UPS likely can't find it because they don't actually have the phones yet. AT&T likely just got tracking numbers all lined up to go.

I have two orders, one for me and one for my wife, and on both orders it has the tracking number. Neither worked yet, but I'm assuming they'll be picked up today to start the shipping process.

Here's an odd observance, though: Before, there were two items listed on each order - the iPhone, and the Freight. Now, one order shows just the iPhone, and the other shows just the freight! I'm sure there's just something in the way that the site is updating while the products are in shipping-limbo. Here's a couple of screen captures so you can see what I'm talking about.

Got tracking #

Just received email from Apple. Shipping UPS with tracking # and deliver by June 19th. Ordered after WWDC and standard shipping. Shipment is direct from China (see Tracking Data)

Again

With past History in mind Fedex will deliver on the 19th So it might get to say the the New York hub or your city on Wednesday but it will sit there at Fedex till Friday! My guess though Fedex will screw up here and there and deliver a few early. that said the time for the new phone is only days away!

Order placed at Apple.com on June 8th still labeled as "Not yet shipped", is this an att.com thing only or have people gotten tracking #'s for Apple.com orders too?

Got my tracking number, I am going to start a new thread about it. :p This one will be under forums/iphonenews/iphone/3gs/neworder/haveatrackingnumber/southeast/nameendinginM/fromapple.com/confirmed.

Its easy to find.

I wonder when the pre-orders from ATT will ship to the stores?

According to an AT&T Representative, the headquarters get their shipment from Apple this Wednesday and from there they will either (a) ship to the stores or (b) ship to customers.

so they should ship today or tomorrow and be at stores wednesday?

No, I’m saying AT&T is supposed to get that at their distribution center(s) on Wednesday and then ship to the stores (for arrival to stores on Thursday) or to customers (I was told if this was the case AT&T would use 2-day shipping instead of overnight to save costs and prevent early delivery).

hummmm. I pre-ordered on the 12th and mine hasn't shipped yet...:(

I pre-ordered through att.com on the 9th about an hour or so after they started taking online orders and mine isn’t showing a tracking number either. I figure I’m good though if people that ordered on the 12th are getting tracking numbers because it means I’ll surely get mine on Friday!

Shipping from China??????????????????/

Wow, I figured they'd already be here in some centralized warehouse. Do they fly them over...they must. boat would take too long.

Wonder how many iPhones they could put on a 747??

I ordered a pair of Apple In-Ear Headphones last week. They shipped from China and arrived in two days (using the standard shipping). I think Apple's got their shipping department pretty well optimized. :)

Maybe it’s all a façade and their coming from a local distribution center but they just don’t want us to know?
