically go about preordering these things when they announce them? In other words, when they announce the new iphone on monday, where do you go next? ATT's website? Apple's website? Who usually has their preorder page up first? Which one is better to preorder from in your opinion to guarantee that you get a new iPhone on launch day?

I've got the money ready. I'm just waiting for someone to tell me where to sign. I'd like to get it as soon as possible....

Thanks!

Does the company pay for your bill or device? You should just notify the company because you are not hurting them in any way if you plan on just paying it no-commit and full price. Then, as a courtesy, offer to return the iPhone you have back to them?

Correct. The only thing is that you are required to have a data plan on the account.

Usually, Apple has the preorder page first. Then, AT&T releases a press release and, usually, a video detailing the buying process about preorders. If you want to guarantee a phone, go AT&T. Their preorder is true preordering. Based on the amount of preorders they get, they ship those number of phones to your local store so you could pick it up. Apple's system is that you preorder and you are guaranteed the device only for that day. After the day passes, your phone is up for grabs.

In my experience, even if you do preorder at Apple and wait in line, you would still be able to get a phone because their stock numbers are considerably higher than AT&T.
