come on guys if Apple can't meet demand for the current crappy iphone you think they will have time by September 30 to to actually manufacture new ones? come ooooooooooon....
All existing problems will be fixed by June 2011. Of course they just might toss in a couple of new ones.....

when you think about it, it sounds very simple and easy to fix the prblem.
as confirmed, we all know tha antenna issue can be solved with a case so just put a small non-conductive invisible layer on iphone 4 frame and it will do the trick. I think its way too easy 4 them to fix this problem.

I do believe this. That's why it's taking forever for new stock.

No that's not the reason lol, even here in Sacramento no one has any left, I know of Apple employees who can't get them. It's because there are NO MORE LEFT. They next shipment isn't going to contain a 'fix', the reason for the date is because it's the date of the 3Q end.
Worth a wait
In this case I think nobody should deny any possibility. If you think you want to buy now then by all mean and for everyone that prefer to wait after September 30th i think it worth a wait... Its not long anymore a couple of month.
There are always a risk being an early adoptee and they should accept if any changes to the second batch. People been given a choice and nobody should deny or condemn any comment being made by someone.
For me i am among the early adopter of apple product such as iPad but this time, I wait what happen after September the 30th. If there is a fix than i am luck if not than I will decide whether i will proceed to buy or wait until the next iteration. As simple as that...

Here is why I said that: I got my first iPhone 4 a day before release date that had really bad signal and slow data (AT&T has glitch, I know) and then returned it. Today, I went to Bestbuy and got a new one, I couldn't replicate the death grip and my data speeds are back to normal whereas a friend of mine with a release day iPhone has slow data.
Nobody here wants to believe, but i think we will infact see a see a redesign iphone 4 after sept. 30 I am guessing it will have a thin internal bumper/insulator or redesigned with permanent fixed ultra thin external bumper.
But apple is NOT going to continue to with the same device un=redesigned device and get hammered by the media all year.............
I totally agreeI am. I think the Sep 30 date corresponds to a scheduled release of a new batch of newly-engineered iPhone 4s. My guess is, they'll have installed and tested some internal shield or insulator placed in the vicinity of the weak area at the lower left of the phone (antenna), or re-engineered the phone itself to have made the bumper and signal loss issue moot by then.
They'll probably have pulled their heads out of their asses with the white phones by then as well.
Ok, so let me get this straight. You think Apple will make slight changes for September. So then what happens to ALL those who bought their phones before that? Let's guess by then Apple will have sold between 5-6 million iPhone 4's.
That means they would have to recall or exchange that many phones for the new ones.
And don't say, oh but they gave you a free case.
The media and bad press this would generate would be FAR more than what we've seen date.

I agree totally. Apple is not going to redesign the iPhone 4 at all. This is, and will stay, the current iteration of the iPhone.
No, they won't revise the iPhone.
1) It will piss people who already bought a 4 off.
2) It would be admitting a fault.
3) For an antenna change it would have to be approved by FCC.
4) That would mean the white colour would be delayed again due to a redesing

If they leave it the same the complaints will continue. I think Apple are in for some pain regardless of what they do. If they don't fix it, people will continue to complain about the signal loss. If they do fix it, they are tacitly accepting that there was a design flaw all along. It's currently a lose/lose situation for Apple. I think they've dug themselves quite a deep hole.
i agree. its this date because it gives everyone enough time to register for a free case and gives apple enough time to work out their costs in time for their Q3 report.
I doubt highly they are going to be changing the actual design of the iP4. Maybe just ship the phone with a free black bumper. If you want another case or coloured bumped, you will buy that like normal.
I don't think they could afford to re-develop the iP4 anyway, plus its not worth it for them because this time next year, we will all be complaining about our new iP5, which they will be developing now.
It would cost far to much to redevelop the antenna system completely, especially after they have just spent millions on cases for everyone.
There is a year warranty. Isn't it possible if they do tweak the design we could bring our phones in within the year for another one? If only the phone being brought in replicates the problem of course.
I think it depends on whether there is a relatively easy fix or not. I don't think that they will continue producing a faulty device if there is an easy fix to the problem.
I guess that Apple is making the new iphone 4 with small non-conductive invisible layer and sell to the market gradually without announce it. So the costumers who bought before September won't return their on iphone4 and the new costumers will happy with their new iphone4.
Steve said "maybe we'll have a better idea". That's certainly leaves the door open for a fix other than a free case. There are too many posters here who are so "sure" there is nothing Apple can do with the design of the iPhone 4 other than nothing or a free case.
So what happens to the people who buy the new phone after the free case cut off date? If the problem still exists then it doesn't seem fair that those buyers wouldn't get the same benefit. My money is on a cheap discrete fix.

I can't imagine apple releasing a revision. The backlash would be way worse than it already is. The revision will be next June when they state they've fixed the death grip issue that didn't exist
