Microsoft pleading with Apple to make software for their operating system? My, how the worm has turned.

No iTunes. No STEAM. I'm beginning to see the picture and it's the picture I saw when this POS OS was first announced.

There was an article that Windows 8 gives the continuous "sold vs. shipped" debate a whole new meaning: There are estimates that of 100 million of Windows 8 copies _sold_ (and paid for) only about a third are actually shipped. That would be PC makers having to pay Microsoft for Windows 8 but then shipping the computer with Windows 7 because that is what the customer wants.

Windows made Vista. But the people said noooo give me XP instead.
Windows made W8. But the people said noooo give me W7 instead.

So do we have a trend where:
Windows makes X version OS. But the people say nooooo give me X-1 (ie the previous) OS instead.

Yeah just like people actually used Lion.

Nice one :D. I was one of those people. For almost two weeks; Lion made it easy to switch to Windows. Windows 8/RT makes it easy to stay. iTunes would be nice for the movies I have bought on it, and as I prefer apple's store to the Xbox one, but I have a laptop for that either way.

Give me 10.4 Tiger. When Spotlight worked.

Yes, because two companies refuse to adapt to a touch-environment for two products, the entire OS is just bad.

Do you even use logic?

Oh yeah, that makes so much sense. As long as Best Buy or any other retailer BUYS 100 million copies of Windows 8 (even if their customers aren't buying it from them) that's considered SOLD.. Gotta love the Microsoft supporters here, should I go on an presume that you're one of these as well, the ones that supported MS's ridiculous claims that the Surface sold out the first day at the stores, only for Microsoft's secret to get unveiled that truth was they only had very small quantities in each store from the get go? LOL.

Please reference my last statement if you have any questions.

You're kidding me, right? -_-

Yeah, you're right, paying for music is definitely better than streaming high quality music I choose for free.

How about waiting for an improvement to iTunes on OS X before porting it to Windows?

How about an improvement to MacOS first before fixing iTunes. That dinosaur of an OS is really showing it's age. Ditto for iOS. Apple is really showing why they're getting the image of being a company that makes products for the elderly.

I have heard good things about Civilization V in Windows 8 touch mode. I doubt you would try to run that on Windows RT.

People are making the strange connection that all copies of Windows 8 cannot run iTunes. Metro would target the touch interface along with x86/ARM. ARM being the big one here.

But the app is horrible. It's buggy, laggy, and it just doesn't have the depth of music that the iTunes library has.

I can understand there not being a Steam app for Windows RT. How would it work? The games that are on Steam are x86 apps.

Why wouldn't Apple help Windows?

Windows helps Apple by their deal with providing Office, which
apple does not have as good a writing product of their own for apparently..
(does iWork even still exist?) -
I really think Apple could be friendly about this.
And Windows 8 is great, and I enjoy using iTunes in the desktop mode, it's fine, but I'd be curious to see what a Metro version would be like.

What is Apple's angle? They don't want to have a maximum of users of iTunes? Because it's not that important moneywise? Or don't they have enough software engineers, seeing that they are already short on time for iOS7? Or do they think that people will buy a Mac over a Windows 8 computer just for iTunes?

They're a hardware company. Money they make off iTunes is marginal compared to money they make by selling iPads.

Even if the number of iTunes users goes up by, the additional revenue will be more than offset by revenue lost from people who use it as a reason to buy a Win8 tablet instead of an iPad.

The tradeoff doesn't work in Apple's favor

Why give Windows 8 such a bad rep?

Windows made Vista. But the people said noooo give me XP instead.

I like Windows 8 and it is faster though it takes getting used to.

Internet usage metrics (or in other words, getting data from browser OS version reports from a huge grouping of websites,) puts the figure at 60 million live copies of Windows 8. So already a lot more than the entire OSX userbase.

Amazon opportunity ??

Does Amazon have a Metro app to access their music and videos? Could be an opportunity for Amazon, or another strike against Surface.

I guess MS will pay Apple back by not releasing Office for iOS. I think that's a bigger loss than not having iTunes...

The thing is, Microsoft don't mention the Desktop going away any time soon, so why should Apple build an iTunes app that _HAS_ to run full-screen just for the benefit of a live tile?

Until Metro apps can run windowed on the desktop, I don't think there's any point in making a new app for Windows 8.

That's exactly why. Oh and of course Apple wanting a cut of app stores sales.

If Microsoft hadn't entered the tablet/pc hardware market, there would be more reason for Office on the iPad, provided of course that they could have come to a mutually satisfying financial arrangement. Microsoft needs this edge for whatever advantage it may provide for them to get into the table os market. Who knows what will happen. They could kill the Surface tomorrow and it wouldn't surprise me. Personally I see the Surface Pro as the product that they can compete with now. I think that Windows RT has a ways to go yet. And again personally, I see RT more as competition for Android than I do iOS.

If the availability of iTunes is such an important factor for that consumer, meaning he uses iTunes alot and has an iPhone, I don't think he will ever consider a W8 tablet, with or without iTunes.

They just don't like to give the customer what they want, rather tell them what they should want.

I understand why Apple might be doing this, but I don't agree with it. Perhaps it's because MS is dragging their heels with an Office for iOS app? In the end, consumers are the ones who suffer.
Well, look at it this way -- antagonists always say that iTunes is terrible. If that is the case, this is the perfect opportunity to develop Zune or Google Play or Amazon MP3 / Amazon Instant Video into iTunes killers.

I really don't understand what is so "hard" about Windows 8, it's like people wilfully like to admit they aren't that bright

somethings may not be great, but certainly not "hard" to learn

What you don't understand is that 90% of the people are not poweruser and NOT spending their time on technical forums and blogs.

You live in your world with people that knows technology. That's why Android people always bashin around will never understand why Apple is still selling a lot of products.

They don't understand design.
