Hoping the white wins me over

I'm going to have to wait to see them in person; I really want to like the white one - hoping it brings back memories of my iMac G5; that was a beautiful piece of design work that graced our living room for 3 years and has spent the last two years serving my parents.

It's been suggested elsewhere that it is the proximity sensor and/or the ambient light sensor.

It's present on the black, too, but much, much harder to see (but - I guess - it should be easy to spot in direct sunlight on the black one, too... ;)).

There is no grill on the black. The sensors on the black blend in, much like the current 3G(s).

I am guessing they thought it would look silly with 3-4 black spots on the front, so they choose to perforate the front to allow the sensors to operate.
 
I don't know, the white just looks odd. I have a white 3GS now, but the white iPhone 4 looks kind of toy-ish? I think I'll go black, but the fingerprints are an issue.
 
It's tough. My first 3G iPhone was black (8GB), however, I soon sold it for a white 16GB. I now have a white 3GS, and after looking at the photo's of the black and white iPhone 4 I'm undecided. I like how the white doesn't show the finger prints as easily as the black does. However, as a few others mentioned, the images make it look like a toy. I will have to see both in person before I make a decision.
 
the reason why apple put a black front on the 3G and 3GS was to make the display stand out. the screen against the white front doesn't pop out as much.

I have to agree. However, I really like the white back, but the white front just doesn't look good to me (kinda toyish as somebody else mentioned). Since as I previously stated in this thread I plan to have a case on the back, I have to buy based on the look of the front and the black just looks better to me on the front. Now a black front with the white back, that'd be preferred.

I would be in heaven if it was a white back and black front.
 
Looking at the Engadget images they took of the black and white iPhone 4, I am leaning a little towards the white. The actually photo's of the phone itself aren't that bad. However, I still will probably hold off on purchasing one until I see them both in person.
 
Weren't people complaining that the white 3G and 3GS didn't have white on the front? I'm still undecided.

Yes they were. And I don't know why, because it doesn't look near as good as the white back and black front. I think what's irking me about the white is the black front camera, along with the sensors above the earpiece. It just looks busy.
 
The black one looks absolutely stunning in the photos, but I fell for that when I got my 3G. Never again will I buy a black iPhone, unless Apple uses a matte back.

The black will look great until you take off the linen gloves and touch it. Then it will look nasty and disgusting within 5 minutes. The 3G has taught this to me. I will be getting a white one (assuming I can get my parents to sign another 2 year agreement early).

This question would be so inappropriate on any other day. But from what I have seen black looks the best.
White looks a bit feminine for my liking.
 
Had a black iPhone this time around, and will go with black this time I think.
White looks more girly, and black looks more professional, I'm sure some people see what I mean.

What is all this talk of coloured bumpers?

From what I've seen looks like someone had the idea of making iPhones with different colored rims, but Apple obviously either couldn't be bothered or found it would bump the cost of product up too much so settled for little case things you can put round your iPhone instead. I guess if they sell well we will be seeing colored iPhones in the future.
