Apple has made a statement on the White iPhone 4. It will be unavailable for pre-order and in store pick up. That's very clear. As for why they aren't shipping and when they will show up, send Steve an email. I'm sure he'll fill you in on all the details of their non-conformances, production volumes and projected numbers, and a specific date you can expect the White iPhone to release.

What is the source of this statement?

100%
Best Buy will have them, people have actually preordered them from there
So they're obviously coming on launch day, and theres no way Apple is gonna let them be a Best Buy exclusive

Best Buy is not getting them. They didn't know and took preorders for white based on the assumption that there would be white units available on launch day.

I had reserved a 32GB black iPhone for pickup on the 24th but Im kind of conflicted about whether I want to settle for it. I 100% want the white iPhone but was worried about it being one of those things where they never release any statement and it could be months before its available so I decided to just settle on a black one (NOT planning on returning for a white). However I dont feel so sure anymore. I might just go up to the Apple store at 3AM and if they dont end up selling the white one I will let them know to go ahead and release my iPhone that I reserved so someone else can have it.

Smart thinking. Don't settle for something you know you won't 100% love. Also, good for you for not buying just to return it. I don't understand the problem with waiting. It is in everyones right to buy a black one and return for the white in 30 days, but it's selfish. And again, it's just a phone. I'm sure no one would die from not getting it on launch day.

They will have it. It makes absolute NO sense that they would announce that the iPhone was out June 24th and available in two colors but only make one color available. Makes no sense at all, unless something happened with manufacturing/shipping - which then a statement would be easily addressed.

On the flip side, it makes sense that the white version is less stocked - hence not putting it up for pre order means the inventory for white is low so it's a first in line, first served basis for the white iPhone.

It's not rocket science.

This.

As I put in my thread thats floating around, I spoke to an Apple Customer Relations rep and he stated that in fact I will be able to purchase a white iPhone on June 24h in store. I confirmed what he was saying about 3 times so unless I hear otherwise from Apple this is what Im sticking to. I will get there at 3am.

This is my hope...

I reserved a 32GB Black iPhone 4 for pickup on launch day. I PLAN on getting in line around 4-5AM on that day. My hope is that PERHAPS the white phones will be available in the stores on launch day, but just aren't available for pre-order. When I got my 16GB 3G, the white was only available in 16GB, the highest capacity at the time.

So, when I am in the pick-up line for people who reserved, when it comes time to get the phone, they might have white ones.....

Time will tell.

not sure i want a white one, want to compare them in the apple store.

I want to see if the white thing on the top is gay or not.

And onething, im not sure how this works or not but will the apple stores have stock as well, even though they are "out of stock" from pre orders?

Apple's silence regarding the last minute withdrawal of white iP4s ...

... is becoming ridiculous.

Is the reason so disconcerting that Apple thinks it will hurt sales?

Might whatever production issue that doomed the white iP4s also affect the black ones?

I'm surprised there's not a bigger stir about this in the media.

Has anyone heard anything on why the white was pulled?

Apple is generally silent about everything. If you want a white iPhone then just wait to get the white iPhone. Apple does amazing things, but **** happens. Relax.

I think you might be overthinking it. Could have just been a last minute thought to do a white iPhone.

Yeah, but why can't they just say "July 22nd" or something.

Whatever it is...just say something. There's a big difference between waiting 2 weeks and waiting 2 months. It would be nice to let people know so they can decide to either wait or just give up and buy the black one. Right now it's really hard to guess what you should do.

Bought the black -> How to get a white?

I ordered the Black iphone to be delivered on June 24th, and I am wondering what I can do to get a white phone instead? Can I return this after 30 days and change to a white phone? Or can I buy a white one opening day and return the black one somehow? How would that work with subsidized pricing on the white phone??? I am sure there are quiet a few people in my same shoes, so what are you planning to do?

Pushed Delivery Dates & White iPhone 4

Now that we are seeing the availability dates being pushed back to July 14, what does that say for the potential release of the white iPhone 4. Do you guys think this will impact when the white one will be released?

I know the only difference in the two is the casing, so Apple won't be able to produce black iP4s by July 14, then perhaps the white iPhone 4 won't be available to at least the 14th?

The white one won't be for sale until the end of the summer.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a small number available in-store on the 24th. That's why there's no date. They'll be available, just not for pre-order. Since they are smaller in numbers, they wanted to have them in-store only.

Seems likely to me. Otherwise, it seems like they'd post a date on the store. They're not adverse to putting things like "Ships in July" in their availability field.

I'm also concerned that the tech/rumor sites with all their inside sources haven't leaked any word of what's circulating internally on the white iPhone either. It seems like no one outside of the C-suite has a clue what is going on.

Apple doesn't answer to YOU. You answer to THEM.

Actually, I think the white iPhone is pretty much part of Apple's secret Dharma project to see just how much they can screw around with their fan base. Somewhere in an executive washroom in Cupertino, the AT&T CEO just paid Steve a dollar to pay off the bet.

I agree that's a strong possibility. Apple should say something though. Say there will be a few at launch. Say it'll be 1-2 weeks. Say it'll be August at the earliest!

Plain and simple, if the white iPhone will be out ~July then I can wait. If we're just strung along until September....I'll be pissed! It'll be 2-3 months I could have had a black iP4, but instead waited for Apple to get their act together.....all because they didn't have the balls to come out and give us a window.
