I agree. Apple is not really serving its customers here. They merely take off the glass with the black border without regard to the aesthetics of the matte models. Either give matte models a silver keyboard or keep the black keyboard and add a black bezel. Right now, the matte model is the bastard child of the line which only serves to make Apple more money.

A black border without the shiny glass over it would look so cheap/plasticy/and tacky.

And can you imagine how horrible the new keyboard would look with silver keys? ugh.

Seriously. the matte looks great.

It would look like the aluminum Powerbook. One of Apple's best designed laptops ever.

they didnt have this keyboard. they had the same keyboard as the pre unibody macbook pros correct? these new keys are flat and spaced out and would look hideous if they were silver.

How will the color make a difference, they will function the same but blend in better.

The actual keys themselves would just look silly being silver. The keys look nice with the black rubber around the screen and the black macbook pro logo font.

Just my opinion. Black looks nice against silver. Have you seen one in person yet?

My sister has the aluminum Powerbook G4 and I just love it. The keyboard is a dream and I like the silver design of the keyboard . I too think that was the best laptop ever made but it's a bit slow now as my sister just bought it as it and never upgraded it.

I agree. It looks like a big MacBook Air. Were there so many complaints about the keys not matching the bezel when the Air first came out?

The AG is a beautiful looking laptop no question.. I just prefer not to have bare LCD to clean and gunk building up in the corners where the panel meets the metal border.

i agree. i think the anti-glare is one nice looking computer. i have no preference between the glossy and anti-glare but i went with glossy because 1) easier clean-up and 2) i don't plan on using my laptop outside. never have, most likely never will. so i don't NEED an anti-glare.

with the $50 bucks i saved i bought an incase sleeve. :)

Me either, but this is really more of a personal preference. From a functional point of view though, as someone who does a lot of photography and video editing, I much prefer the matte screen and the non-reflective silver frame. When I'm editing a photo, I need to see the colors correctly, the last thing I need is the screen and the frame reflecting every light source in the background and distracting me.
I've checked out both screens in store, unfortunately the screens are still not that bright in day light. I wish they were a little brighter.

Never been a fan of the black border. Looks too clunky. The silver bezel just makes the laptop look like a Mac.

I'll not even mention reflections and what is easier on the eyes.. :p

The only difference between the two is the extra layer of reflective glass on the glossy, which makes colors richer, deeper and more full, but has a slight disadvantage of producing glares when in direct light. The antiglare is just the same screen, but without the glass-layer.

As text normally is in black, there would hardly be any difference between how it appears on the two types of screens - at least if you're not standing in a direct light source with your glossy display.

Yeah, at the time. There's a thing called progress. You don't change the design of a product to chage it back a few years afterwards. That's retro and while a small part of the consumers may like it, the majority wants something new.

Just my opinion.

I'm sorry, but that is just an outright lie. AG has its pros, but color quality is not one of them.
What you're telling is BS because you fail to understand colours and coatings. It's wrong for three reasons:
- Calibrating colours on glossy screens is one of the most impossible things to do. Calibrating them on matte screens is very easy to do. Colour calibrated screens display colours properly. In the end matte screens are better at displaying colours properly due to the fact you can calibrate them without any problems.
- Glossy or matte has got nothing to do with the panel, it's just the coating or the piece of glass in front of the panel. If the panel is using TN the colours are crap anyway. It doesn't matter if you use glossy, matte or calibrated the screen, the colours still are crap. Glossy only creates the illusion of good colours.
- The software also contributes an awful lot to the way colours are being displayed. If you want to display colours properly you shouldn't be using Snow Leopard right now due to the many problems regarding colour profiles and such. Apple is still working on it but until than don't use SL because colours are off. Glossy or matte does not affect the way software works.

It's mainly the second and third reason that makes your argument complete BS. So yes, the person you're replying can have the same colours on glossy and matte screens. There are too many variables that determine the colours you're seeing. Therefore it's not a very wise thing to be calling someone a liar.

The antiglare is just the same screen, but without the glass-layer.
.

Nope, when you pull off the glass sheet off of the Glossy models, underneath is a glossy screen. They are two different screens.

I personally would say Matte is better to read on, but I prefer glossy for everything else.

There is no one size fits all. We all have our own opinions about whether we prefer glossy or matte. No answer is right or wrong it just depends on what each individual is looking for.

I personally like anti glare but I know lots of people who prefer the glossy screen.

Anymore feedback about reading text on the anti glare versus glossy display?

If in fact AG is easier to read text on it could be the decision maker for those who use their machine for more work than entertainment.

You are right. But comments like "I prefer glossy/matte" or "glossy/matte is the way to go" are totally unuseful!!!!

We need motivations!!! So everyone should explain exactly why he prefers this or that one! And it can't just be a matter of "shining" or not!!!

I think the text issue is going to be the same as any other anti-glare vs glossy question. It all depends on the environment you are in. If there is a lot of reflection on the screen then of course the glossy screen will be difficult to read. If the place you are in produces no reflections then they will be very comparable.

It's also a very personal preference. I definitely prefer the anti-glare over a glossy screen because I find the anti-glare to be easier to look at for an extended period of time.

In my opinion, matte would be easier. In fact, if you look at the e-ink displays part of what makes them so easy on the eyes is that they have almost no reflective qualities and take out the oversaturated brightness. Matte does this but to a far lesser degree. Still effective, again in my opinion.
