A question I haven't seen addressed is if your an iPhone user and switch to an android device, how easy is it to get all your music, movies, tv Shows etc bought through iTunes into your new phone? I know for me if couldn't easily put all that on a different phone easily it would be a big detractor and would sway my decision to stay apple.

I am definitely going to give a try to EVO 4G for 30 days.

Sprint has full money back guarantee so I am not worried.

I have already sold my 3GS and using a dumb phone right now.

This is my plan.

1. Get EVo 4G on 4th June (New line with Sprint). Keep iPhone line!
2. Use it for 30 days. If it satisfies all my Phone needs I will stick to it. If not return it and get iphone 4G.

Before moving to EVO 4G I need following info:

1. Can I connect my EVo 4g to iTunes/similar to itunes app to sync everything?
2. Can I download podcasts/movies via itunes and sync to evo 4g?

I have no problem porting my music via double twist.

I had the same fears as you before I switched, but it's really a non-issue. However, if the music is DRM protected, then you can only play it in iTunes.

So in that case... what if you want to buy another iphone!? You cant get a new contract since you kept your existing one... so you have to pay retail... on a 32gb 3GS retail is $599+tax... your $450 or $500 wont cover that amount...

No if you bought a cheaper phone then... of course you came out ahead!

and BTW I bought my Nexus for $529(Jan 6th) and sold it for $425 6 months later... not bad... I also sold my Bold 9700 for on saturday $325 and I bought it retail for $400 in october.

Almost ALL high end phones have good resale... within 1 year..

You mean you sold it 4 months later? Anyway, you can upgrade your iPhone in most cases every year at full discount and worse case scenario upgrade at a discounted price. I got my 3GS on Aug 8th for 199.99 and can get the new iPhone on Aug 8th this year for 199.99. I can sell the 3GS for at least 300, making a 100 profit.

The EVO I doubt will have a decent resale value as it is restricted to Sprint in the US.

1) Refer to my last post. Other than Double Twist, there are other similar programs to manage your music.

2) Once you switch to Android, you won't need iTunes to download podcast.
For example, you can use Beyondpod to download your favorite podcasts automatically to your phone. I set mine to download new podcasts at 2am when I'm asleep. That's the power of true multi-tasking.

Sorry, but I have gotten more for my older iPhone than any other device I have and have seen. Nexus one will not get anything near the iPhone. Nor will a Blackbery. You should know that.

If I pay $299 out of pocket and sell it and make $450/500 dollars, I MADE money. You can't use my mobile plan in your equation. I am ALWAYS going to have a mobile plan. That's the way things are. So I had NO out of pocket expenses, did not lose money but instead, MADE money.

Now, if I were saying I was canceling my contract and selling my phone, that would be a different story.

Like I said, you can't include my mobile plan in your equation. It does not count. :)

Definitely true. I feel like this is because Apple has a once-a-year release cycle with far less product options. The only thing keeping me from selling my iPhone is that if I sell it and buy an iPod Touch it won't have GPS or a camera. :D

Not a bad idea. Do you know if the 30 Day thing is good if I'm just going to be an additional line on a family plan?

I wonder if an iPhone user could do the Sprint 30-Day EVO trial and then, if he/she decided to move to Sprint keep their iPhone phone number and move that to Sprint to use on the EVO. I mean, I imagine you could dump your iPhone and move your number to Sprint and open a new Sprint account using that number. But, if you already have a number with Sprint (for the EVO trial) could you then switch numbers after Sprint already gave you a number?

I think you can. I'm not 100% sure though. If I can't do that then I will probably just go with my Google Voice number full time. Then I'll never have to port my number again. :)

Isyncr will sync your itune library to your EVO, I think its $2.99 in the android market. It will sync everything in your itunes including podcast and movies.

Just as I was leaning towards the Evo (admit it, there is a lot to like) over the iphone, I looked at Sprint's coverage for my area. They don't even have 3G here much less 4G, and I live in the state capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge. For all the whining about AT&T, they do at least have very solid 3G coverage all over the South. Apparently Sprint can only afford to put 3G in New Orleans (the armpit of the country) which doesn't help me at all.

It's been almost 6 years since Katrina and we are still overrun with N.O. people who decided to stay here. Traffic has been a nightmare since then, even after vast highway improvements citywide. You would think that Sprint would have noticed the population shift by now and adjust accordingly.

I don't see Spint's 4G service coming here in my lifetime, and no telling how many years before we get their 3G, so it looks like I'll be buying the new iphone next month. I have a sneaking suspicion Sprint's phone lines will be jammed, not by normal volume, but by people wanting a refund after 30 days.

Wonder how long before we see jailbreaking for the Evo to get away from Sprint.

Can't wait until GV let's us port our #s in. HURRY UP GOOGLE!!

I am really not sure about the family plan thing but I am not too worried about losing my # from ATT.

I always give my Google Voice # to everyone except my close friends and family.

I never pay full price for my iPhone. It's always subsidized. Nice try though :)

To what Verizon? Sprint has free roaming on Verizon anyway. Also, since the EVO is CDMA not GSM even if it's jailbroken the other carrier needs to activate the device. Verizon won't.

I agreed, why pay retail when you are still going to have to pay a carrier the same monthly fees as people who signed the contract. One or two years goes by quickly.

I'm just sayin'. With all the people jailbreaking iphones to get away from ATT, we will probably see the same thing with the Evo/Sprint setup.

I still question Sprint's ability to meet everyone's expectations. If a huge number of people go with the Evo, their service will be hindered just like with ATT when a huge crowd went with the iphone.

Exactly. You are always going to have a mobile. Why pay extra? :D

It's not possible. CDMA works different than GSM.

Not possible. Verizon won't activate an ESN not in their database already.

Edit: Let me clarify. It's possible, but Verizon won't do it.

Thats another problem with HTC/droid phones when you buy one you dont know how long it is till a better one is coming it could be 2 weeks or a month heck look at N1 everyone thought it was the iPhone Killer but its floped and google is no longer officially selling it.

That's ridiculous. It's no different for cars, DVD players, HD TV's, sliced cheese, computers, hot dogs and just about any other item in the world. Innovation and improvement is what leads to better things. Technology moves on, it's not supposed to stand still and be the same for 5 years. If things go the way you want there would be only one of everything. Cars will only be black or white, Pizza's only with cheese and only one flavor of soda.

Would you want automobiles to be identical every year except for maybe a better FM radio or 5 more horsepower ?? Boooorrriing!

No phone manufacturer EVER claimed to be an "iPhone killer," only the press (and the iPhone zealots) did that, and none ever will be, especially as long as there are all those zealot followers of Big Brother, I mean Big Steve who refuse to look beyond what they are told is the only good thing on earth. I had 3 different iPhones over the last 3 years and frankly I'm totally BORED.

What's really funny, the famous Apple Commercial of 1984 against Microsoft and the PC is exactly what Apple has become with the iPhone. Same old stuff in a slightly new package year after year with no real INNOVATION. Read the text of that commercial here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_(advertisement) . It's hard to see who they are referring to in today's world.

Variety and CHOICE is what makes life entertaining. AFAIAC they can have a different model every 4 weeks. At least I have a large variety of CHOICES. What CHOICE do you have? Yea, hmmm, Black or white, 16 or 32. Sorry maybe this year it will be black or white, 32 or 64. Wooohoo!

I'd be the first in line to get a REALLY DIFFERENT iPhone. Don't think that will happen ....

I'm really curious about this as well. I'm thinking of doing a 30 day trial for the evo, but wouldn't want to port my number until I'm sure I am keeping the evo.
