flash that can stay on to act as flashlight (it could be useful?)

Could be? It is useful!

My sony-ericsson does it, and it I've found use for this feature oh so many times. One of the biggest flaws in iPhone is the lack of flashlight.

And be it a big screen with big lights, it's not nearly the same.

I beg to differ. When could you use video chat? Whilst walking? Holding your phone out ahead of you? No way. Plus, everyone would hear your conversation.

And no chick would start a video conversion without prettying themselves up and fixing their hair. They'd say "screw it" and stick to audio.

And then there's the guys who chat with their girlfriend and try to sound interested when in fact they are not. With video, they'd be screwed.

At home? Go to your computer. The screen's larger, higher frame rate and it's free.

I'm hard pressed trying to find a popular scenario that needs video chat (where a phone call wouldn't suffice). Steve Jobs wouldn't include it to cater to that minority.

Sorry, I just had to get that out.

Once you have a child you'll understand why some of us would love it. When I'm away on business or just not at home, it would be nice to see my 2 year old daughter and her see me whilst we're talking. That is why I would like it.

If you don't have a need for it great. Some of us do, and is why I don't understand the need for anti-front facing camera drivel on EVERY post that might mention it.

The iPhone is still just a PHONE, of course a 5mp camera would be nicer but do you really need it? Seriously if your planning on taking photos of other than your friends ect then buy a proper camera! Video I would like to see, Flash would be a bonus but makes the phone ugly.

I don't see the need for video calling, I hate it! Where is the need to have your face in a phone convocation, its just an highly priced unnecessary feature that I frankly would NOT like to see in the next iPhone. MMS is crap.

Sorry. My post was poorly worded to imply that uses other than the ones I tried to picture were unimportant. That's a valid scenario. The "why not use a laptop" card is still on the table, but your point still stands.

Well the iPhone is a convergence device. This is Apple. The only reason there isn't a 5MP camera is it would affect aesthetics. And Apple always sacrifice functionality for aesthetics.

just seen posts about the next iphone , and the iphone 3G isnt even released yet, cant we just enjoy this model cos i doubt there will be another one released next year maybe a possible memory upgrade next year in autumn.

This is because people aren't happy with what little hardware upgrade occurred with the 3G. They were hoping and expecting a lot more, so it is only natural that they pin their hopes on the next iPhone after 3G.

i understand what your saying just its another 11days till iphone 3G is out and yet they are still going on about the 3rd iphone. i think apple are not giving the consumer everything they want ie( better camera, +front camera) to begin with in iphone v1 and v2 so they can keep getting us to upgrade, lol

As long as there is an iPhone (or any cool devices for that matter) there will be speculation on the next one. Harder, better, faster, stronger.

The Future of the Iphone 5.0???

Jump into the future 10 years from now and describe what the iphone 5.0 will look like and what features will it have???

How about you worry about what is coming out in half a month?

Steve himself said that he would not have believed the iPod would exist five years before inception. You cannot predict what the iPhone will become.

Having said that, lasers. Lasers and titanium oxide.

I really wouldn't worry about what kind of phones will be on the market 10 years from now, i'm looking forward to the present and July 11th with the release of the iphone 3G.

Might sound crazy, but here is mine...

1. Super Fast Internet
2. Flawless voice texting/email & video confer.
3. Ability to use as your wallet (Drivers license, credit card social securtiy) all
stored in the iphone.
4. Remote start car, aircondition at home, appliances...etc
5. Will only operate with owners finger print
6. Live Cable TV with DVR/Tivo

The THIRD iPhone

I doubt it will be a 4G phone as no carriers have really started the transition to any of these technologies, but:

-When?
-Where? (What Network - AT&T exclusivity runs out in 2009, right?)
-Size?

predictions??

considering the amount of time it took for the US to get to 3G (and not even every carrier has it yet) don't look for any new tech anytime soon, any new iPhones will use existing infrastructure, and will just be feature set upgrades, and probably an OS revision coming soon.

Here we go again. Just wait till the 11th before starting a iPhone 3.0 thread. ;)

Or maybe better yet, when the hype of the iPhone 3G dies down. Maybe next WWDC?! Why are people always doing this. Just wait till the iPhone 3G comes out.

Knowing Apple the 3rd generation iPhone new features will be a upgraded camera from 2 mp to 3.2 mp and it will be $200 more expensive in the long run!

I give dibs to both you and mattrobs. If you want a better camera, go buy a frickin' camera. I'm waiting for the first "iPhone w/SLR?" post. There are maybe 5 phones out there with a better camera (at least the megapixel rating). It's for having a portable camera, not shooting the SI Swimsuit Issue.

As far as video chat, everything matt said is pretty much what I think. Almost NOBODY will want to do video chat most of the time. Someone will play the "what about a soldier and his family at home?" card. I will then play the MacBook card. Video chat *could* be done, but there are a bazillion other things that would be more useful and therefore make Apple mo' money. People who clamor for MMS, I don't really care about it but way more people would use that than video chat capability. I want the camera to do video, but we don't need 17 different cameras on this thing.

Speak for yourself, dude!

At this point, it looks like the only places to upgrade are:

- Camera
- Size
- Battery Life
- Screen brightness/response
- Storage Capacity
- RAM
- WiMax?

My guess is that it'll be a thinner model, with better battery life, a slightly better camera, and more RAM (256MB, for more complex web layouts, more tabs in safari, more complex games). Possibly with a brighter, more responsive screen. No front-facing camera, because mobile video chat sucks as a concept, and no WiMax, because it's of no interest to most of the world. Storage will stay at 8Gb/16Gb, to keep costs down and stop cannibalisation of iPod sales.
