They want a phone that does relatively straightforward tasks that can be accomplished out of the box.
Like making a phone call? I've dropped nearly 50% of my phone calls. Not very straight forward. I do like the HD camera though.

OK. Jamarcus russel has 50 excellent devs working to improve his performance on a daily basis. Drew brees has a few known devs working to Unlock that hidden speed (jailbreak and unlock baseband) without the NFL (apple) finding out about the steroid use and suspending him (voiding warranty).
- Android OS isn't mature yet
Most of the popular apps I tried were either not compatible with the phone or they looked like crap. They are not as beautiful working and looking as the worst app in the Apple App Store. Scrolling isn't as smooth which is sad since it has the fastest CPU processor available to man-kind at the moment.
There are a lot of things I genuinely like about the Android-based phones, inclusive of the Droid and Evo. But the whole package just feels....fragmented and "under construction" to me.
you can only enter the business in one way, and that's to enter the business.
apple wasn't always a software company, they used to have microsoft make all of their software at first. but yet, you're loyal to apple now and not microsoft. why not use windows mobile?
basing a product sheerly by the company that releases it is not fair.
i use an iphone, i love my iphone. I've used an android phone, and I was very impressed by it. I like my iPhone more, but to be honest I think it's only because I'm used to it. I can definitely see the appeal in android phones, and I wouldn't really mind if I was for some reason forced to switch over to one.
And you know, not that this has anything to do with this conversation directly.
But, Apple was angry that Google came over into the Mobile Phone business. Right? Saying they didn't enter the search engine business, la la la.
But Apple hasn't been making cell phones for that long, and it's an obvious thing to do. Cell phones are all over the world right now, it's not like everyone is crazed over a search engine. Everyone uses a cell phone, and it's a device that they always have with them so it's obvious to make that of most any product, as a multi-tasker.
Sharp, Samsung, HTC, Motorola never entered the business of making computers, yet Apple has the right to enter the business of cellular devices.
Just sounds hypocritical to me.
But anyway.
Droid is nice. So is iPhone.
There are a lot of things I genuinely like about the Android-based phones, inclusive of the Droid and Evo. But the whole package just feels....fragmented and "under construction" to me. Nothing works as seamlessly as it does on the iPhone and the UI is pretty much the wild west for app developers with even some of the basic menu's not always being intuitive and easy to use. It represents a world that lacks many standards and those that do exist are more like "suggested guidelines."
Apple may rule their OS with an iron fist, but that at least ensures a consistent and polished overall user experience. Even the fart apps feel more finished!
The problem with Android is that it was designed and coded to run on as wide an array of hardware as possible. This means that no Android phone uses hardware acceleration on the UI elements. Doing both the loading and graphics processing on the single processor cores in today's cell phones makes the interface appear to lag.
iOS on the other hand was designed to run on specific hardware, meaning it can take advantage of all the features and extra instructions of the cpu to improve speed. Since Apple's hardware engineers work together with the software engineers the phone is already being optimized, not being optimized by third parties after it is released. Jailbreaking does not try make your phone faster, it just tries to make it more open.
I know that everything you said about the EVO is real because it's your personal experience, but I couldn't help but think that an EVO fan would probably reply by saying that at least you could make a phone call with the EVO.I was one of the first in line to get an HTC EVO. For the first couple of weeks I was content. But thats when things started to go sour.
- Dust under the screen
I've had the phone for about a week and it already had dust in the upper left hand corner. With some searching on some EVO forums, apparently this is very common with not only the EVO but also the HTC Hero. Thats just unacceptable. My Palm Pre which I used for 1 year didn't have any dust at all under the screen.
- LCD screen quality
When compared with the iPhone 4, the colors look bland and washed out. For those of you who are familular with LCD technology, IPS is the best type due to the beautiful colors it can produce. Typical cell phone LCD screens are made of a cheaper kind of LCD called TN which that EVO uses. I have one of the better version of the LCD screen. I got lucky and received a 003 screen which has deeper black colors and accurate colors. However, when comparing it to the iPhone 4's screen, it looks like crap.
- Laggy screen responce
HTC decided to cap video to 30fps, but this is also affecting screen input. When you type too quick, the letters will not catch causing you to mispell words. I tried typing as fast as I could on the iPhone 4 and didn't miss one letter.
- Sprints 4G is over rated
I live in a city where 4G has been present for over a year and its not all its cracked up to be. I barely get above 3 megs at most and on average saw about 2 megs. I traveled to other 4G citities and saw about the same. I doubt Sprint will improve this since they can't even get their 3G network right.
- Battery life is terrible
I do light web surfing and text messaging here and there. I take it off the charger at 8a and by the time its for bed at 11p, its almost all drained. Thats what 4G, GPS, Bluetooth all turned off. And I manually end tasks of any programs running in the background periodically. I don't know why they included Sprint TV since it drains about 1% every 1 minute.
- Cheap feel
The whole phone is made of plastic except for the stand which looks like its made of stainless steel. The phone doesn't feel as solid as the iPhone... heck, any iPhone for that matter. I compared this with my friends iPhone 4GB 1G, and his phone is more solid feel then the EVO.

