So like, do I have to do my activation in the AT&T Store? Or will they just give me my phone tomorrow at 7am and I can go home and do it myself? I really don't want some AT&T employee laying his or her hands on my phone before I do.

They have to do it in store :(

I know how you feel.

Last year when I got my iPhone 3G at an Apple Store, I drove all the way across 3 cities to get it and the stupid 'Genius' at the Genius Bar first dropped my new iPhone so he gave me a new one :) BUT he got his nasty paw-prints all over it.

out for delivery and almost here!!!

Well then maybe I'll just have to unbox it right there in the store, before they activate it.

they technically didn't mess anything up yet...its thursday.

Your right its Thursday and my phone according to UPS is still in Hong Kong. Just spoke the supervisor again and she says her information shows they still have not departed yet. Granted it still may not be Apple's fault but whats UPS gonna give me "Free shipping on some package somewhere"?

You can, but then, they have to get their nasty hands all over it.

Just imagined what they touched before that.

Story Time!:

Okay, you're walking out the AT&T store with your new iPhone full of fingerprints and crap. All the sudden, you go to make a call, and realize something. Your iPhone smells like crap. You look in the window of the AT&T store and see the guy with his hand in his pants.

That's a completely likely story.

umm no. activation is done on itunes. thats what 3 att reps and 2 apple reps told me

Yeah but you can't leave the store with an 'Unlocked' iPhone.

They put all of your SIM data on it.

Then, you activate it with your Carrier when you get on iTunes.

That is the most disturbing new iPhone story I have ever heard.

I attempted to start a thread concerning 3G S activation, but the people who responded to the thread shot it down. I'll post in it just to resurrect it. A lot of buyers this time around, including myself, have never owned an apple product or activated an iPhone, so a thread concerning it seems necessary, or at least will lower someone's anxiety.
