I'd have to disagree that JB packages are not well done or that they conflict. Some wont be as good as others obviously. Gotta research a little before you go and install everything on cydia or Rock.
Im never going back to a stock iphone. The added functionality cannot be beaten.
And going to a whole different provider, different OS, no itunes integration, no appstore and many many other added features just cause one doesnt want to do a 2 minute software modification to their iphone is beyond me...

Wait are you agreeing with me or not? Your sentence confused me.

I would much prefer if Apple were able to provide these things. I think a lot of the bugs found in jailbreaking are apps constantly conflicting with each other. I think the only standard there is the mobilesubstrate protection thingy ma jig. :D

it just gives SJ something to put into the next firmware update ie MMS, categories, video and those are basic
then theres screen lock, customize, multitasking, and more

of course they will be buggy because people are coding these softwares for free, then apple gets their hands on them and fine tunes them for the next year if they need more ideas

And number of carriers. I don't know a single person with android who actually prefered it to an iPhone - they went android either because of the price or more often because "AT&T isn't good enough where I live."

This.

I haven't met anyone who loves their andriod phone. They got it because "iPhone plans are too expensive" or "my family is all with Verizon so I'm staying with them," not because they like andriod over the iPhone all things equal.

You know how Android beat the iPhone?

They have 20 devices on the market compared to the Apple's two devices, and one past device.

Thats another problem with HTC/droid phones when you buy one you dont know how long it is till a better one is coming it could be 2 weeks or a month heck look at N1 everyone thought it was the iPhone Killer but its floped and google is no longer officially selling it.

This post would probably get you the info you're looking for if you post it on a android/evo/etc forum. Of course if you're just looking to troll you're doing it right ;)

Another cool thing - iPhone's hold their value very well. They are the only mobile phone I know of where you can get what you paid for, sometimes twice or even three times. It's nice to know. Sell the old, it's money pays for the new. You are never out any money. Only even or more than.

Lies, you never get more out of a older iphone... they do hold value pretty good... but then again so does my nexus one... and my blackberry bold 9700 before it.

Just because you paid $299(contract price) for a 16gb 3gs doesnt mean when you get $450 for it you got more... you actually got $149.99 less...

I'm not sure what carrier you're referring to, but for me it was actually cheaper to get an iPhone with AT&T. I used to have verizon.

ok I really don't understand this. If I pay $299 for an iPhone and I sell it for $450 how am I not gaining money on the device itself?

Because when you get a CONTRACT with the iphone 16gb 3gs... you are bound to a 2 year agreement. If you cancel before that 2 years it will be between $175 or down to $115 to cancel. The 16gb 3GS is retail valued at $500 + TAX... Contract priced at $200 + TAX.....

$200 + $175 + tax = $375+... or $200+$115 + tax= 315+

so the question is are 16gb 3gs going for $375+ or $315+ on ebay?? that what you would need to break even...

My 149.99 lost I made in the above comment was off based..

Got it. Thanks for the explanation. Very true when you start factoring in all the additional costs(ETF + tax). I'm not quite sure what 16gb 3GS' are selling for currently on eBay.

I'm not asking for your thoughts on jailbreaking, or even if you think its wrong that you have to jailbreak to get some basic features, but I'm just wondering what makes you still pick the evo or another phone over a jailbroken iphone?

What does the evo have that a jailbroken iphone doesnt have?

Another carrier (can’t get an AT&T signal at work or more than ½ the time around town)

Non-apple-approved apps like Google Voice (and I still get to use my iPhone apps by tethering it to the EVO)

Much bigger screen and keyboard

Play HD recorded content to my HDTV

Kickstand – sometimes it’s the little things :)

Voice to text (Is there an iPhone app for that? Maybe there is.)

Free native turn-by-turn navigation

I really like the text auto-fit in the browser

FULL Bluetooth A2DP Stereo and EDR compatibility (you can actually use the built-in controls on stereo headsets)

Expandable Memory

Removable battery

Hopefully it will actually work most of the time – my 3G lags something terrible and is constantly crashing apps, both before and after being jail broken.

I don't know a single person with android who actually prefered it to an iPhone - they went android either because of the price or more often because "AT&T isn't good enough where I live."

But none of these people have the EVO, do they? Do any of them have the Incredible at least? That would at least be somewhat comparable to the subject at hand.

There are some apps that do voice to text, but I'm pretty sure the Android version is system wide. So that means you can dictate anything. Speak your SMS messages, emails, Twitter posts, searches, etc... rather than using the particular app for each one and then copying the dictated text to another app.

As for people preferring android... Over in the Nexus One thread you'll see several users who preferred the Android experience. Not everyone, but that's to be expected. People switch to Mac and switch back sometimes too. :)

Hence it's a preference.

Sorry, but I have gotten more for my older iPhone than any other device I have and have seen. Nexus one will not get anything near the iPhone. Nor will a Blackbery. You should know that.

If I pay $299 out of pocket and sell it and make $450/500 dollars, I MADE money. You can't use my mobile plan in your equation. I am ALWAYS going to have a mobile plan. That's the way things are. So I had NO out of pocket expenses, did not lose money but instead, MADE money.

Now, if I were saying I was canceling my contract and selling my phone, that would be a different story.

Like I said, you can't include my mobile plan in your equation. It does not count. :)

So in that case... what if you want to buy another iphone!? You cant get a new contract since you kept your existing one... so you have to pay retail... on a 32gb 3GS retail is $599+tax... your $450 or $500 wont cover that amount...

No if you bought a cheaper phone then... of course you came out ahead!

and BTW I bought my Nexus for $529(Jan 6th) and sold it for $425 6 months later... not bad... I also sold my Bold 9700 for on saturday $325 and I bought it retail for $400 in october.

Almost ALL high end phones have good resale... within 1 year..
