I hate you guys for making me second guess myself. Again.

Before coming into this thread I was about 95%/5% in favor of black... mainly since I've had a white 3G and 3GS.

Now after seeing the "real life" pictures of the white iPhone 4... the small handful of images of the black with a ****ton of oily smudges... totally turns me off. I also sort of agree that the white iPhone 4 looks fresh and new and the black one from the front anyway, while it does look great, looks SO much like the current model. So many people already have black phones too and it is kinda nice having something a little less common. That's why I bought the white iPhone 3G and 3GS mainly.

Damn it. My mom and partner are getting white... I was gonna be the one to get black. But now I think I'll see their white and wish I picked it too. So maybe now I'll go white. :p

All I know is I'd better make my damn mind up by pre-order time. The gavel comes down at that moment. I don't wanna wait in line and buy in person.

Don't get me wrong, I really do like the white iPhone; there's two things that I really do not like about it and for me happen to be a deal breaker.

1. The proximity sensor above the earpiece. I'm really not a fan, but I'm not an engineer so I don't know why this is here on the white and not on the black. With the camera, earpiece and sensor, it looks like there's too much going on.

2. The black border on the white iPhone's screen seems to annoy me... Whereas the border around the black iPhone's screen blends in which I like a lot better.

Here's a side by side picture so you can see what I mean:

pretty sure that picture just sold me on the white
oh, and the sensor is there for proximity and ambient light, it is also on the black but it hides better with the black front

if you shine a light directly to the right of your current iphone you will see 3 dots that do the same thing now, and understand how they are hidden because its black

timeconsumer understands that. The point still stands that it's a lot more prominent on the white iPhone. Just because each sensor also exists on the black doesn't mean it's not a fair point to critique the look of the white iPhone.

Personally, I really dig the black iPhone. I think it's sleek as hell and beautiful. However, I currently have a white iPhone 3G and have never regretted it. I'm sure I wouldn't regret a black iPhone 4, but I plan on getting the white despite my gripes with the look. I'm not too worried about looks, but I do dig white Apple products.

UGH!! I am sooo torn! I always liked black and still do. I really like white this time, and I think I'm just starting to like white more as an iPhone color overall (like on 3G/'s too). I like white but kinda think its too out on a limb for my personality and style...but EVERYONE has black phones (not just iPhones).

I agree the white is very awesome looking. And I'm sorry I should have mentioned that I'm aware the sensors are also present on the black iPhone (also on my current iPhone) but I just prefer how the black hides this better. Unless in direct light you wouldn't know it's there.

Correct, I am aware of that, and as you mentioned it's way more prominent on the white iPhone, agreed 100%.

I've actually been going back and forth between the two, until I realized the two things I mentioned above. However, I do watch a lot of movies/tv shows on my current iPhone so the black border would blend in just fine with the movie, however I'm not sure I would like that when using other apps, browsing sites, etc...

Still have 2 more days to decide, but as of now leaning towards the black. It's too bad apple didn't make the option of customizing these, selecting which colors for front and back. Perhaps in the future they will allow this. But I'd definitely go white back, black front.

God, I cannot get over how good the white iPhone looks. It's fantastic! I cannot wait to get my hands on one. Only 11 days!

Likewise. I had a white 3G, and my initial reaction was to go for a black 4, because the front looked funny. But the more I see pictures/videos of the white, the nicer it looks. And it looks really nice in that picture. :)

im going for white!

i looks better with the bumpers...

thinking white with the blue or black bumper

Nope!

possibly with the pink bumper though!

I would consider the white if the front didn't look so odd. I dunno, there's just something about it that just doesn't appeal to me. Black iPhone 4 all the way!

It's girly/unprofessional. Unprofessional moreso than girl but I wouldn't be caught dead pulling out a toy looking white phone to save a contacts information while wearing a suit.

Says you. I see 'suits' around Wall Street fiddling with white 3G's all day, your 'unprofessional' quip is mindless at best. Do you work for the mob or something? That's the only setting I can think of where white can be considered 'girly.'

If I have to choose a color I almost always choose black, but I am really fond of the old white macs and iPods and this definitely has that look. Plus, I figure the black one more or less looks like the same old iPhone, but the white one looks pretty different now that the front is also white. Basically, I love the look of the white one, but I think the black suits me better.

Here's my debate I have with myself: The default wallpaper used to show off the iOS4 doesn't look right with the white iPhone 4 (I'm aware it can be changed), so for that reason it's not selling it for me. However, when I see the white iPhone when using apps, looking at pictures, videos etc, it looks beautiful! I am an owner of the white 3G and constantly changed my mind when going to buy my iPhone the first time round. On the other hand the black iPhone 4 just looks so slick, and it would be nice to try something different! I'm now sitting on the fence again! Arrggh! I guess I can make a better decision once I check them out in person!

For me, I'll be going for the white version. I think they both look really nice, but the if I get black, I'll be able to see all the fingerprints and it'll end up with me wiping them away constantly, like on my iPad. I don't mind seeing the sensor at the top, and how it contrasts with the screen because I won't be watching that many movies on it since I have my iPad for that.

I have had both a white iPhone 3G and 3GS.
So i was leaning toward the white.
But the more I look at it all I see is white.
I find it very distracting to look at. In a darker space all you are gonna see is this white bezel, not to mention if there is any form of light leak it's gonna glow like a night light. Also the white home button, I can see the whiners now when the white button turn yellow or get yucked up with black gunk from oils and finger schmutz.

So black it is, this time. Now that they ruined it with the white front.

i really think the white front stands out in a good way. my friends are torn. but they are all leaning towards white now. i think white looks more sharp, classy, different, bold, fun.

I have a White 3G (Not for much longer :() and when iPhone 4 was first announced, I was definately going for the Black. After a few pictures released, I was interested in the White, Then found myself thinking White again, and now back to Black.

Black Front White Back anyone?

Officially decided on the white! :)

Now, I still don't know if I'm going to go 16gb or 32gb.

Ah, too many decisions.

I'm so glad when googling i found this site to find that it's not just me that is constantly hammering my brain in regards to which iPhone colour to get!?

The main two points for me in regards to both are:-

Black: Showing up greasy smudges and finger prints
White: If the white border is going to distract from the screen

Currently i have a white iPhone 3G so am prob ready to upgrade to iPhone 4. My 3G is white and i love the fact that it stands out and also hides the smudges and finger prints on the back. I have really grown attached to my phone since jailbreaking and would sorts feel sad to let it go as i think the phone is brilliant.
My only concerns are A) the fact that my current supplier O2 as gone from unlimited data usage to a cap of 500mb (also cut mins from 600 to 300 and charging 20p for MMS now) for same monthly price.
B) If i do change i will want to keep the phone for some time so the colour, although only cosmetic is important to me to make the right choice.

In Depth:-

Covering my main concern is the contrast of the screen. Will watching say a movie or youtube clip or even browsin the internet become a concern when the front is white?
Aswell as the fact that the white border stands out more, also if you look closely even on the black one you can see a thin band of black where the screen has no active pixels, this blends in more with the black but may be a constant niggle on the white.
