Just like Apple no longer gives you a remote control with any of their laptops anymore. I also see the blue tooth headset no longer comes with a dock either!

I tried to order one of the 3G docks off the Apple site tonight and they won't let you put it in your shopping cart. I called and they said they weren't currently in stock. They haven't received them yet.

Ordered mine this morning off the UK store. A little pissed the Universal Dock doesn't work, but, never mind.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A345 Safari/525.20)

To be fair, the iPhone bluetooth headset was lowered to $99...it's be hard for them to have two diff, headset packages, one for 2g and one for 3g.

no problem modifying original iphone dock with a dremel, took 2 minutes to shave a little plastic off and it's good for the 3G.

Was in Rogers today and the guy said they'd be getting some soon and that they would be around $15.

Unbundled...

I guess I haven't been paying attention to the docks much, as my refurb 4G iPod came with one in the box, but I noted something really maddening.

I understand why Apple no longer puts the dock in with the iPod/iPhone, that saves them a few bucks, and also helps to save some landfill space, because you know there is a percentage of users out there who will never use the thing. What really got me is that when you buy the dock, you get ONLY the dock! If you want the cable, that's $19.99 or $29.99 (if you want the one that also charges your Apple BT headset). Then the USB power adapter is ANOTHER $29.99...

So, if I wanted a dock setup for the office, that's another $ 79.97!

Anyway, nothing I can do about that, unfortunately.

Does anyone know if I'd have problems with an iPhone using the USB on my PC at work just for charging? I can't install iTunes, so I wouldn't be syncing to anything, just plugging it in for power.

Thanks,

:apple::apple:

I cut my old dock and now my iPhone 3G has a nice dock for free, and it looks alright too.

I cut my fingers pretty bad twice though while making it. Apple uses some strong plastic :p

I ordered a dock online yesterday because the local Apple store was out and I figured i would be just as quick.

Got the shipping notification this afternoon - it's shipping from Hong Kong estimated delivery day 7/31. I was a bit surprised that they don't have a more local distribution center. I guess things are moving too fast at the moment to build any stock.

I ordered mine last week, got here today  at least we did not have to pay full price for the phone and get no accessories ;)

It works fine - I do the same thing. It doesn't charge from the USB hub on my Dell LCD but it does from the USB plug on the front of the machine itself.

That's most likely because the person who installed the computer didnt run a USB cable from the tower to the screen. That has to be done in order for those extra 4 USBs to work. Kinda off topic but whatever.

The screen is USB'd to the PC. The LCD USB ports work fine for other peripherals, they just don't charge my iPhone. I figured Dell was probably limiting power to the hub on the LCD.

since i plopped all the cash on a new iphone, plus case, plus apps these past weeks, I figured I just reshape my original dock for the time being. The plastic is surprisingly strong but after a few minutes I got the hang off it. I realized it was more of shaving the sides than the back. The dock may be a little scuffed from the drill slipping across the dock, but now the iPhone charges like a charm in the upright position without having to pay money.
