Yeah but I sold my iPhone 3gs in anticipation for the white iPhone that was suppose to be released yesterday and now I dont have a phone at all. I know I was going to wait one way or another but I thought just until the 24th.

That's why I hold onto my phone until I get the new one, something I learned from the iPhone 3G announcement. It does not lose that much value before/after the release of the new model. [E]bayers tend to be surprisingly... uninformed.

I will agree that its VERY odd they did not at least give an ETA on when they would be in stock.

really if you think about it here is why it is not coming....Six Sigma (google it)

Think about when Ford did it back in the early 1900's they were trying to deliver different color cars, and figured out that they could deliver 4X's as many cars in the same amount of time if all they produced was Black cars.

So I am sure that apple has one main manufacturing plant that is pumping out all these phones, and it would hender the rate of production to provide more than one color on launch.

So think about it like this they sold 600,000 black iphones in one day. So lets just say they did black and white on lauch day. We will, just for instructional purposes say that the limitations of having 2 colors would be 250,000black and 250,000 white due to down time changing the assembly lines to different set ups. So they would have sold 500,000 instead of 600,000.

that is my educated guess, but i could be wrong.

that sucks but that was your choice, just get a dummy phone for now. personally I am happy for several reasons.

1, I can wait I wait I signed a 2 year agreement that was supposed to be June 2011. my upgrade was going to be nov. so as long as it's before then why complain.
2. White will be rarer because all the people that have to have it now.
3. 3GS prices have crashed at least around me. I will be able to upgrade to 4.0 Jailbreak and Unlock and should be able to get more money.
4. I still have my 3GS ;)

Rarer? Just sayin'.....

They could however release the white model for preorder before anyone receives their black one. This would allow people to cancel their orders or send back their black ones before opening them, preventing all the used phones from being returned.

I guess it's possible but wow, can you see the mess this would be online? They'd have to have a way for you to switch out your black for a white one. If you went the route of canceling you would want to make sure you got a white one first and would they allow you to pre-order one if you've already ordered a black one? (I'm not sure if they tie your phone number to your order.) I guess it could be done but seems like it would cause more confusion add more stress to their already maxed systems.

Here's why I'm PO'd with Apple:

To all those saying "chill, you're going to wait anyways." .....that's not true. If Apple came out and said it'd be 2 months until the White iPhone came out, I'd go buy a black iPhone right now. If Apple came out and said it'd only be a few weeks...I'd wait it out.

There is NO reason why Apple can't make a statement regarding the White iPhone. If they don't know how long it will take, then they know it won't be fixed by launch and they know an absolute minimum time frame for it to be ready (i.e. no earlier than 2 months away). Which means, Apple should tell us something one way or another.

Telling us nothing is doing us no good, and them no good. So, just come clean and tell us what the problem is and how long it will take to fix!

Haha I'm starting to notice a trend in quite a few threads- People telling someone else to "CHILL" or "RELAX BRO!". Looks like the wolves are starting to nip at one another over their iPhone frustrations..

Okay for the record, EVERYONE JUST RELAX. CHILL OUT ABOUT THE WHITE MODEL and settle down about your confirmation email/ status or lack thereof.. There will be more iPhones, even if you don't happen to get one on the 24th. There will (eventually- who knows when for sure) be white models and there will be bumper cases.. I'm just waiting for the $4 taiwanese Amazon.com knockoffs though. I'm not feeling paying $30 for a strip of colored silicone. Call me crazy but I'll drop that on one of the lighter weight Otterboxes before I do that. Who knows- if AT&T continues their "buy 3 accessories, get 40% off" deal I might be tempted to pay $18 for one. Wow. Am I a sucker or what?

Maybe early market research revealed that there were less eunuchs in the world than Apple thought so they delayed the white one? :)

I kid... I kid! :)

Would it be possible to exchange my black iPhone 4 for a white iPhone 4 (when it is released) as long as I don't open it?

Or any other options or suggestions to obtaining a white iPhone 4? I really wanted the white one but settled for a black Pre-Order instead... :(

just curious. Do you intend to leave your black one unopened until they white ones come in? Or are you hoping they really will have white ones on launch day and you want to wait through all the lines and hope they still have one when they get to you so you can exchange it? Are you going to camp out and be first in line just in case they have white ones and will do the exchange?

iPhone 4 white

I got a question how hard can it be to make the white iPhone. Same hardware specs etc as the black one. But the difference is that they put a white paper under the glass or whatever it is instead of the black. So it cant be the manufacturing delay... whats your thoughts

Gotta say it is a little weird not to hear something from Apple on this subject.

Here is a crazy one ... anyone remember when the G1 launched with Tmobile and it was ONLY available in white at launch ... fingers crossed!

I doubt Apple has only 1 plant with only 1 manufacturing line. If that we true we'd be lucky to reach 1 million iPhone in a year.

1 plant....maybe. But I guarantee it has multiple manufacturing lines. Why not use half the lines for black, and half for white?

That is probably precisely why they are waiting.

They already can't keep up with orders from people who want the black model. Why create more of a bum-rush that they can't serve?

very true and was just using that set up purely for example purposes. Still if you have the whole plant making one color, which is the original color, you know that you can produce more and still sell out (which they did in one day).

There is a threadsomewhere that shows the white ones with cracks you can see from the side. I bet Steve had all the white ones inspected, and the reason black still shipped is because you can not see the cracks just like with the 3g

What's there to crack? It's glass and aluminum.

Yeah, they should be responsible because you have no patience?

My wife is waiting for the White iPhone 4, so she won't be getting the phone yet. I want black, so I reserved one at the Apple store. Done.

As did I. I initially wanted white, then a few days before yesterday I started debating whether the front would get too dirty (I have a white 3G now) and thought I might want black, then I kept pondering and pondering and decided **** it I'll get white, then of course white wasn't available so I again said **** it I'll just get black. Now all this white not being available is kind of making me want white, but at the same time I realize I'm getting the same product in black instead so whatever it's just a color. Black will be fine.

Haha this is one fascinating glimpse into your stream of consciousness.. Scary part is, it nearly perfectly describes my situation, my thought process so far, and my resolution. If for some reason I can all of a sudden get a white one, I won't lie- I'll probably go for it. But if not, it's really not that big of a deal. In the long run it is literally nothing important and of no consequence at all so I'm not about to get upset and stressed out over it. Glad to see there's some other people leaning back and laughing over the hysteria this phone has caused in the last few months leading up to the WWDC and yesterday. From a business student who works for a Campus Apple Store's perspective, the whole scene is mind blowing- almost awe inspiring. Ridiculous. Totally ridiculous. Say whatever you will about Apple as a brand, ethically, whatever- they design/ produce some incredibly sexy and highly desired devices that IMHO (and I'm sure most here agree) have the best UI and integration between devices available. Anyway, sorry to ramble but suffice it to say next weekend will be anything but boring, provided AT&T can have their supply chain logistics in place and flowing well.. Guess we'll all find out on the 24th.