If their wasn't an iPhone 4, I would still keep my HTC EVO since it is the best phone out right now in my humble opinion. I like the LED notifications and live backgrounds. But those aren't enough to keep me. In the end the HTC EVO was fun, but its time for a better phone. iPhone 4, here I come.
I know that everything you said about the EVO is real because it's your personal experience, but I couldn't help but think that an EVO fan would probably reply by saying that at least you could make a phone call with the EVO.
I mean, that is the biggest problem with apple/at&t, no? And that is a big problem. In fact, the most important function of a phone is the make calls not internet, facetalk, etc.
Lots of us with the iPhone 4 are having no trouble making calls. Mine has been able to stay connected in several spots where my 3GS would drop every time. The reception hasn't been an issue for me at all.
This is the issue... The people having this problem want to believe it is a much bigger problem than it really is.
You get pissed off talking about phones? Jeez man. Really?
My buddy has 128 GB of storage space on his phone. How? He has 4 Memory cards which he keeps INSIDE his battery case. Pretty sweet mod, if you ask me. One card has movies, another has music, another has WinPE and other tools for his work, and lastly one is his daily driver. It's ridiculous. I've seen him boot his home PC via RDP with WinPE from his phone. Definitely cool.
From what I understand, the 3G issue was software based - which has been fixed for the most part. There are still those people with crappy 3G coverage that are complaining, but that's not Google's problem.
Screen issues? What screen issues? My friend has a nexus and with cyanogen's mod his phone is faster than my iphone from apps to browsing. He has never complained of screen issues. I can only imagine how much FASTER his phone will get with Froyo once Cyanogen gets his hands on it.
Lets be honest -- The Devs on Android are bar none better than Devs on iPhone. While iPhone devs are trying to figure out HOW to unlock an iPhone, Android devs are slipstreaming devices and making them quicker, smoother, and unlocking internal hardware to add features (i.e. Nexus one's 720p recording).
You dont consider 32% of iPhone's having this issue a big deal? Its a HUGE deal. If it were 2-5% then yes, not a big concern, but 32%?

I'm a somewhat of an Android proponent but I completely agree with these comments.
Android merely provides guidelines for developers, and too few at that. Apple doesn't give a choice. Developers must do it a certain way or else.
I think either approach goes too far. As you said, Android feels like the wild west, anarchy, no rule of law, just mob justice. But iPhone feels like 1984 dictatorship, controlling your every move. Approving what you're allowed to see and not see.
I wish there was a middle ground. Freedom with well defined rules that must be followed.
We'll see how each develops over time.
I'd loooooooooooove to see where you got that number from. Enlighten me with your extremely valid source.
Got my Evo today ! Must say I'm glad I made the switch. Given the new issues with the iphone cameras. My plan is cheaper no data caps and I love the screen size. Much for fun playing Homerun 3D on that 4.3 inch screen. Did some research and found the battery issue is due to all the different features running. Made some adjustments battery lasted 14 hours off the charger ! Thanks for all the help to the posters with actual info. Thanks to the haters who have no true knowledge of anything and only know how to make 5th grade comments. I returned the iphone after 2 hours because it couldn't perform it's main purpose which is making calls right. Simple as that. Guess small minds can't comprehend the simple things.

rookie1082, you're the classic example of the android user (though you claim to own an iphone?) who just doesn't get it. You talk about iphone users being "brainwashed" into using a device with "inferior specs" and less ability to be modded to do strange things like remotely boot a PC.
Sorry, it actually said as many as 28-32%
