You can't ignore cost. That's like saying take the cost out of first class, it's much more comfortable than flying economy. But not everyone flies first class.Take the cost out of it, it works great with the Apple ecosystem and has one of the best displays out there. And thats why I am going to buy one. Who needs a killer feature, what must have killer feature do any of these other headsets have? I can't think of a single one.
āis a Nintendoā lol what? Try making an actual point.
In the demo today, Meta showed apps which are persistently in your physical space. Theyāre very clearly trying to copy the āspatial computingā concept. What makes AVP that much different?
What can AVP do that MQ3 canāt? AVP just seems like a higher-end MQ3 that runs iOS
Itās basically iPadOS vs Android, but for your eyes.
Iād say the analogy is wrong. Itās not business vs economy, but flying on an airplane vs on a autogyro prototype. Of course, many people couldnāt afford taking an airplane on the early days, but no one took the autogyro, no matter how cheap it was.You can't ignore cost. That's like saying take the cost out of first class, it's much more comfortable than flying economy. But not everyone flies first class.
Even with, "it works great with the Apple ecosystem and has one of the best displays out there", that isn't enough to justify $3500. It simply is not and I need a much better reason before I consider this Apple Vision toy.
YesYou mean Meta Quest 3 right, because the Meta 2 display is around 1830 x 1900 per eye.
I think that's right. Apple is trying to position their VR headset as a new human computer interface, which competes with and is better than any - any - monitor setup.Pretty easy if you follow the tech news. AVP is a true spatial computer while Quest 3 is a Nintendo that try to be a computer.
Yup - the whole thing is full of this flawed thinking - it's supposed to make the goggles less creepy but manages to make them more creepy - and it comes at a crazy amount of engineering effort / cost.Hopefully Apple will cut vision headset costs by leaving out pretty pointless EyeSight feature
How can you say such a thing?Take the cost out of it, it works great with the Apple ecosystem and has one of the best displays out there. And thats why I am going to buy one. Who needs a killer feature, what must have killer feature do any of these other headsets have? I can't think of a single one.
I think business be a hard sell for Apple, but it really depends on what developers step up to the plate. Meta has Microsoft developing for it. XBOX streaming games + office.Quest 3 looks like it will be a great update.
However I don't think it solves the problem that the number of active VR users is still pretty small. It's a little too pricey to be an impulse buy for people on the fence.
Although there is crossover between Quest and Apple Vision, they seem to be carving out fairly distinct market niches, with Quest going for gaming plus AR and Apple going for... business and prosumer use?
You say Q3 is targeted at gamers because thatās what they showed at their presentation. But the AVP presentation mostly showed content consumption, and not creation, so why are you focused on content creation?Tell a graphic designer/illustrator that the Amazon Fire Tablet and the iPad Pro have similar feature sets...you can read a book on one, illustrate a book on the other. Watch a movie on one, edit a movie on the other. Listen to an album on one, produce an album on the other. Not the same.
Quest is better compared to gaming VR because it is so highly targeted to gamers. I just went back and watched the intro video for the quest they showed when they announced the 3. They ONLY showed gaming. Sure, you can do other things on it. And yes, it has a forked, limited version of Android. But calling it a high-end android computer is a stretch. What are the quality of the cameras? What are the precision of the sensors? What's the quality of the passthrough video? A "high-end" android computer for $500? What high-end applications will you be able to use it for?
Meta is targeting gamers. Still. And they've built a device for that niche. Which is fine! Can someone do other, limited things with it? Of course people can try. But Apple is building a device for an entirely different category, and the quality is what will get it there.
Can you illustrate a book on the Quest? NOT on Android. On the device itself. I'm sure you could try. You'll absolutely be able to do that on AVP
Hand tracking is analogous to touch screen control, and VR motion controllers are analogous to a stylus / Apple Pencil, so if anything, the Quest is more suited towards professional illustration. And with the money you save by getting the less expensive headset, you could get a computer with several times as much GPU power as the AVP to plug the Q3 into to use professional apps. VR can use all the power it can get. If I want to sculpt in 3D, I want to do it with a 4090 GPU, not a base M2.Sure...just like my daughter can finger paint on her Amazon Fire Tablet. But do serious work? If a professional illustrator had to choose between the quest and the AVP, it wouldn't even be a question.
One is going to sell better than the other based on price rangeI like how Zuckie bashes the Vision Pro like the two products are even in the same category.
You already are and donāt even know... BTW āi wouldnāt AT ANY PRICEā. You talk of your data like if you were a VIP, and giving your ācommon mortalās dataā itās like sacrificing your entire family. Man, you would do far worse things for far lower price! Read less ********s on the internet and stop blathering š¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļøBe my guest giving your data to Mark. I wouldn't at any price.
