ModNote: Please use this thread to speculate on features, salivate, argue for, argue against, or otherwise discuss the next generation iPhone, i.e., the one that will presumably be released in Summer 2011. For the specific sub-rumor that Verizon will get its own version of the iPhone in 2011, 1 use this thread instead. Thanks! --mkrishnan

I'll be third, NO notification light because it would make the phone seem cheap. Do you want a plastic screen too? How about a matte rubber back?

    (Don't flame, that's my OPINION)

And please, the iPhone 4 isn't even out yet. This thread is EXTREMELY premature.

Ya know, while we're at it, some for the iPhone X--an everlasting battery, 2mm thick, 3D screen, an HD projector that looks better than my MBP screen, on a 70+ inch scale, thought commands, self cleaning, indestructible...

Wow, we're already talking about 5 when 4 isn't even on pre-order yet? Overachievers.

    lol wut?

    My vote:
led notification light. It could be done the same way it is on Macbook Pros, where the light is completely invisible until it's lit.

    1GB of RAM

Faster processor (just a speed bump)

screen that takes up the entire front face without changing the dimensions of the phone. Move the home button to the edge, remove the useless front camera and get the ambient light sensor and speaker on the edge as well.

    64GB of storage.

You realize that's just a marketing term made up by Apple, right? Chromatic colors is redundant, nano is a size, none of it makes sense.

Why not just say "color options" or "come in the same colors as the nano line"?

OK, good point. If the have a nice white one that fades in and out and is completely invisible it has my vote. But I'll never buy an iPhone again (don't quote me on that) if it flashes harshly and has some plastic over it and is like green or red like the BB ones.

Don't worry. While it is an extremely nice feature, Apple would not implement it in the same way as RIM. Steve would act like Apple invented the notification light when he introduced it though.

I mean the colors of the iPod nano chromatic. I realize that that isn't a work describing that set of colors in general.

I think the next one will have..

Better quality cameras on the front and back.
    More RAM for sure.
    Maybe a faster processor.
4G would be ideal then it would be called "iPhone 4G" but I don't think most networks are ready for it. O2 don't have full UK 3G coverage and AT&T definitely don't.
    Maybe a 16:9 screen?
Maybe an LED screen if they're cheap enough.

That's all I can think of for now. I expect a similar update to the iPhone 3G -> iPhone 3GS.

instead of being able to pinch outward to make the screen bigger u just pull on the bumper and the whole phone gets bigger. also it could turn into a napkin that cleans its self after u use it.

    iPhone 5?

We don't even know all of the features on iPhone 4.

LED notification? It's an iPhone, not a Nokia! :p

I think it will be like the 3G ---> 3GS transition.

So double ram (512mb), new GPU, 64gb available, faster CPU. (arm cortex A9 based?)

    I'm more thrilled about iOS 5.0 ;)

What I'd like: FM radio with RDS and live pause. C'mon, the Nano got it.

i need someone to explain this to me...

how does a LED notification make a phone look cheap, or like a nokia?

if it's executed properly, it will look fine.

    4G...

After being so excited about the iPhone4 for days after the keynote, I've now calmed down and think I'll refrain from spending any money until 4G iphone comes out.

No point spending £500+ now only to have to do it again when 4G comes out! Although, chances are it'll be iPhone 6 before we get decent enough 4G from O2.

Screw the iPhone 5, let's talk about the 7.

I want it to wipe my ass for me, and a built in bottle opener would be nice!
