As the iPhone advances, so will games, meaning larger sizes. Especially with a higher display, easily means apps, games and videos will be larger. You need space to carry around alot of games.

True, but again, even if the largest iPhone games jump from the current 100mb to 500mb, that is only a handful, and also how many games are you going to play at one time -- maybe two, three. That's 1.5GB. Most gamers either get bored w/ a game b/c it's too easy or hard or they complete it. Those games get kicked off. Same goes for videos. I think a lot of people just like to fill up their devices b/c they can, not because of any real practicality.

Also, as said, developers are going to develop games that the most # of units can use. They are not going to develop games specifically for a 64GB model because only a small % of iPhone owners would have that model. The development cost to profit return would be tiny. What you are suggesting is a couple generations out.

There are a lot of games that come in well over 200MB. Heck, Myst is almost 1GB! Plus, you now have games like Guitar Hero that come with just a few songs but you can buy in-ap purchases of new songs which will make them grow in size pretty quickly.

But independent of olf whether you need 64GB for GAMES (you don't), many of us DO need it for MEDIA. It's a ridiculous argument to say that no one needs it because YOU don't need it. There are a LARGE NUMBER of people that both need it and want it - the people who DON'T need it or want it are irrelevant to that discussion.

Apple didn't put out a 64GB iPhone 4 not because there wasn't the interest from consumers to have it, but because it was impractical right now from a supply and cost standpoint for 64GB NAND modules. Too short of supply at too high of a cost. It probably wan't doable even at a $399 subsidized price point. Either that or they were trying to save a feature for iPhone 5 (probably a combination of both).

Assuming that 64GB NAND module prices come down next year and suppy goes up (which is a reasonable assumption), we most certainly will se a 64GB iPhone next year. It's a long shot that we see a 128GB iPod Touch this year, but it certainly is POSSIBLE given that supply will probably ramp up by September and that the number of Touch's sold is far less than iPhones.

I agree, which is why I did not make that argument. It's ridiculous to say I did. In my initial post I did say I personally was not interested in a 64gb model because that is what OP asked. I did not make the leap that b/c I wasn't interested no one else should be either.

In my other replies were in response to other poster's comments, I didn't not factor in my personal requirement, but rather noted the practicality and reality of the marketplace.

Oops - Even though I quoted you, I meant that other "YOU" to be a more generalized statement against all those who speak out AGAINST a 64GB phone because they don't need it. I didn't mean that statement to be about you, although it came across that way.

It would be great if Apple reinstated streaming music through the internet in iTunes. This would definitely alleviate my desire for a 64 gb iPhone.

I wouldn't mind having a cloud based option from Apple to stream my library, but in no way do I want this to REPLACE the capacity requirements of the phone itself.

I for one want my music stored ON MY PHONE ITSELF for a lot of reasons. The most obvious is that the consistency of AT&T 3G service sucks big time even in big cities (well ESPECIALLY in big cities), and if I have to rely on a consistent 3G signal in order to play music while I drive or take public transportation, forget it - I'm in and out of signal continuously, especially going underground in trains or in elevators, etc. Secondly, in terms of quality, there is no way that Apple or AT&T would allow or even be able to handle steaming even at 128 kbps, and most of my library is ABOVE that quality (mostly 256 kbps). Lastly, I'm sure that they would parse out embedded song file data like song lyrics in the stream, although that's not definite.

No no, I want more on-phone storage!

Are you so blind that you can't see the iPhone is more than a phone? It is an all in one device and as such needs a lot of memory.

You should consider learning sarcasm or reading past a certain line.

I said,
I love it when people say(hint: that's sarcasm) "You don't need a 64GB's of space. IT'S A PHONE!!!" (You see how I put that in quotes, that means I'm quoting someone else) The lines between phone and music player have been blurring since they made Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, and with the iPhone out, it has become my sole music player. (And that is where I dispute people saying "IT'S A PHONE!!!"-Note the quotes again)

And I can see in this thread, a lot of people didn't know what I was really saying.

Apple showed you the guts. I'd much rather manage my music to 32GB than sacrifice battery dimensions. There is just no way to fit two chips.

Putting two chips in the phone was never an option and is not what people are talking about here. They are talking about putting a single 64GB NAND chip in the phone. They do exist from multiple manufacturers, but currently expensive and in limited supply.

The "Its a phone" argument is old and tiring. The reason I got the iPhone was so I would not have to carry around two devices anymore. I use to have an iPod and a Blackberry, so the obvious choice was getting an iPhone since I knew I loved my touch.

And to top it off, if they want people to take the iPhone seriously as a gaming device, they need to up it to 64GB. How can one device be a phone, gaming system, HD Video Recorder, Camera, App User, video watcher, book reader and Music Device if they don't give you enough space to do all of that.

We'll get there. I was hoping that a 64GB iPhone would be available this year, alas it is not. Next year then.... It will be interesting to see how much memory the 720p video recording will be consuming. That could eat into those 32GB pretty fast.

Add me to the list of people who wanted a 64GB iPhone 4, and I won't be upgrading because they're not offering one. I would have paid the extra $100 for the hard drive space. But I'll stick with my 32GB 3GS for now since I don't want to waste the subsidized upgrade on the off chance a 64GB iPhone 4 comes out in a few months.

I have to manually sync up my music collection (which is a pain when I rip new music) and have had to leave over a third of my music off my iPhone, I have to make hard choices about which photos and apps I sync, and I can't put any movies on my iPhone. Plus, I have to disable caching on my iPhone by apps like Slacker, which would come in handy but uses up precious storage space.

Yeah, it's primarily a phone (AT&T permitting), but I don't want to have to carry six different devices around with me. I thought the buzzword of the 21st century was "convergence," so why can't I have something in my pocket that also takes pictures, plays movies, holds my entire music collection, allows me to check e-mail and surf the Internet, entertains me with games when I'm bored and also makes phone calls?

So when do you think we will see a 64 GB or even 1 TB iPhone?

So i know there was alot of disappointment because alot of people wanted a 64 GB iPhone this year. So i was thinking that it would be great to have a 100 GB or even 1 TB iPhone.

So do you guys think at some point we will ever see one? Or do you think the max apple may go to eventually will be 64 GB?

And welcome to WWDC 2020.
Last year, we revolutionised the mobile industry, and introduced a 64GB iPhone. This year, we're going one better. Introducing the new 65GB iPhone.

/sarcasm

1 Terabyte? That's not 100gb, that's 1000.

Like the above, may not ever happen because of clouds.

You'll be long gone by then...

It would be a bitch to sync 1TB of iTunes onto your iPhone.

"I'm updating my playlist, I'll see you two Thursdays from now..."

The reason i asked about the 1TB lol or even higher storage space is that since Unlimited data is pretty much gone. And eventually those of us that have it will lose it eventually.

Having 200-300 GB's of music and content in the cloud would use lots of data to stream and access.
