[Merged] iPhone - White vs. Black (2010 / iPhone 4 Edition)

My first iPod was white. When the iPhone 3G came out, I was going to get the black one, but somehow I had a feeling that I was somehow going to walk out of there with a white one. When I got to one of the guys to check out, he asked me, and I said white (no idea how).

I can sit here any say black or white, but I think by past experiences, I am going to be getting the white one.

Call me anti-capitalist...but I don't see why Apple couldn't just throw in some of those bumpers in each box.

Totally agree. At the moment I'm edging towards the white, it does look a bit 'toy-ish' but I kinda have OCD for things like fingerprint marks!

If you want the colored bumpers, they match the white one better. If you want to go commando, black is the way to go.

Translucency!

Having read the thread and seen the pictures I conclude:

- Initially Black does look more professional, but will get greasy marks all over it. The font of my iPhone (I'm still on the original iPhone!) gets marks all over the black parts of the front so imagine what this would be like. It will look unprofessional very quickly.

- I love the translucency on some of the photos on the white. You can see the glass front and home button.

I would have preferred a steel or aluminium back but on balance white is best.

I really am not liking the look of the white model. And I've got a white 3GS. Lower perceived contrast and the whole device just looks cheapened.

I agree... I think the white face looks terrible.

Going with Black this time. Since the back is glass which is less prone to scratches. On the Black 3Gs, your can see scratches from a mile away.

Then again the White with a colored bumper just pops!!!

Initially I wanted black but the white one is winning me over. Especially in the Engadet photos.

I think white would wouldn't show fingerprints as badly and it wouldn't get as hot. However my current white one has a lot of hairline cracks (not that the phone works anyways), which on a black one, I'd think would be less visible.

the white is pretty but the bezel I feel like would be distracting when watching video, The black is nice but its exactly what I have now and a potential fingerprint magnet. AHHH this is an unnecessarily hard decision.

I'm liking the white one, it looks more upscale than the black one. Kinda looks like a Nokia phone. Plus the white one will be more unique.

I have a white 3g, but to me the white front on the iphone4 looks too much like a toy. The black one looks mean with the squared edges and metal and i like it

I have a white 3GS and love how it looks - it's a beautiful phone. However, Apple really beat the white iPhone with the ugly stick with the iPhone 4. The white front just looks... bad. I suppose that I'll be getting my first black iPhone then (I went from the original to the 3GS).

I'm kinda surprised by these reactions. I thought the white 3G design looked weird with a white back, chrome bezel, and black front. Not bad, I thought about getting one, but still weird. White all around however looks pretty nice to me and harkens back to the original iPod (no one seemed to have any complaints about the white-only iPods being "girly" ... or the iMacs, or iBooks, or etc.).

Black is of course a great bet, but I'm leaning towards the white one right now. Maybe I'm just bored with black, or it looks too much like the 3GS, I dunno. The little sensor grille at the top is a tad odd, but doesn't bother me.
