[Merged] iPhone - White vs. Black (2010 / iPhone 4 Edition)

Whew! You think you guys have a tough decision.... I have been sporting the criminally lame BB Storm (not even the Storm 2). My storm is black but has a nice metallic back which doesn't show fingerprints much. I have oily skin so no matter which phone I choose I will be cleaning it regularily.
The one deciding factor leading to black for me is this: in all of the advertising that Apple has done to show off thier quality of the screen, they have used the black model EVERY time. The colors and images pop out very dramatically and strong with the black bezel front.
Apple are very good sales people and they know the best way to present their products. The fact that they have chosen black really screams to me. Also when shown compared side to side. The black screen images pop out, white doesn't.
Why purchase an amazing display without using the best frame in which to view it?

Also regarding that horrible smudged photo, I guess if you are going to eat chocolate cake with your hands and not wash them, then pick up an iphone and mangle it as much as possible it sure will look as bad as that picture. Personally I think that if you have the black one you are likely to be more fastidious as to cleanliness and keeping it disinfected/clean.
The white over black argument (more smudgy or dirty looking) reminds me of historical times when the French (European) were known to toss on more cologne rather than bathe. Your not really hiding anything, just camoflauging the dirt.
I agree with you 100% which is why I am pretty sure I am going to get black. I wash my hands all the time before I touch my electronics and I don't really have a problem with fingerprints. Not to mention my skin is naturally pretty dry so I don't have oily hands like most people.
I also notice that the screen looks better on black. I'm on my iPad right now and I was looking at the screen trying to pretend what it would it would like with a white bezel. I think it would be too noticeable in the corner of your eye when you are trying to focus on the screen. If you have a problem with fingerprints get a skin like zagg or whatever and the fingerprint problem is pretty much solved. The white is nice though I just don't think it fits my personality in addition to my feelings about the screen. It's a bit too flamboyant for the lack of a better word.
I think I'm going to go with the white this time around. I've had black every year and want to change it up, plus I think the white looks really nice. I just hope I don't regret it and wish I had the black. The black is the safe bet but the white for some reason looks really good to me. It would be nice if you had the 14 day return policy to exchange colors if you decide you don't like it. I think I'll be happy with the white though. Looks beautiful in all the hands on. 
My 3GS is White and I loved the white over the black, however with the i4, the White looks Cheezie and I am going for the Black 32GB this time around.
I think they should have brought other colors out this year, and the bumpers are not worth the price, so I will wait for a good case to come out from Switcheasy or InCase

I wish apple's iphone4 gallery would include white closeups...
Slashgear's website does have some great pictures though.
The video on Slashgear sold me. There's a really gorgeous finish because of the glass-on-white that doesn't come across in photos.
It seems that the black bezel photographs better. I was considering which screen would actually be more appealing and I noticed that I am working from a white iMac. I have a Macbook at home with a black bezel and I never have noticed a difference.
Still undecided on the color. I think the black looks sleeker, but white is kind of nostalgic. Think I am leaning toward white.

Yeah that slashgear video converted me! Even though I have a black (bordered) Macbook Pro and a current black 3GS, I'm going white for iPhone4!
I'm so torn right now. At first I didn't like the front of the white phone. I thought it would be distracting and make the screen look smaller. Then it grew on me, and I was pretty set on it. Now that time is running out, I'm not sure which to order.
The GF wants a white one, so I'm thinking about getting black. Worst case scenario, maybe we can switch off, though I doubt she'd want to. I might just end up getting white myself. I'm sure I'll get used to white being on the front.

I've got a white 3G and I always loved the white iPods. This time I'm probably going to go with the black one.
I agree with others who've said the white front complicates the design. I'm concerned with what's on my screen ... not on it's frame. On the white phone I see a black dot for the camera, dark slits for the sensors, a dark area for the speaker, and the screen edges are highlighted by being contrasted with the white bezel. With the black phone all of that fades away and thus creates less visual noise when I'm looking at the screen. I think Apple had a great design solution with the white 3G and 3GS by making only the back white.

Has that rumor been confirmed from more than the one source? If so my decision has been made easier: black!

Even if it is true, is it really that big of a deal to order from Apple instead?
a. wait for somebody to break their phone and sell it for parts on CL or ebay
b. wait for spare parts to become available from the repair sites
c. find someone who (for whatever reason) would like a black back to their white phone

So I'm all ready for the iPhone pre-orders tomorrow but I can't decide what color to get, white or black.
The black looks better in all of the pictures, but I don't want all the smudges I have seen on pictures.
