I've decided on white too.
Initially was going to go for black, but after seeing the pictures on Engadget, defo going for white.

Not only is white iconic Apple, but it just looks so much more fresher.
Black does look sleek, but put next to a 3GS looks too similar for me.
The white feels newer for me... if that makes sense.

Also, why do people keep saying that white will get dirty??!!
The phone is sandwiched in glass so the white plastic will not get stained or scuff marks? Any on the glass itself I'm sure can easily be cleaned.

white shows dirt more. White cars. white macbooks, white pants, white shirts, my old white guitar looked dirty all the time.

My white 3GS didn't get dirty after a year and this one is made of glass, so it would resist better for me. But, I'm still torn between both colors. Black for the classy look or white to stand out?

I have been back and fourth over white and black. My girlfriend has decided on white and now so have I.

Couple reasons:
1. Flashy and new with the white front.
2. Just looks a lot better on the hands on videos. The black isn't nearly as appealing as the white in the users hand in my opinion.
3. The main reason: I hate fingerprints and knew they were going to be bad but after seeing this it really turned me off.

Also I am starting to like the grill over the sensors on the white. Adds a bit to it.

Pointless thread but whatever. At least its not about eligibility.

Why white? Black is the way to go. I have itouch 1st gen, iphone 3G, iPhone 3GS all black. Now iphone 4. I want it black too. :)

2) It's glass over the (whatever the white is) and not a plastic like material so the white will not get dirty.

Even if it didn't have glass over it, I don't know that the "white getting dirty" would be that big an issue. I mean, I've had a white 3GS for almost a year now (got it launch day) and I have yet to see any evidence of it looking dirty.

I would've bought white with black front. It looks like it'll be easy (for a price) to swap the panels out if/when they break.

Sure but:

1) Video looks better w/ a black frame. It's optical illusion, sure, but its one that works.
2) White gets dirty looking
3) Black is professional -- though if you are just a school kid probably not a factor.

I've been using a white iPhone since the launch of the 3G and never found the white dirty

I'm getting white. It doesn't matter because I will have a case on it anyway, so the back won't be shown. But I keep forgetting the whole front is white, LOL. So, with a case you'll still be able to tell a white iPhone from a black iPhone. Oh well, I love the color white. Its clean and modern.

True. But that's just surface dirt, and being the phone is glass, I'm sure it can be easily wiped so I can't see it being a big problem as say getting white pants/shirts dirty.

Black may not show dirt marks, but for sure it'll show fingerprints. Also sometimes after using my 3Gs after a game of football, it sometimes leaves grease marks from my face on the screen.

So I guess there is trade-off between a black and white iPhone.

Everyone that keeps saying the white is going to get dirty...

...it's glass!!

EXACTLY!!!!

People shouldn't compare white pants to glass. LOL. Of course the white pants can get dirty, but glass can be wiped off.

As I mentioned in the other white vs. black thread...

When faced with this style choice the only question I ask myself is would James Bond be using it?

Ya know, lots of people have bought or is buying a white iPhone to "stand out" more but it seems like you should buy the black for that now... I'd say 90% of the people replying here are saying they're getting the white... Big difference compared to past releases

I myself was planning on getting the black but have changed my mind due to the finger prints issue and the white front, that I once hated, grew on me

Do people actually watch full-length movies on their iPhone? (not saying this in a snarky way, I'm really curious).

Back when I worked in an office, yes, I watched full-length movies (well, mainly listened while working, but I'd occasionally watch for a few minutes at a time) every day. I still do when on flights or when I have time to kill (say, while getting work done on the car, etc.). It's not something I do every day, but often enough. I'd also be interested in seeing hands-on video of video on a white iPhone. I mean, I love white, but if it's going to negatively impact the video-watching experience...

ive been spamming this picture on all these white v black threads because i saw it in a thread and it is the picture that is convincing me to go white.

white looks so much more superior and nicer than black when you put them next to each other, even when you take the fingerprints off the black one :D

that photo has convinced me to go white
dont know why but just putting the black and white next to each other makes the white one look superior to me
That picture just put me in the "white" column (again). That picture not only makes the white version look crisper, but it also makes the black version look bland as hell. My main concern is grim and dirt making it look dirty, but I'm just going to have to hope that it won't be much of a problem.

Edit: i still don't see how having the white version will distract you while watching videos??? The phone is nice and all but jeez...

I'm dead set on white, and I'm sure that I'll be pleased with the choice; being 19 does help though, I don't think my 42 year old dad would be able to 'pull off' the white iPhone.

I learned that everyone should go with their gut and get the color THEY want--not because it hides scratches, fingerprints (wipe them off!) or sensors being exposed but because when you pull that phone out of your pocket it'll make you go "wow".

OK, imagine you're chillin outside on a nice day and you pull out your white iPhone 4. Now imagine you pulling out your black iPhone 4! Which one to you would seem a more "happy" choice? Get the one that makes you giddy.

I have a white iPhone 3GS and I'm getting a black iPhone 4. Because I missed my black 3G. It was oily, scratched up, etc but when clean it looked DAMNED good with the chrome trim.

the black you could mistake for a 3GS
back in the day when the 3G came out, white was only available in the 16gb model, not the 8. it was considered the 'luxury color' and i think its being considered that again. its not why i want white but i dont mind having a sorta flashy phone opposed to a fingerprint magnet that looks like it could be a 3gs if you put a case on it

That's the problem, they BOTH look really nice. I don't think anyone here would complain in the least if they HAD to get one color over the other
