What makes no sense either is that some people seem to think production just started. The white iPhone has been in production for who knows how long by now. This did not just come up when they turned on the ordering. They knew something was up.
Look at all the pictures of white iPhones from WWDC! Add that to the fact Steve said you could buy either color, with pre-orders starting June 15th. I'd like to give SJ and Apple the benefit of the doubt that at that moment it was true. So what happened between June 7th and June 14th?
Bottom line, like people are saying here, they SHOULD say something because a couple weeks is different than a couple months, and some people might get a black based on that info. Having us wait in limbo in the dark is stupid no matter how you look at it, because we're only going to be mad and frustrated.

Maybe if less parts for the white iP4 were out getting photographed prior to the launch they could have had enough to build them.
It is only annoying because people keep saying "Oh they might have some on launch" Yeah but how would we know to line up if this is the case?!

Hey I'm being patient, trust me. I'm not one of the small handful of jerks ordering black only to try and return it for a white later. I'm waiting for the white. But that doesn't mean I can't be frustrated and disappointed in my favorite gadget company, or use these forums to share in my frustration. It helps to let some of it out!

What makes people think the stores want their used, ear waxy phones and expect a 1 to 1 trade?

It is annoying not knowing. BB cancelled my white pre order last night. They BB girl said "Mac told us they're coming in August."

I placed an order with Bestbuy to get white ones. If apple carries them, it will be sold out. Due to limited quantities, apple is restricting these white iphones to first come first serve. (just a guess)
Apple will charge you 10% restocking fee for returning your black ones though.
It amazes me how many people truly believe Best Buy will get iPhones before Apple does. Good luck with that....
I don't think people are thinking this at all... no one knows yet what the story is but if it is that they will be available on launch day then those of us that reserved the white at BB would get it. Otherwise we wait or get black.
I was the first pre-order at my local BB and reserved white, already knowing of the 'unavailable' status, but thats the one I want so I took the chance. No one has called me about my order... yet.
I'm just saying that I doubt anyone actually believes that a 3rd party vendor receives a company's product before that said company. We just hope that they will be available for everyone come launch day and we will get ours... at least thats my mind set for the mean time.
With the roaring success of the black model and Apples desire not to take back a ton of black iPhones when the white one comes out, I predict we'll see the white iPhone on July 31st, Tier 2 countries will be pushed back to the end of August and Tier 3 to Halloween.
I think they should at least state when the white will be out or at least an approx time table.. not "later this summer"
I did not want a white phone, I ordered black.. but im telling you with this new ip4 release im starting to get annoyed with apple. Just get it right already! You know they didn't have to release the phone on June 24th.. could have waited another month and made sure everything was in order.. like their SERVERS!
I would hope if they don't release the white within the 30day time period...exceptions would be made to the timeline for exchanges.

I agree. . . at first (yesterday) I was pissed. but now it's not that bad I still get the update on the 21st so I guess I can wait awhile. What I don't like is. . . what will happen next year! I hope my upgrade will still be on cycle.

If they would give us a timeframe to expect the white, they could probably avoid much of that hassle in the first place. That way people could actually make a decision on if they should get black now, or wait for the white. Right now I'm just sitting here waiting to find out and that's what's maddening.
I want the white very much but if it's 2-3 months away I would have already pre-ordered the black and been done with it. Since we don't yet know, I have not pre-ordered anything.
