I currently have an HTC Touch Pro on the old $30.00 Sprint SERO 500 plan with unlimited Internet and text messages. I have wanted an iPhone for years, but this plan keeps me with Sprint. I can't wait for the Evo. I wish Sprint would get an iPhone in the future.

They probably wont charge for 4G but will charge for the tethering. I heard anywhere from 10-20. If 4G gets to my location, I will be willing to pay for it. Might cancel the home internet for it.

From the looks of everything by that May event most likely it'll be released earlier than the iPhone. Not too many 4G towers but I know I got 4G all over here in Tacoma and past and before it too. Also with sprints EVO some forget that it just doesn't run off of the 4G network. It also switches to 3G where there is no 4G.

I do like the iPhone, and think it is one of the best phones out their.

I like how everything works, as simple as it sounds, their is no lag, bugs, and it just flows and works like it should. Hardware and software together.

The App store is continuing to grow and the games on it are unmatched.

But because I am on a family plan and on Sprint, I have the HTC Hero.

I am rooted, and running a custom 2.1 rom, this thing is smooth as can be, their is no lag/buggyness at all. This isn't even the final release and the phone works smoothly.

I always prefered the iphone.

But I will definetly be getting the EVO, I used the HD2 and the overall size of the phone is not much bigger than the iPhone, but the screen is like a tablet, its huge.
8 megapixel camera, 720P video, hdmi output, 4G, wireless hotspot for 8 devices, screen size, snapdragon+htc sense=winner.

Plus their are 50,000 apps in the market now, and their are supposed to be 100,000 by september.

Android is not webos or blackberry, it will trump the iPhone.

The functionality on android is getting better and better.

I can use shazam to tag a song, download the full mp3 from my phone with an app, or use zedge to download notifications, and ringers, and use a ringtone trimmer to select the part I want and then assign it to a ringtone, email it to someone, etc.

It sounds stupid but the open source is really cool.
You can download youtube videos directly from the phone.
All these features with the monster evo is going to be cool..

But if you are a loyal iPhone fan I understand that and think the next one is gonna be cool as hell.

Wow! I did not know you can do all of that. Can you download youtube videos without an outside app? I prefer not to root my phone if I can help it as well.

This is just my guess... The way they've been promoting the hotspot feature is too big for it to be an added cost. Especially when Verizon is doing it for free with their versions of the Pre and Pixi.

It also would be a bit crazy to charge extra for 4G when there are only a handful of cities that can use it. Because of this I think it will go down in 1 of 3 ways...

You are given the option to use your phone (wifi hotspot feature included) on the regular 3G network that Sprint has at the same cost as any other device. If you want to upgrade to 4G, you will have that option as an aditional cost on your bill.

Otherwise, there will be no option to opt out of 4G. The extra cost will help offset the network upgrades for the tethering.

Finally... Wifi hotspot feature will be a feature only when connected to the 4G network.

no you dont even have to be rooted to get all of these Apps. the YouTube app is free , and lets you download the video in high quality or the mp3. android is getting really cool. the Widgets available and customization on HTC sense is a lot better than the iPhones ui

and sprint will not charge for 4g, however they will charge an extra $10 or $20 for tethering.

sprint has unlimited data mobile to mobile calling, texting, navigation and 450 mintutes for $69.99. plus you will get 4g with that if available.

Sprint will most likely NOT charge for 4G access but using it as a mobile hotspot will definitely be an added cost. Maybe $10 to $20 a month. Also, one of the features of 4G is that unlike 3G from all other carriers including Sprint's own, there is NO 5GB cap. Since the bandwidth of WiMax is so big, you can truly have unlimited data with no caveat.

I have a friend that works for Sprint at their headquarters in KS, she is friends with some people in the marketing department. She told me that Sprint plans to not charge anything extra for a 4G enabled device, which makes sense because Sprint's CEO said that 4G is actually cheaper to provide than 3G. So if you don't want tethering, the current Sprint plans will be the same for the Evo. I asked about tethering on the EVO and she said the rumor around the area is that it'll be a $19.99 addition.

She told me that tethering data on 3G will be limited to 5Gigs per month, but tethering data on 4G is true unlimited. If you live in a 3G area the extra $19.99 is not a bad deal, but if you are lucky enough to live in a 4G area that's a smoking hot deal I think.

Don't forget OP you can save $10 a month by ordering through the referral channel:

http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/nxt/epc/epclanding.asp Use the email address "russ.s.mcguire@sprint.com" and the 3 digits of CID is 383.

I can get a 25% discount based on where I work so it's cheaper for me to get the normal plan with the discount than to get the referral plan.

If Verizon doesn't charge Pre users to go into hotspot mode, I don't think Sprint should... But we'll see.

I'd be going back to my parents family plan if I go with this phone (and brining with me a 25% discount for my parents. :) ) so I'm really interested to see how the 4G/Hotspot changes will effect plans.

Every time I look at this phone I get more and more unhappy with my iPhone 3G. At the moment, I don't even care about the next iPhone, haha.

No, they have said the tethering will work for 4g and 3G. I don't think I would sign on for 20 bucks each phone a month. In my case I would have two phones I would need to set up for tethering and that would be 40 bucks extra per month. Either all or none. : - /

I really hope that somehow someway, they ship the phones with Froyo which is supposed to be really really nice. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=2010

I wasn't saying all of those scenarios would happen... I just went through all the potential options I could think of.

[Merged] HTC Evo 4G / Supersonic / Sprint Evo

The specs look good up front, but I'm sure actually using the phone isn't as smooth as my 3GS. The Evo is ugly, and it runs Android. It doesn't compare.

Another glimmering example of opinion stated as fact.

This forum is on fire tonight.

Seeing as how no one has actually used the EVO yet, how do you expect anyone to answer your question with anything other than pure speculation and conjecture?

Well let me rephrase this question:
Why is there so much hype about the EVO?

- 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- Android 2.1, currently the "best" version of Android
- HDMI out - can connect to a TV to watch video
- 4G speed
- The phone itself is a mobile hotspot
- 4.3 inch screen
- 8 megapixel camera and a front-facing camera

It's basically the motherlode as far as hardware specs go. Of course, those are just numbers and no one will know if the final package will live up to those gaudy numbers.

Agreed, while it looks great, time will tell if the finished product is worth it.
