Oops I posted in the other thread. I didn't see this one first. I will post my response again.
My husband and I ordered 2 phones at the same time on 6/9 through AT&T at the store. A 16GB and 32GB. I just checked the status and the 16GB has a UPS tracking number (not in the UPS system yet because it probably hasn't been picked up) and the 32GB is still in progress with no tracking number. It is not backordered either. I expect that the 32GB will probably have a tracking sometime today since when I checked last night they both didn't have tracking #'s yet.

mine shows exactly the same except it was shipped on 6/13. Kinda had me worried that the phone line had disappeared but now it makes sense. tracking number doesn't work as of yet for me either
I heard it was all being shipped the same priority. They were supposed to refund you if you paid for shipping so once you see your status change and its not 2 day, call for your money back
They have a release sheet for UPS also... just printed it out. Same procedure as for the FedEx sheet.
I'm starting to think we will get them early. Think about it, the SW will be out on Wednesday, the 17th, and my Apple order doesn't say delivered "on" the 19th, it says "by" the 19th. So I am thinking we will get deliveries starting Wed, and continuing through Friday maybe based on order date, maybe totally random. Maybe they are hedging their free shipping on "by" the 19th, but a lot of us could see them sooner since 3.0 will be out Wednesday. I really don't see UPS holding all of these phones. If it has a tracking number, that baby is shipping.
Plus, imagine all the pub people getting it on Wed would do to make the lines big on Friday. The prehype would be much higher if you had the notion that others already have one.

they released 3.0 on wednesday to take the load off their servers for friday.. we will not see our iPhones until friday

We'll see. Especially if this is UPS' first foray with Apple. They might just deliver them.
They leave China in bulk shipments and end up in a customs free zone somewhere in the US where they are cleared, then they are broken down into individual shipment at the central FedEx and UPS locations. It may be that "standard shipments" are using UPS and more expedited shipments are using FedEx ? Regardless, I would imagine 99% of all those Apple Store orders will be delvered by the 19th with some earlier.
I can use gmail (just sent an email, in fact) and I ordered a white 16gb 3gs at AT&T on friday 6/12. I have a tracking number that is not yet active.
I ordered my 16gb from the AT&T store on June 10th and I now have a tracking number on the freight section (phone line disappeared) but still says In Progress. I'd imagine at the end of the day or tomorrow morning everything will be settled out for people who pre-ordered early and we'll know when they'll come in for sure (granted those of us who ordered in store have to wait anyways )

Has anybody who ordered from AT&T for home delivery -- specifically from Premier -- gone from Backordered to something else that would indicate that the phone is at least being prepared to ship?
Yep, same thing here. And the only reason I'm worried about it is because everyone here is worried about it, hah.
