That’s why I don’t understand the lawsuits going on with Apple. Everyone speaking out against them either has a market majority, built off the App Stores back. Or they themselves take a percentage, for the “store” they’re provides goods from. That’s why I’m for there not being any changes, I don’t trust governments to not make the situation worse. Because the users will end up loosing, there is no benefits to us. Less privacy and security, and the same prices or potentially unrestricted price gouging.

for their defense, were talking about imaginary nonexistent items in imaginary nonexistent world
if you pay any real world monies for this you kinda deserve to be ripped by seller and marketplace
To play the devil’s advocate, so is the App Store. Apps and websites are largely also imaginary constructs running on a imaginary ecosystem.

Except for the shopping apps that deliver actual, real-world items and ride-hailing apps that summon actual, real-world transportation, as two examples. More of an AR experience if anything.

Aren’t those the social networks developed for the Russian FSB?
And Facebook for the CIA.

I gave up on FB and I love VK and Telegram.
“Permanently” deleted my Facebook in 2013 and never looked back. Of course they still kept a creepy, photo-less placeholder account for me, which I was able to log into and try to re-delete a couple of years later but that is somehow still there. A truly despicable company.

In facebook's version of the metaverse, there is also plans for e-commerce and physical services. It's not exclusively VR from what I can understand. If anything it seems like basically a 3D and mow immersive version of our screens, and I can see Apple's version evolving to include use cases like these as well.

Sounds excessive, unnecessary, and something that appeals to FOMO’d children. Like Tiktok.

I hate being an old troglodyte, but what the heck is wrong with existing in the real world, talking face-to-face will real people and making real things with your own hands? Why do we need to go to an escapist fantasyland, pretend to be what we are not and spew hate? Don't get me wrong, folks with disabilities who can be treated with respect in a virtual world is wonderful, but it is also a sign of our sickness as a society if we can't treat people with respect in the real world.

Oh well, I guess I should go back outside and yell at clouds...

As we've already seen, EU regulators will cut their legs off just like they're about to cut Apples legs off.
I almost wonder if this move was a cynical ploy to INVITE government regulation.
Please give us detailed information as to how much it costs Apple to maintain the App Store, including the salaries of those who monitor and approve/disapprove apps, server costs and maintenance, advertising, payments to developers, legal services, financial services, etc. Now provide the average markup in the real world retail market for goods and services like durable goods, food, furniture, automobiles. Now tell us why a 30% commission is outrageous and greedy instead of just your uninformed opinion.

Facebook's version, yes, but the concept itself already has some very interesting use cases especially in industry and medicine. I think we will be able to see a lot more developers creating more useful things once the hardware is mature.

Since you're so sure I'm wrong, why don't YOU do the math and get back to ME :)

This is why any Metaverse in the hands of Facebook is likely poised to fail. Mark Zuckerberg seems to think that this is the "next internet" - but the Metaverse is fundamentally different from the internet in a very critical area: The internet was an open standard.

We probably will see a "metaverse" succeed eventually, but it won't be anything like Mark Zuckerberg's vision. It'll be much more decentralized, and one that anyone can create content and environments for without dealing with corporate overlords functioning as gatekeepers for the entire ecosystem.

which means more money for the US Govs
they fine this creep billions and he just writes them a check for that amount.
simply because they profit double that per year.

i miss the old yellow pages books that we could easily recycle, burn or use to level a wooden TV.

I can see people saying the same about books before literacy was commonplace :p

There is nothing wrong with living in the real world and visiting a virtual one once in a while. There are also things that would be more or less impossible in the real world, for example using it to communicate over large distances or using the virtual space to do creative work.

Looks like Apple's opt out option of App tracking is forcing Meta to make up revenue elsewhere. So Apple, it's OK for your actions to negatively affect the revenue stream of another company, but when it comes to companies charging directly from their App is not OK because it would cut your revenue stream?
I mean... yes? The whole point of running a company is to protect and grow your own profits regardless of whether if it's harming other companies. Besides, with Facebook's flagging numbers and aging demographic it was bound to start bleeding revenue eventually.

Betcha no one complains.
Betcha no Apple apologist defends Meta by telling people that it's their App Store Metaverse and if they don't like it they can use a different Metaverse or create their own; or that Apple Meta needs to be paid for the support and backend that's running the service; etc.
