Totally agree on your comparison between the Droid x and the Galaxy S. There is no comparison. Galaxy S is much better. Played with both today. Had my iphone out next to each of them. Your comments on comparing each to the iphone screen are spot on also. Enjoy your new phone!

Really? I must be lucky. Live in a great upscale neighborhood. We know at least 10 of our neighbors.

Wife just had a new baby and our neighbors brought us food for the first two weeks after we came home with new baby.

This is down in Florida

I help my neighbors out with "techie stuff" they had their kids over to walk our dog whole my wife was recovering from her C section and I had to be at work early.

But back on topic, Droid X is a little too big fr my taste. Screen is fine but not like the iPhone 4.

I am phone junkie with AT&T and tmobile service. Got my Tmobile branded Samsung Vibrant (aka galaxy S) and it's got a Super OMLED screen. To me the Samsung OMLED is almost on par with the iPhone Retina screen. Just a touch below but Samsung has an excellent screen. The Droid X screen is about 2 notches below both the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy screen.

I saw the Droid X today as I passed a Verizon Kiosk. I liked that the 4.3" screen wasn't as wide as the HD2s screen, but overall didn't like the sluggishness of the phone, and I currently use a Nexus One as I wait for my iPhone 4.

Math is too hard for folks. Let's spell it out.
IPhone in the last 19 days selling at less than 70,000 per day.
Android selling at 160,000 per day.

Still not clear enough? Android selling at over TWICE the rate as the iPhone 4.

Maybe the OP should rethink the title of this thread.

iP4 hasn't launched in all markets and is not available without a 2-3 week delay.

The iPhone 4 is being sold faster than it can be made.

Honestly, if Android on more carriers and from multiple vendors can only activate 160k at peak, this is not good news.

Moreover, activations do not equal marketshare. Same problem that the iPHone could have that a good percentage of activations are repeat customers. Market share is the most important factor, especially where RIM customers go when the realize Blackberry is a bit antiquated.

Been using an iphone for 3+ years and have been playing with a Nexus 1 with Android for 3 months. Each has it's advantages. Right now there are a few concerns I have with Android. The first is the applications that are offered. The market is still a little immature. Some of the big players aren't there yet, but that is slow changing. The 2nd is Android doesn't back up application data to the cloud. If you have to restore a phone you lose all your application data, unless you use a separate program to back it up. Reminds me of my palm and windows ce days.

One thing I loved about android was the ability to create log entries on you calendar for all you incoming and outgoing calls. This was done with add on software. Another that was very useful was Locale - definitely recommend picking that up if you haven't already.

I agree about the Samsung. Going to see the Captivate tomorrow. I'm on the fence about the IP4. More and more issues seem to be surfacing...... this is what happened to the 1st and 2nd iPhone releases. I know android doesn't do some things as good as the iPhone, but I need something functional without all the hassles.

The comment about this being similar to windows vs apple is spot on. As more manufacturers ship android capable phones, they'll be more handsets running android than ios4. Though that doesn't mean that a single android phone will outsell the iPhone 4.

This is going to be a lot more complicated that you might think.

1) Google and HTC do not make much money off of their handsets compared to Apple. Thus the iPhone will always have a R&D edge over the competition

2) Windows Phone 7 is a huge wild card. For example, verizon customers who want and iPhone have to settle for android devices. Windows Phone 7 could potentially capitalize off of the tie in to Xbox and Windows. This market is closer to the android market than the iphone market. WP7 could also be a complete failure. For better or worse, Apple, google and MS are not competing for each others customers, but for new smartphone customers and for RIM and Symbian customers (these platforms are fading IMHO).

iPhone 4

1.7 million in 3 days
then
antenna problem discovered...
1.3 million in 19 days

Android
activation per day 160k

you wanna do the math here?

Oh ok, got it. So the <1% of users affected = 1.3 million/1.7 million?

That totally makes sense  Apple will outsell Android. It's undeniable at this point with such strong sales. The iPhone 4 is a great product. That's not to say that a lot of users have now jumped ship due to the way the whole situation was handled though.

Google backs up all information to their cloud. When You reload a Phone You get All your settings and programs downloaded and installed.

Personally I dont like the size of these phones (EVO, X) and their screens dont help either, I like android, I would rather have the Nexus or original droid over these new ones. I like the widgets and UI.

But the iPhone has itunes compatibility, the app store, and AT&T (Yes, I prefer at&t)

Not to mention hardware, the iphone is a sexy beast.

