Alas, this is my dilemma, too. A few dithery OCD points to consider:

1) I am a small bit concerned that the screen will look gray and less intense than a black one. To have a black front and a white back is really the ultimate route.

2) When you look at the screen on the Apple site it looks great, very bright and lively. But when you look at photos of it, it looks grayer and less attractive Of course, that might be the way that different media look on a computer, and real life is always different. And Apple is going to make it look as good as possible on their site, right.

3) And, if you own a white one and you don't have it next to a black one, the lack of comparison will always make yours look great.

4) There is always the old dull idea of getting a black one and putting it in a white case.
As I've said in another post, minor scratches that you're likely to get on the phone would be far less visible on a white phone compared to black (from my experience).

I have an old iPod in white and for whatever reason guys thought it looked "girly" all the time. whatever. My old iBook G4 was white and non-Mac people always felt it looked feminine. When the black iPod came out I was all over that. especially the U2 (do not like that band) special which I still have but it no longer works.

i was going to get the white i4 but glad it wasn't released at the same time because I like the black. at first i was like who cares but the lawyers I work with all have black and they all said they wanted white but now that they have black they said they are happy they did not get the white as it is unprofessional looking. I didn't think so and they didn't say that at launch so...

i am liking the GelaSkins though... so all is not lost for the black owners. you could take it off when you need to go "pro" looking. I saw some pic of a black with a white skin and on the back had the Old School Rainbow logo...

but yes there is a reason why TVs all have dark borders...

All this "screen looks greyer" on the white, "more feminine" etc etc
B/S
Just wait until they release it before making sweeping assumptions.

To those that are "glad I bought black in the end"... course you're happy, you have an iPhone 4 but just wait until the white comes out before making bold statements like that as you've not seen the white in the flesh and to say you actually made the right choice seems a bit bias.

White is definetly more SEXY than the black.

We'll have to see what it looks like in person. Pictures will be deceiving -- if the photographer doesn't manually adjust the camera exposure to compensate for the amount of white in the frame, the result will tend to be underexposed and seem less vibrant. A lot of the press photos of the white iphone 4 seem to suffer from this.

Yes, that is my lament. I would dearly love to just make up my mind and not have to go there and fret about it all. Heh. I don't really think it's worth the pain over it all, but I am passing the time waiting with speculation.

How is bad reception and dropped calls marginal? That is what a phone does, call people...

Marginal was the wrong word, i meant 'isolated'. Sorry ;)

If all the phones were unusable then it would be a different issue. The fact is they do work, just some have an issue that is waiting to be resolved either by software, a cover or by Apple informing customers how to use these devices in low signal areas.

A hardware update may follow, but it would not be necessary for Apple to replace all the iPhone antennas sold, unless the phones did not work at all. Apple only need address the customers whose iPhones are failing without resolve.

i doubt it BUT a person at the Apple Store said it wouldn't surprise him if they did a mass re-call allowing people to exchange their i4's for new black ones or whites...that have been "adjusted"...

that would be a total disaster if they did that and would not happen in my eyes.

It might be a disaster to Apple, but more costly in the long run....they will replace them if necessary and simply modify the returned phones for re-sale.

Do you think the white iPhone 4 will have a hardware fix?

And also for the next batch of black ones?

Perhaps some insulating material for the antennas?

I might just wait for the white ones or the next batch of black ones. ´Cause if I will have this antenna issue, I´m taking the phone back immediately! I don´t like to use cases or "hold the phone in some weird new way".

Nothing Hardware related will change EVER without you knowing about it. If they were to change the way the Antenna works, which is the root of the death grip problem, they would have to reseek FCC certification. That filing process would tip off the world as to a hardware change .. even if it wasn't visible to the naked eye.

As bad of a PR fiasco this whole antenna issue is, it would only be made worse if Apple decided that certain customers waiting for the white iPhone got different hardware....

Nah, no fix needed this year. Next year all the fixes will be in place for the new iPhone 5. Any remaining bugs will be worked out in the next model.

Has anyone who has a white phone (are they out yet?) tried the reception issue??? that would be GREAT test to see if they made some sort of change.:D

Black iPhones will continue to have problems. While every White iPhone Apple sells will be perfect. I know this because Apple is a raciest company! seriously the things people come up with!

doubt it... they're already in boxes waiting to be shipped I bet... too late for that run... not to say that later run iP4's might not get a silent update...

Guy in my office got his today and he's got more problems than mine. I got mine on the 23rd. He's got proximity sensor issues and the exact reception deal that I do.

I hope that they make changes to new batches. After all, most of us upgraded to the new iPhone 4 to take advantage of it's improved features over the previous versions not to get a newly designed 3GS! My old 3GS still records faster speeds than my iPhone 4...i don't know what to do from here

It depends if Apple pushes for one then yes but highly unlikely. There a lot of factors plus could take awhile for a hardware fix and I doubt Apple is willing to wait. Lets say it's the PA then a redesign could take months if not longer. It's been known to happen but highly unlikely. Also since all cell phones are sold in Lots, it's easy to track these problematic phones. It could weed out weaker PAs so the antenna issue isn't one.

If you're 3GS is speedier than your iphone 4 then you need to take it back. I get WAAAAY faster speeds now.

I doubt there's going to be any hardware change. Why not just get the phone, try it out, and if it sucks, return it before the 30 days? With all the noise out in the media and on these forums, it's hard to tell how prevalent this issue even is. You may get the phone and have no reception problems. Anyway, I don't have any issues and no one I know personally or the ones I trust on these forums have the issue.

I like how you intentionally wrote your thread title as a statement and not a question, "White iPhone 4 = hardware fix". It is very misleading and rude.

I suggest you don't get the iPhone 4, it is not for you.

Don't like to use cases? Of all the previous iPhones that have come out, this one needs a case the most because of the glass screens both front and back.

If you buy the iPhone 4, you will most likely come back and complain about how easy it is to get it scratched up.

I love how people are so wishful thinking and dream about a fix because they want an iPhone 4 so badly.

If you want it, just buy it. If the whole "death grip" phenomena is a problem for you, don't buy it. Get an Android phone on Verizon.
