The fact that by default you can see your real world periphery is either a statement of usage intent or a cash grab to upsell you a face gasket. But since this is already $1500 I'd guess the former. EDIT:

VR has such a hill to climb, that this (and Apple's) need to be marketed as a
real monitor replacement. You have pass-through cameras which show your environment and you get to enjoy a 100" floating 'screen' in front of you. Or 3D floating windows and gesture control alongside traditional keyboard and mouse inputs to enhance how people currently use computers.
But all these demos just look what they are - fake and contrived. The avatar environment seems awful too. Even if it's just in the home where people don't mind so much about looking like a doofus, it could really change peoples workflow but no company is making a convincing argument yet.
