iPhone killer this, iPhone killer that. We have been hearing it for 3 years now. It's personal preference and at the end of the day no one has touched Apple's build quality.

I can't speak to the reception issue because I don't have it.

So, really, we could post specs about phones that are pushed out really quickly and are usually lacking in many respects, but, the iPhone has still been the most impressive phone to me to date.

EDIT: Weird wording... again...

Droid X is ridiculously huge and has an annoying lump at the top. I would not want to carry that phone around, especially in my pocket. It's like a mini tablet with a bump.

I really don't like many of the Android phones, they are just big and bulky.

+1

Why does this feel like our generation's Frasier vs. Ali?

Plus android will be suffering from too many releases. I mean sheesh just last few months have the droid, incredible, evo 4, now this, not counting the droid 2. There are just so many contracts out there to be had. And then at the mercy of the phone builder and carrier to get any updates.

As long as the iphone can be jailbroke that offers customization to people that want it, and just the plain strong OS and ease of use, android has a road to climb. But it is getting better and apple better not take them for granted.

I have a friend at work who shows off his HTC phone I believe, and it has a very large screen. I never understood why you'd want a phone that large, for me it kills the whole mobile part of a mobile phone.

:D

I do get a kick out of all the droid users getting upset that a new phone comes out a month after they buy theirs. Also, all the bickering about why their droid is better than someone elses droid.

Apple makes good products but there really is too much hype, I own numerous Apple computers along with two generations of the IPhone…but will not be moving to version 4. The Android OS and the unit from Motorola compare very well against the IPhone spec wise, and if they get flash working? Well we know what that will bring...the worst thing that can happen is a move back to an iPhone down the road:)

Lol, Droid X has a 1GHz and 512mb of ram.. Wait my Nexus One already has those specs!

As for the car analogy above my post, stop it!! I HATE CAR ANALOGIES!!

"With the new antenna and reception problem of iPhone 4 surfacing, Droid X might win the competition without much effort. Droid X comes with features like the 1GHz processor and 512 MB memory that makes this smart phone fast and efficient."

What competition? Was there ever one? If there is, esp thru the eyes of Android fanbois, Apple doesn't give a hoot. All Apple does is just make a product (even if its not perfect), the masses like it, and that garners millions.

Apple provides an awesome App Store. Period. Nobody else does. That's what makes a great phone. The meat inside it.

Android is concerned about specs and numbers and is using that for their advertising. Even if they have a 10 million GHz processor with 10 billion tb of RAM but with an OS that lags behind the Apple OS even if the iPhone only runs at .5MHz processor and 12mb of RAM yet have the smoothest OS like what we have now, Android will still starve to climb that ladder.

The iPhone has stumbled into problems with the antennae. I won't apologize for that. They said they are working on the problem and maybe it'll pass. If the problem gets solved or not, I don't care. I still love my 4. It works and it works well; and if there is this so called competition, the 4 trumps all, thru my perspective. The only think that can beat the iPhone 4 is itself and its problems. So yeah, if you like specs and numbers, enjoy the Android phones and the "thought" that it is the "fastest". :p

A phone that cannot make calls is not a minor problem.

I am not having the issue, but others are, so let's not completely dismiss their concerns until there is a solution.

It doesn't make calls because every blog-reading geek now has a death grip around the antenna trying to test out what they've read.

The iPhone is superior, made of beautiful hardware and superb software.

Android won't compete until they release a polished, unified OS that isn't a mess to manuever around for the average consumer. I think they'll get there eventually and I happy they're in the game. I want Apple pushed and pushed and pushed. I'll happily go back to an Android phone the day they build the better mousetrap.

Android and android phones used to pale in comparison to the iPhone. For the last 3 years its hasn't been much of a competition.

But now, the latest crop of phones have caught up. They are now comparable. They are worse than the iPhone in some ways and better than the iPhone in some ways. For the first time, you can say its a matter of personal preference.

For the sake of brevity, and to not repeat myself, I have more notes about pros and cons of each on my blog.

Bottom line. Competition is good. Regardless if Apple or Google wins, the consumer wins.

This mass hysteria around the iPhone 4s MINOR problems needs to stop.

The EVO's effing screens are detaching and it has massive light leakage AND 4G is practically NOWHERE but Sprint charges $10 more a month for it, but there isn't a nationwide news station epidemic about that...

QFT!!!!

Sprint 4G signal is probably random at best for the moment. EVO users are using 3G most of the time.

iPhone still has the best exterior hardware, and the overall best experience. The Android Market doesn't even compare to the App Store. Jailbroken iPhone OS provides just as much flexibility as Android. iPhone also gets way better battery life.

Salient point.

Everyone can only benefit with the increased competition posed by Android and other carriers' attempts to offer viable options to the iPhone.

Fierce competition leads to breathtaking innovation at lower prices--all consumers will be better off for it.

With the problem filled launch of the iPhone 4, Apple has paved the way for a strong launch of the Droid X.

Here's an except on one reporters take on it.

lets wait and see till it's released and the problems that buzz around it :D

The main reason why apple is winning the smartphone race (and always will be winning) is because their products are branded with the apple logo.

people who aren't as tech savvy as others who want a "smartphone" will instantly remember the iPhone and spring for that before they even think about looking for a Droid phone.

That works both ways though. The big concern for Apple will not be the issues at launch day. The big concerns will be persistant issues that the media can reproduce in the weeks after lunch.

Apple has claimed they have a software update that will resolve the issue Monday. Everyone will be watching to see if that fixes the problem.

The most damaging part of the reception problem if its not resolved is its easily reproducable and everyone can easily understand the problem. If CNN, Fox, CBC, CTV, etc want to buy 10 iphones each and film the issue on each and can reproduce it everytime Apple is going to get the living crap hammered out of it in the media.

If that was true, Macs would be the most popular computers in the world. They are not. Not by a long shot. In fact, they are much less popular now than they were at the beginning of the Apple / PC race. Perhaps closed ecosystem has something to do with it.

Of all phones, use EVO 4G as a basis NOT THE DROID X.

It's motorola.....I still laugh at them.

I think people are missing the point. As much as I love love love Android OS. When i show it to a girl...she's just looks at me like..."why should i be excited about it?" They just want simple things that work. Nerds, tweakers and gadgeteers love what android brings (including myself). Do people not get that?

It's like those ELMO dolls.....i mean...really? But they sell out. LOL, for all those apple haters. Don't blame them for people waiting in lines for HOURS AND HOURS to buy their stuff. Blame the consumers. I think its really unfair for alot of apple haters to hate apple WHEN THEY AHVE DONE NOTHING TO YOU. That's the beauty of being a consumer. YOU HAVE CHOICE.

Because it really has an intuitive and smooth interface. Plus, the device is backed by Apple which has generally good customer service, so issues that spring up can be dealt by them instead of dealing with horrible customer service from the carriers (looking at you, Verizon).

And both iPhones and Android phones need unlocking/rooting to do more... I personally can't be bothered to have to micromanage the Android since I am very happy with iOS 4, but I guess that someone who spends lots of time tweaking settings can really get the best, customized experience in an Android phone.