How do you fanboys not get the appeal of your own device? The ONLY reason people are in love with iPhones is the ecosystem. You can get music and videos on there mindlessly with iTunes and you have a place to buy them for it with that same software. The app store is more thought out with an actual computer application for you to find apps.

Come June, the next iphone won't sell near as many phones. Microsoft will have their more than excellent music and video service, and add in xbox and office synchronization. Google will finally have their music store up. Plus, people will still have the bad taste in their mouth from the iPhone debacle and steve being a complete ass. Finally, there will be a few "iPhone killers"

I think he means the app data, not just the apps.

But, Google included that feature in Froyo (Android 2.2).

This was before the iPhone 4 came out...and you're comparing all Android phones to ONE phone. Also, there were 600000 preorders on the first day for the iPhone 4 as well. For one device vs. however many android devices there are, Apple's doing just fine.

Open Handset Alliance:

Texas Instruments, Broadcom Corporation, Google, HTC, Intel, LG, Marvell Technology Group, Motorola, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile.

VS

Apple.

Android marketshare growing, apple (and everyone else) losing marketshare.

Figure it out. ;)

It was so slow, so ugly, and the screen was horrible. It was just as bad as the washed out EVO screen, but the OS was about twice as slow.

Its no slower then the iP4.
Looks are very opinion based.
Screen is not as pixel dense as the iP4 but MUCH more color accurate.
And the motoblur based android OS is not by any means any slower then the iOS.

I own the iP4 and my brother owns the Droid X. This seems to be a case of fanboism by the OP here...

Im sure there is a free app out there that does that.

Ah, another evidence-less post. In fact, given the trend, Apple will sell more models of the new iPhone next year. Not saying I don't like the Droid X (quite contrary actually), but Apple is not going anywhere next year, other than farther to the top.

I literally had to lie to make her feel good. It was so slow, so ugly, and the screen was horrible. It was just as bad as the washed out EVO screen, but the OS was about twice as slow.

Not to mention she already got makeup all over the phone lol...

Odd, my brother just got the X and has none of the issues you mention. I rather like the device and large screen.

I completely disagree, my friend was showing me his Droid X and it didn't impress me. Screen is def worse, small text is not readable at all when it is easily readable on the iPhone. The whole OS is kinda laggy and scrolling and zooming isn't very smooth.

*not commenting on quote anymore*

I felt like it wasn't too large but with the back and the hump it kept slipping out of my hand, I actually almost dropped my friends new phone. The glass on the iPhone is much grippier. Can't comment on battery life but I got 7.5 hours of usage and 2.5 days of standby on one charge with my iPhone. iPhone is sexier hands down. Apps are better, we actually tested a few 3rd party apps side by side and iPhone won each time. Camera is a little better on the iPhone but it was very close. I do really like the notification bar on android though.

I've never played with a Droid. Have saw the Evo a few times but the OS and screen itself kept me from even picking it up.

Aside from the pure sex of the iPhone and Apple as a whole, the synching with iTunes, user friendliness, and AT&T (I too love ATT. They bought cell1 which flooded this area before selling out) are all reasons I will never depart from the iphone. The app store and developers are what continue to prop the device further ahead of their competitors. It is forever adding functions.

There is the iPhone, and then there is the rest. That's really how I, and everyone I know who uses an iphone feel.

EDIT: Forgot to mention how interchangeable it works with my MacBook. Definitely a huge reason.

I totally agree on the quality of the apps in the app store. Every year I get an iPhone, use it for awhile, and then change to a different phone. Nothing against the iPhone, I'm just used to getting a new phone about every 3-4 mos. What keeps me coming back to the iPhone is the app store and being able to browse the app store via my computer.

I love both platforms and appreciate both of them for what they are, but I love the openness of Android and the UI. The widgets and notification bar are just sweet and make the phone a little bit easier to use.

I thought the X ran 2.1. Who knows anymore.

He was responding to a quote saying that 2.2 will back-up the data. 2.2 is going to be ready for the X in August supposedly.

I LOVE how everyone now compares the iPhone 4 screen to the Evo, Incredible, Nexus, Droid, ect saying how the iPhone 4 is now so superior (which is true). Before the retina screens, many people on this same forum were saying how pixel density wouldn't matter on a screen so small. It clearly does. How we view the 800 x 480 screens now as inferior is how they saw the 3GS screen before the update

SUPER AMOLED is much better than Retina Display.
The Galaxy S is a awesome awesome device!

The phone itself is faster then the software, which makes a very odd experience, also yeah, not all that concerned about aesthetics, but that this is ugly as sin.
