You have two threads on the front page, both of which are obvious flame bait. I regret that I took the bait in your other thread. I won't make the same mistake here.

DNFTT.

- 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- Android 2.1, currently the "best" version of Android
- HDMI out - can connect to a TV to watch video
- 4G speed
- The phone itself is a mobile hotspot
- 4.3 inch screen
- 8 megapixel camera and a front-facing camera

It's basically the motherlode as far as hardware specs go. Of course, those are just numbers and no one will know if the final package will live up to those gaudy numbers.

Adobe Flash
FM tuner
Voice to text texting
Facebook Twitter integration

Proof is always in the pudding

iPhone 4/EVO face off should be good

I can't wait for June!

Well let me rephrase this question:
Why is there so much hype about the EVO?

We're not ignorant.
Android is equally as valid as iPhoneOS.
It has impressive specs.
We have free will and many people are likely to get excited about things they are interested in.
Some people are entering the smartphone market and don't find that iPhone suits their needs.
Some people are iPhone users and are unhappy about it.

Take your pick of the above options to form an answer to your question.

What everyone else has said and also HD vid recording. If you have a kid and you take vids alot, it's nice to upload HD vids to youtube for family or hook up to a tv in HD.

You're hilarious.

HTC Sense + Android WIPE THE FLOOR with the iPhone OS.

- TRUE multitasking. And Android is smart enough to "suspend" applications so they're not just fully running in the background sucking up your battery.

- Widgets on your home screen. There are hundreds of these available.

- Social networking integration with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr.

- More freedom. If you want Flash on your Android phone - you've got it. If you don't want it - you can turn it off or uninstall it. If you want to install an app that Google doesn't allow in the Android Market, you can install it using a direct link.

- Android is seeing more updates than the iPhone and progressing much more rapidly. Android is newer than the iPhone OS, yet it has more features?

- HTC/Google don't dictate what you can and can't do like Apple. They don't stop you from listening to an FM Radio just because it will cause them to lose money on music sales. They don't stop you from playing flash games just because it will cause them to lose money on game sales.

- HTC Evo specific: better camera, removable battery, gorgeous OLED screen, WiMax support, WiMax hotspot, snapdragon processor (trust me - these things fly), MicroSD card support, so if 32GB isn't enough for you, you can just buy more cards.

The ONLY thing that iPhone is better than Android at, at the moment, is the apps side of things. There's about 6-7 times more apps available for the iPhone - but Android is rapidly getting more and more every day.

Up until recently iPhone was always the king of usability, but with HTC Sense this is no longer the case - HTC Sense is just as easy to use as the iPhone.

The HTC/Android experience is always going to be better than the Apple iPhone experience because you have the freedom to do what you want with your device without jailbreaking and voiding your warranty.

<3 my HTC Desire

The specs look good up front, but I'm sure actually using the phone isn't as smooth as my 3GS. The Evo is ugly, and it runs Android. It doesn't compare.

So you started a thread about how people shouldn't jailbreak because it's illegal, and then created another one bashing Android without actually using the phone itself?

So you have used an Evo to make the comparison?

Not as smooth? Buddy, My Nexus One is a hella lot more faster then my 3GS. The Evo has the same specs as the Nexus One but with a little more RAM so guess what, it will also be faster then the 3GS.

Guys I love apple as much as anyone, but phones like the coming Evo do nothing but help us, the consumer.

As far as the Evo. It is the real deal. I stopped by Verizon yesterday to play with the Evo's little brother, the Incredible. The 2.1 software is as fast as any out there including my beloved iPhone. Now add the fact that the Evo is the superior to the Incredible, hardware wise and finally there is finally a phone to push apple.

I can't wait to use the Evo to tether my iPad at 4G speeds. No matter which phone you choose. This is a great year for cell phones and the consumer.

The evo isn't the first phone from HTC to beat the iPhone in terms of features and hardware.

HTC Evo > HTC Incredible > HTC Desire > iPhone 3GS > HTC Hero > iPhone 3G > iPhone 2G

I gotta agree with the OP, why is it being compared to the iPhone? This should be insulting to HTC!! The new iPhone clearly won't stand up to it! Can't wait for my Evo :D

yeah, why is ANY phone being compared to the iphone? every single person in this country, nay, the world, should be using the iphone because it suits every single of our needs. All the other cell manufacturers should close shop and steve jobs should be appointed president of the world. anyone that doesn't like apple products should be banned from this forum. long live apple!

there goes 10 seconds I'm never getting back.

yea man your dumb for posting this. your one of those kids who would buy anything apple makes just because it has an apple logo on it.

dont get me wrong i have a mac and love it, and i love the iphone. but the evo is a sweet phone, and if it works smoothly like all the reviews on youtube are saying it does (and its still not even finished), then the evo is going to be great.

and whats so bad about android. sure the iphone os runs great and is simple but its more of a closed program. andriod gives you way more options and flexibility, even more than a jailbroken iphone.

and like i said i still love the iphone, but theres no reason to be so thickheaded and act like every other phone sucks...

edit: plus what everyone else has said already....

AND not to mention sprint is a way better deal than att. i can get unl mobile to mobile, unl text, unl data all for 69.99.

for me to get that with att it would cost over 110 bucks a month

I'm actually open-minded, thank you very much. Just because it has great specs, doesn't mean it's automatically better! Android pisses me off because it's not as universal as iPhone OS in terms of apps for it. The OS doesn't get updated the day a new release comes out, and sometimes never does... Not to mention it doesn't have multitouch.

Too bad it's on a **** network.

Look at my sweet phone. It does all this crap I will never use and guess what!?!?!? I can barely make a call! Neato.

Sprint's a pretty nice network, actually. I would have no reservations in switching to it from AT&T, that's for damn sure. Their roaming agreements with Verizon work out really well, and they're cheaper.

I have sprint and it looks like i am going to be purchasing an EVO in june!!

I would go with iphone but gotta stick with sprint.

Agreed.

I don't exactly know what "universal" means to you. Like number of apps? Well, recently the number of android-running phones has surpassed the number of iPhone OS-running phones. So, if you were a programmer and you wanted to reach the highest number of people's phones, who would you now program for?

Not to mention it doesn't have multitouch.

Yes it does:

Are you talking about your iPhone? Seriously, I can't really tell.

Anyways, I had Sprint before switching to the iPhone 2 years ago and I can say with confidence that Sprint runs circles around AT&T's network. And this was before WiMax was even rolled-out. And before anyone tries to defend AT&T, AT&T themselves publicly admit that their network is not up to par in handling network traffic. This is not my word, this is theirs.

And they want to blame it on the iPhone traffic, but an independent study has shown this not to be the case:

The one thing i love about the iphone is its ease of use with itunes.

what program does htc use to sync music etc??

i can tell you right now that the evo will be like all other android phones, fast and usable, but clumsy and unpolished. Many geeks don't care about presentation so they will definitely love the evo but if you're the type of person who prefers a nice consistent and smooth UI, you're going to want to stick with the iphone. It's the same reason we use OSX instead of Unix. They both share the same abilities in many ways, but OSX is infinitely more polished and user friendly. Leave android to the linux geeks.

there isn't a music syncing program for any android phone. You either have to drag and drop or come up with your own syncing solution. Yet another sign that Android has ways to go before it can really dent the iPhone.
