Captivate is a bad ass phone.. I would take it over any Iphone any day of the week. Not that great? it's as powerful as an Iphone 4 and you can do flash.. And the biggest thing of all.. Samsung unlike Apple still make quality products and Sammy don't B/S the customer like that fruit. The Samsung will be more reliable, and overall better phone. It is made right and made to work well. Samsung have the technology to stay up with Apple, and the Samsung is a superior product over Iphone 4 in qualuty and performance and a little less **** to smell owning and Apple and dealing with Apple. Apple have the Retina screen.. I will give that, hands down the best display out... but lets compare Iphone 4 and Captivate pound for pound... It's another story

Samsung have terrible quality control and the Captivate is a laggy, bug ridden mess. Have fun waiting for your updates or rooting your phone just to get acceptable performance.

Dude you need to get a life. you actually went digging around the android forums to find a bunch of crap so you could call someone else's phone a "laggy bug ridden mess?" If you like your phone so much and think its the best thing since sliced bread, why do you even give a crap about a different phone? If people for whatever reason like the captivate better than ip4, does that screw u p your enjoyment of your phone? Does your phone start to suck? wtf is wrong with you?????

He's an Apple fan...he has to validate his purchase ;)

I have a great life thanks. It took 5 minutes to pull those up and I knew about them because I wanted a Captivate until I researched it in those forums and online then tried one for a day. Nice try though. Why don't you get a life instead of jumping down my throat.

Playing with an Android phone for a limited time in a shop has its limitations. Android 2.1, although improved, is not as refined as iOS4, and people could have messed with a LOT of functions in it in a shop. For most people the lag is caused by improperly written apps & widgets that are installed or partially installed that may be running. Its best with Android OS to do a factory reset and install your apps one at a time. Yes, its not as refined as iOS, but it can work quite well. With Android 2.2 and then 3.0, the Galaxy S phones will work more smooth. The only caveat is Samsung's support is no where near as good as Apple's. They have a habit of introducing new products and drop support for older ones pretty fast and that includes all products including phones. Fortunately, a smart phone is only good for 2-3 years maximum.

Incorrect. I almost returned my iPhone for a Captivate to try something different. That is of course until I read about it on those forums and other spots online.

riiiight. I bet there are more negative bad posts about ip4 just on this single website alone than everything you can find online for captivate. You still bought an iphone didnt you?

You dont even own a captivate, you dont want one, you already made up your mind that iphone is the best. What difference does it make to you if captivate is a good smartphone? Why do you feel the need to keep trashing the captivate?

You based this off 10 minutes at an att store? Wow what a way to give it an honest chance

Yeah spend more than 10 minutes.. it's not like there was a LINE waiting to check out the phone.

I am sure he was the only one that whole afternoon. I suggest he bring a lawn chair the next time.

You make some good points. Perhaps I've been a bit hypocritical and unfair.

I'll shut up. ;)

I'm no die hard Apple fan. I'll ditch this phone the day I feel something much better comes out. I was hoping to like the Captivate more. I'm in the mood for something different like Android just to tinker. Just frustrated that there aren't more to choose from on AT&T.

I'd actually like both an android device and iPhone 4. I just don't feel the Captivate is worth it's retail price.

The problem isn't just with reading text. Anything I would do felt like I was looking through a mesh screen to do it. Even on the white background of a web page, I could see pixels in it. I could also see the pixel structure in pictures.

Like looking through a mesh screen? What does a 3GS screen look like then? A cheesegrater?
  • 3GS: 163 pixels per inch, 320x480 resolution, 200:1 contrast ratio
  • Captivate: 233 pixels per inch, 480x800 resolution, 50,000:1 contrast ratio
  • iP4: 326 pixels per inch, 640 960 resolution, 800:1 contrast ratio

Sure the iP4 has higher PPI, but unless you're looking at the phones under a microscope you're not going to see it. The 3GS screen still looks pretty good and the Captivate's screen is higher res than the 3GS. If you say you can see the individual pixels, you must really hate the Macbook screens with their 110-130 ppi resolution.

With that said, what you *can* see is the Captivate's superior black levels that no iPhone can match.

How did I get CAPTIVATED? I'll tell you.

I bought my iphone 4 on launch day. I didn't pre-order, I was first in line at walmart. This walmart only had 1 iphone 4 and i stood in one spot for 2 hours waiting for the wireless dept. to open. Many people walked up, more people called, but their only iphone 4 was sold to me.

Yes I was excited to get the iphone 4, it was my third iphone and it was the best of all. BUT Apple's actions soured me on the iphone, please take note, it was Apple's actions not the antenna or proximity sensor that made me switch to the SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE.

On the first day I realised the iphone 4 was a better phone than the CAPTIVATE.

On the second day I understood why Steve Jobs and Apple were so afraid of Google and Android. Once you get over the learning curve there are no limits to Android. I was concerned about defragmentation, but google is advancing in leaps and bounds, while Apple now gives new features only once a year.

Peace.

I have the Samsung Vibrant. First few days I kind of liked it. Now I can't stand it. I can't think of one way it's better than the iPhone. In fact, the whole os feels like a poor mans iPhone.

i hope you are under 12 years old

otherwise you are a useless tool

You posted this here why?

I swear, these forums have gone to ****. It's a sad state of affairs. Too many teeny boppers floating around.

I kept one for 3 days... the music program had "glitches" that made it unacceptable. Android is fine, but when you try to sync with Macs- you have a hassle.

The one problem that prevented me from switching to android right now is the screen resolution. When you open a web page you can not read the print on the screen unless you tap it to make it bigger. While on the iPhone 4 even with a small screen I can read all the txt, as soon as the new gingerbread handsets come out if they use the 1280 x 760 then I am getting one.

I can not justify returning a phone that I can see the web page when it first loads (much fast) for one that requires an extra step. :D

but you were ok with iphone 3g/3gs low res screen even though the nexus one was available and had a much higher res screen?

You're a noob user. Enable USB debugging and you'll be able to mount your Captivate to a Mac computer just fine.

Tried that and it still didnt work with my mbp!! Kept getting Mtp synchronization problem... Who wants go to settings, go to sync and press usb debugging to sync your phone, or pull down the tab and hit usb connection just to mount? thats unnecessary. But thats how Android is. Had the Nexus One and the Evo and I'm a noob Android user
