I like how Zuckie bashes the Vision Pro like the two products are even in the same category.
one costs a single car payment. One costs multiple months house payments.
And it does 70% of what the vision pro is announced to do. At 7th the cost.
I'm not a fan of Meta. But the same people interested in this product are interested in the vision. It will be much more accessible to more people.
One is a Ferrari and the other is a Corvette.
They are both going to be noteworthy products. But this headset will take some of the Vision pros market share. There is no doubt about that. It’s 100% on apples radar. And like I stated. Much more accessible for purchase by many more people.
I have no doubt the vision pro will sell well. It’s mostly for gamers.
The Apple headset is pushed at a different demographic. But the meta quest will undoubtedly support similar features and use cases.
Just being pragmatic.

That's a crappy headline. Skirting false equivalency.
One is a corvette and the other a Ferrari. There are obvious equivalencies. Outside the oled and transparency features I assume this will do much of what the Vision pro does with apps and UI with vision OS to macOS and the Quest does to windows.
They are both in the conversation clearly because very few items like them in that category share use cases.
No doubt the vision is a much better performer. But with a very new and early eco system where the meta system has had a long time to grow.

That's why Apple stuff succeeds where others fail. They think all they need to do is throw hardware at a problem and it's done.
I wouldn’t say that. Without the adoption and success of systems like the Meta Quest Apple wouldn’t even have had the idea to make one. We should be happy devices like this exist to push Apple and other companies into innovation and healthy business. Apple needed and needs to compete to drive innovation.

I have skin in both companies so I hope both do well in their respective markets. You can see the reason for the price difference.

Meta 2 displays x 2064 x 2208 = 9,114,624 pixels
Apple = 23 million pixels

I’m not sure what the resolving power of the human eye is but if there is a noticeable difference, it will likely make for a different experience.

Meta's will probably be ok for entertainment and "big screen computing" purposes. And that's about all. There's much more to AR than that.

🤔
The Quest 3 sound great until you see the ‘Asgard's Wrath 2’ Quest 3 commercial… when they cut to gameplay footage — OMG early 2000s 😵‍💫

You mean Meta Quest 3 right, because the Meta 2 display is around 1830 x 1900 per eye.

Ha. That game looks phenomenal compared to one of the most popular games. Take a little peak at Gorilla Tag for a laugh. That’s the only thing my son plays… though it’s been sitting on the charger for about 6 months straight now.

I hate to burst your bubble, but they are absolutely the same catagory. I am an Analyst. Even Apple would have evaluated ALL other companies headsets and currently still do. No doubt Apple will be the first to purchase for evaluation.

And what is the "more" exactly? What justifies the extra $3000 over the Quest 3? I truly want to know so please educate me, because Apple hasn't explained it well enough to me to want a Vision Pro.

I actually prefer Google Glasses for AR with data overlays and HUD features, something non-intrusive I could wear and go about my daily business without looking like Robocop or Cyclops from X-men. Too bad Google Glasses was discontinued.

Version 1.0 of iPad was almost immediately obsoleted. Airpods Max 1.0 similarly turned out to be a major design flop. There wasn't very much "Pro" about the first iPhone Pro.

1.0 Apple products tend to be mediocre. Wait at least until 2.0.

This is a cheap plastic toy compared to Vision Pro.
You say that like people don't LOVE cheap plastic toys...

Apples hardware is tits. It's purpose is TBD. I want one but probably won't buy it unless it's to speculate what it might be worth is 20y unopened ... which is trendy now and so probably wont ever be that valuable

I like that Apple makes their money upfront and doesn’t push you to games / social experiences to recoup the margin. I enjoy solitary computing and content consumption. However, Meta have walked back the avatar drive metaverse a lot. I have a quest 3 on order and that should help put VP in perspective. At least there’s a 30 day return window.
Apple probably makes more money from predatory monetization in videogames than any other company on earth.
Meta isn't recouping enough money from their 30% cut to make a profit, and I doubt they get enough personal information about your Beat Saber routine to sell to advertisers and recoup their costs.

No thanks I'm waiting for my Vision Pro.
Oh, not me. I'm not waiting. I put in my pre-order for the Meta Quest 3 (512GB) as soon as I got the email. Actually I was driving when I got the email, so I waited until I was in the car line at my kids' school to place the order. My credit card called me right back to say they had denied the charge, so I told them it was really me. Then I updated the order with Meta and my unit is scheduled to arrive October 10, when I'll be out of the country...

This will replace my current VR headset, an Oculus Go.

And early next year, my Meta Quest 3 will become my kids' Meta Quest 3, so they don't pester me to use my Apple Vision Pro!

To be fair it’s a much better buy, vr is made for gaming, the vision pro doesn’t have a market yes it’s Apple and we love the eco system but it’s really just to extend your screens and game on a 2d virtual tv, the guest 3 is much cheaper and gaming is a big focus. Still don’t get the hype for vision pro what can you really do on it
Of course you still don’t get ”what you can really do on it” because it isn’t out yet. But in truth, you actually COULD get an idea of what it’s for if you watched the keynote with an open mind instead of a closed one.

Educate us closed minded simpletons. What exactly is the use case for a $3500 headset that has no controllers and requires an external battery pack?

And why is that use superior to what already exists? I’m struggling to imagine a family buying 5 of these to watch a virtual TV.
