Really? It's a phone, not a hard drive people. After getting my 1st 32GB iPhone, i wasn't sure how I would choose from the 150GB of music + movies, photos, etc. But then I realized that I'm one of those people who sync/backup their phones all the time so it's not really a big deal. I made play lists, smart play lists & essentials. That's what I sync and I've not had any complaints.

Are you really going to listen to all that music in one sitting before the next time you sync? No.

I did however expect a bump because of the HD video. That'll take up your space. I wonder how big a 5 min video file is. Anyone have those specs?

At least we don't have to wait or go looking for a 32G microSD card for our Android phones.

I assume you are like 12 years old, right? Some people actually LISTEN to a LOT of music, not just use it as background filler. If you don't need it then fine, but that doesn't mean that others don't. So why comment at all?

Remember that Apple themselves has had a 160gb iPod available 3 YEARS AGO. So THEY even believe that people need that capacity. Some of us just want to carry around ONE multimedia device, though.

I'm sure people have a lot of music as it adds up over time.
and since when does age determine how much music you listen to?
Not everyone in my generation is obsessed with Lady Gaga.

But if you really have THAT much and NOTHING you're willing to delete then that's crazy. I for one made my itunes so that I DON'T have to spend five minutes skipping to find a good song. Let's see you do the same with your full 64GB.

Nope you are wrong. It's not a PHONE. It's a MEDIA DEVICE. It STORES STUFF, and that STUFF takes a lot of room. No, I'm not going to listen to 64GB of music a day, but I don't want to have to pre-decide what I'm listening to each morning either. That's a waste of my time and I don't even GO on my computer in the morning. I want it on my MEDIA DEVICE. I can fit it all on my 160GB iPod, and I want to replace that with the iPhone as my media device. It's that simple.

I listen to a lot of music. A lot. It is more than background to me. Let's say it's part of my every day need to live. I agree with the 12 year old. My 160GB iPod Classic is packed to the gills, as Steve would say. It's there if I need it.

Go through your itunes and make a smart play list to list all the songs you haven't listened to at all in the past 30 days...60 days...90 days. You'd be surprised.

You don't need it. You want it.

Huh? Why do you have to "skip"? I just go to the artist and album I want to play directly. It take 2 seconds. You're not making any sense. And why would I DELETE music that I own?

No, YOU'D be surprised. I listen to music about 4-6 hours a day. Public transportation, working out, walking - ALWAYS. And I listen to things I just bought about as much as music I had for 30 years. That's what people who actually LISTEN and LOVE music do.

OK ok...MEDIA DEVICE. Step off the ledge. (But the iPhone is a phone. You make phone calls. It's a phone. It says so in the name...iPhone.)

You don't have to decide every morning. If you synced once a week, you'd have plenty of variety.

Even w/ a 64GB iPHONE, you'd still have to choose from your 160GB of music, no?

Oohhh....battle for who loves music more. Really? Are you 12 years old?

4-6 hours a day of music is really not that much.

I haven't filled up my 32GB iPhone 3GS yet. I have a 120GB iPod Classic for my music, and that isn't even big enough for my collection. I'm fine with 32GB. I just switch up the music on my iPhone a lot. The best of the best.

Actually I have about 110GB of music, mostly encoded at 256 kbps. iTunes now has a feature that you can concert ON-THE-FLY conversion of whatever bit rate your music is encoded in to 128 kbps ithout affecting the original file - i.e. iTunes still has 256 kbps whereas the iPhone has 128 kbps for the same songs. So my 110GB turns into 55GB on the iPhone. So yes, it WOULD basically all fit on a 64GB phone. No decision making.

I seriously can't see how I could use up 32gb as just now I have the 16gb 3Gs and only use up around 3gb which includes all of my music, videos, pictures ect. I think if you were to have more than 32gb worth on your phone it would seem cluttered as you would have so much.

It's not like the media is in a unorganized pool of random data for you to sort through to find. It's organized by artist / album / song, or by series name / season / show for TV video. It takes no time to find anything.

Very disappointed at the 32GB limit

I too am very disappointed that there is only a 32GB limit. Sucks to down size in media to make room for HD videos. Makes no sense in introducing new high end technology that takes up room on older sized hardware. No sense! I love my iPhone but with each release there is always disappointment. First copy and paste, then multi-tasking, now lack of space. 32GB is fine for those that only own 2 albums. But for those of us that really enjoy our multimedia, size does matter!

Chances of a 64GB iPhone 4

Sorry if its already been asked.

I know that no one can say really, but what are your thoughts on weather Apple will release a 64GB version soon after the iPhone 4.

Now with a better camera, and HD Video along with editing 64GB seems sensible.

Are they able to fit this in but just holding off for a while?

ajo

No they won't. The iPhone has one space for memory not like the iPod touches 2 slots.

64gb chips are very expensive so 32gb will be the max.

Thanks

I forgot about the iPod Touch having 2 chips against the iPhone having 1

I didnt know weather technology had improved enough to fit 64GB in the same space for not much more cost.

Maybe a little more time

In fact, the technology has improved enough, and the 64GB chips have entered volume production. I guess it depends on what your definition of "soon" is. 64GB will definitely be offered in the next iPhone refresh, I would say its only a question of whether they increase capacity in the middle of this cycle to keep things fresh. But next 6 months I think that you are 99% in the clear.

I'm not sure a 64GB version will be available even in the next phone. If the rumours are true that Apple is moving more and more towards cloud based content, then there really isn't a need for huge storage on device. Of course there will be those that want music, movies and such directly on the device, but 32GB is a lot of space - granted I would love to have 64GB like my iPad.

I don't think they will either. And like you, I think it is the cost. Apple seems to want to keep the subsidized pricing at $199/$299.
