Last I checked white was apples *original* color. And I don't think apple's computers from the 80's really appealed to the ladies.. Just my $.02

Link to where I said i'd get whatever color for whatever reasons? Link to where I said that there are no other reasons you should pick whatever color?

Calm down. op asked a question, I responded to it.

i'm not getting excited. this is all text here, isn't it. ;)

i was just responding to your post saying that one color is more masculine than the other. i didn't mean to make it seem as though i was singling you out, but rather trying to make a point about the thread as a whole. sorry if it came across wrong.

What year is this again?

White electronics=girly?
Girly=bad?
Bad=female?
Bad=homosexual?

Spare me. It's your money, buy whatever the hell you want.

Personally I don't think white is girly for the iPhone, I prefer it tbh as Black = Gothic/Emo to me which is :s

I do think the white one looks girly in comparison to the black. No I don't think negatively of anyone that gets it, or think a guy is gay. I just think the white looks a little girly. I'm a little annoyed at people saying that if you think the white one looks girly, you're insecure.

White is retro

I bought a white iPhone because it looked very retro 60's/70's to me. White plastic was very popular in electronics in the 60's and 70's, especially futuristic designs. Google "weltron spaceball" and you will see what I mean. :)

I should add that I will get the iPhone 4 in black. IMHO, the white on the front ruins the look for me. It takes a sophisticated design and makes it look like a toy. Not a girly toy, just a toy.

Totally agree.

I like the white. I don't see how a phone can be considered girly? People need to be less concerned over these petty things.

I'm thinking black just for the fact that i'd take fingerprints over dirt anytime. I'll just get a screen protector to help with the fingerprints (sp's seem to make prints extremely easy to rub off, to the point where one wipe of the thumb will clean the screen).

Basing the dirt thing off of previous white items, such as phones, 360/PS3 controllers, PSP's and DS's, etc. All of those had visible dirt that made it look dull as crap, while for those that i had the black version of (all of the examples except some phones and the DS) looked clean when black.

Just keep in mind that this is a little different being that the front and black are glass. Should be easier to wipe/keep clean than some of the previous plastic devices you mentioned.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one...

I'm torn...but after having the original iPhone (which I loved compared to the 3G) and a black 3G I think it's time for the switch. IMHO I always thought the white 3GS looked cheap (granted I wasn't a fan of the black one either and just put a case on it) But this time around both models look so sleek... So I'm going to switch it up and go for white this time around. And assuming I can live without my Case-Mate ID case I'm going to go naked this time too.

And to the guy who was all about the matching aesthetics between the different :apple: products... my best friend is the exact same way. He will be getting black because it "matches" his other stuff. In fact he misses his black macbook even though his new macbook pro is a much sleeker looking computer IMHO.

There's something about the white one that reminds me of my childhood... I smile and think about a storm trooper. My best friends' response: "Fine you get the storm trooper and I'll get Darth Vader"

I was originally thinking white, but i dont really want to venture out and try something new. It still looks kinda queer: the white home button and the visible proximity sensor are what turn me away. while black on the other hand is still as sharp as ever and still looks sleek.

Whew! You think you guys have a tough decision.... I have been sporting the criminally lame BB Storm (not even the Storm 2). My storm is black but has a nice metallic back which doesn't show fingerprints much. I have oily skin so no matter which phone I choose I will be cleaning it regularily.

The one deciding factor leading to black for me is this: in all of the advertising that Apple has done to show off thier quality of the screen, they have used the black model EVERY time. The colors and images pop out very dramatically and strong with the black bezel front.

Apple are very good sales people and they know the best way to present their products. The fact that they have chosen black really screams to me. Also when shown compared side to side. The black screen images pop out, white doesn't.

Why purchase an amazing display without using the best frame in which to view it?

Goin Black if I do break down and buy it :)

Also regarding that horrible smudged photo, I guess if you are going to eat chocolate cake with your hands and not wash them, then pick up an iphone and mangle it as much as possible it sure will look as bad as that picture. Personally I think that if you have the black one you are likely to be more fastidious as to cleanliness and keeping it disinfected/clean.

The white over black argument (more smudgy or dirty looking) reminds me of historical times when the French (European) were known to toss on more cologne rather than bathe. Your not really hiding anything, just camoflauging the dirt.

Funny that you said that. During the keynote, Steve said it reminded him of the Jetson's and their view of the future. That's what the white reminds me of- a retro view of the future. It's really growing on me.

Just to clarify ...

They're saying they don't like the looks of black front/white back.

I know that some people don't like the look of the white back/black front ... that wasn't what I was addressing. I was addressing the comment

"BUT I disagree that some people want white back/black front. That would just look like an oreo."

It seems like mloffa is saying that she/he doesn't think people want a white back/black front. To which I pointed out that I, in fact, DO want one. How can you think no one would want a white back/black front when I had just said a few posts earlier that I did? I was also referencing my mock-up of such a phone to point out that it doesn't look like an oreo.

I just want to make sure that no one thought I was saying anyone's opinion of what they like or don't like is invalid or wrong. It's absolutely no concern of mine what color you like or don't like.

Again, I don't think they were disregarding your opinion. But, he is right. The majority of people would probably not want an Oreo iPhone. Since the design of the 3G/3GS was not as symmetrical (when looking at the side view especially) it worked to have two colors together. On the iPhone 4, since the design is very symmetrical, it looks more...odd. No one is saying that your opinion is wrong, but for this design of the iPhone, having the same continuous color is more appropriate, and most consumers agree.

And while we're on the subject of aesthetics...

As a very long time lurker but very rarely ever post I just want to say when gizmodo broke the iphone and there was the uproar of how much people hated it "said it didn't look like apple" blah blah blah... I sat back thinking... man I really like the way that thing looks...especially compared to the 3G. The curved plastic back has bothered me from the very first image I saw. I only got the 3G because i dropped my original iPhone and dented the metal where the sleep/wake button so it was no longer usable and was forced to get a new phone. (Well of course I had to get an iPhone...so the 3G was the choice). I'm very very happy with the new design.

So all that to say... June 24th can't get here soon enough. White 32 gig...simply delicious.
