[Merged] Motorola Droid X

IP4 will still outsell the Droids

3 million sold in three weeks, strong demand and wait list with orders being filled daily. The new droid will not catch up anytime soon- AAPL stock will continue to climb and make billions while the others play catch up.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4 (32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

You're incredibly naive if you think other handset manufacturers aren't going to benefit greatly from Antennagate.

I should have been more specific- the latest batch including the Motorola droid x

I doubt it. If someone is going to complain about the antenna non-issue then they are going to be really unhappy with all the major issues cropping up on android handsets.

Plus every iPhone 4 owner I know is ecstatic with their iPhone 4s. I know at least 40 people with one now and this bunch is pretty happy, much more so tham they were with their 3GS or 3G.

really how do you figure? They will benefit ,but it will be a short term bump and it will be those that were on the fence anyway. There is nothing to suggest that people are returning them in droves. How do you define greatly? Who do you think will get the lions share? Did you return your phone and switch? Based on the header I see you have not.

Lets do this. Invest in Motorola and I will invest even more in Apple. Lets see where we are in 6 months. The day that I walk into a Apple store and see that there is no longer a priority list and people in line to return, or that matter post receipts of the return and a new droid purchase , is the day that I will become concerned

What issues? I haven't seen CNN advising Droid owners to buy some duct tape; that admonition was reserved for iPhone 4 owners. And that kind of media coverage means a hell of a lot more than fanboys whining on a forum somewhere.

I know two people with iPhone 4s and like you said, they're both happy. On the other hand, I know about ten people who have decided to skip this one because of the reception issues - and these are people who would have most likely gotten one otherwise, people who were genuinely excited about the phone, until Antennagate, anyway.

Just check out this chart. It shows that MOT outperformed AAPL by 15% in the last 5 days. Happy investing ;)

Nice try. I live in Japan, where returns of used handsets are not allowed under any circumstances. Even if returns were allowed, I have already had this POS exchanged once, so the serial number on the phone doesn't match the one on the box, meaning I'd be screwed anyway. IOW, I'm stuck with this thing for a while. But that's ok. I'm trying to learn how to hold it correctly so that it functions normally.

Sure companies will most likely make fun of the antenna issue in their marketing and i would advise verizon to make sure they don't otherwise they will never get the iPhone.

But i don't think this will tarnish apple or the iPhones legacy. I've owned all sorts of devices from apple and other companies and everyone makes a mistake. Granted i wasn't effected by this and i know others were. But you know what at the end of the day we are only human.

Apple will not fall because of this people love the iPhone and the media has blown up apples spot with this issue. 6 Months from now it will be old news and 6 months from now Apple stock will also be at 300 or even past 300.

WOW sucks to be you. I would assume that you can sell it on Ebay. For that matter I will buy it from you, so I can resell it. If it was that bad I would assume that the Gov't would step in.

Its impossible to know the real impact on sales but I think it will be pretty severe. Consumers who dont know much about phones will be scared away from the iphone. They probably think its a really bad issue considering consumer reports wont recommend it and they keep seeing it in the news.

Not impossible time will tell. Fact is that there are still priority lists and people adding to it every day. For the record not a fan of consumer reports. It goes back to about a year ago when then recommended a pair of radio shack speakers. After that it was all over. Agree with your thesis, however do not believe it to be the case.

Nexus One had major problems with 3G connection that has not been fully addressed. Our IT will not support Nexus One's because of this issue alone. Touchscreen response issues. Other build quality issues. Poor support from Google.

Evo's have been getting terrible battery life and 4G isn't as fast as 3G. Poor wifi reception. Many reports of poor build quality. Major problems with digitizer build quality. Many reports of glass separation form screen.

Droid X has boot loader problems that bricks your device if you load a custom ROM.

Numerous software bugs, UI problem, too numerous to list.

Android in general

Poor digitizer implementation on most hardware platforms results in incorrect or inconsistent touchscreen behavior.

Major issues with platform fragmentation. Major problem that OS updates come from carriers so that if you do have software problems they typically are just not being fixed unless you root your device. Even then there are 3-5 major android versions being sold on new hardware very few of which are the current release.

If you order today, in most places the first time you will get an iPhone in your hands is 10 days minimum. In San Diego, the wait is 5 weeks.

This is bunk.

Apple said you can return it. Wait a week or two until they roll out the program, return your iPhone and move on with your life.

OP is right, the iPhone 4 will continue to sell more than any current Android offerings. The antenna problem has been highly publicized, and probably shifted a few people away who were on the fence, but Apple is Apple and it's a great phone.

Yup, I could sell it online. But then there's the issue of the 24 month contract I had to sign to get the phone. There's really not much I can do besides re-learning how to hold a phone.

It's not a matter of when sales of Android handsets will surpass Apple, it has already happened:

http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100510-713162.html

Now this is from the previous quarter, prior to the launch of the iPhone 4. Although even with the impressive sales numbers we're seeing, it wont be enough to keep Apple rising indefinitely in a rapidly expanding market. Every other manufacturer is fighting for a piece of the smartphone pie. Apple might be able to move 10-15M iPhones in a year, and it is true that HTC likely can't match those sales of a single model but they can release numerous models each selling 1-2M units. Add Motorola, LG, Samsung, Ericson, Asus, Dell, and virtually everyone else doing the same and it's not hard to see why Android will win out in th end.

Apple is heading for a repeat of their early days competing against Microsoft.
