flat multi-color box interface design

it reminds me of the back of cargo ships off the shores of SF for instance
all those multi-colored containers - you know what i mean? i wonder if that
was their inspiration for the flat multi-colored interface for windows 8?

right, right??? bland......... though the new hotmail lay out is really handsome mind you.

This.

Although I have to admit that I haven't tried it on a tablet or touchscreen. But when I ran it for a while it was the worst OS I have used in the 20-30 years I have been using computers.

I have played around with it too on both a computer and tablet, and it makes Vista seem great

No matter you slice it 100 million copies is 100 million copies.

Oh yeah, that makes so much sense. As long as Best Buy or any other retailer BUYS 100 million copies of Windows 8 (even if their customers aren't buying it from them) that's considered SOLD.. Gotta love the Microsoft supporters here, should I go on an presume that you're one of these as well, the ones that supported MS's ridiculous claims that the Surface sold out the first day at the stores, only for Microsoft's secret to get unveiled that truth was they only had very small quantities in each store from the get go? LOL.

Poor Planning AGAIN

BEFORE they put out this OS, they should have found out if there would be iTUNES would work on this new OS...but they didn't bother...a bunch of idiots that build an OS that is still much too complicated.

In an interview with CNN Money, Microsoft chief financial officer Tami Reller said that Microsoft has talked to Apple about creating an iTunes app for Windows 8, but that users shouldn't expect it to arrive anytime soon.
Currently, iTunes 11 is available for Windows 8's "Desktop" mode, which is a traditional PC interface within Windows 8 that works well with a keyboard and mouse. Microsoft, however, wants Apple to create an iTunes app for what was once known as its "Metro" interface, which features flat, colorful blocks optimized for touchscreen devices.

CNN Money notes that Windows tablet users are likely the ones who are requesting an iTunes app for the operating system, as well as users looking through Microsoft's app store within Windows 8. However, the report also note that Apple is unlikely to fulfill Microsoft's request because "there's no reason for Apple to help make the Surface a better product."

This issue is a double edged sword for Apple. For many users iTunes is their first experience of Apple products, the original idea being that it would hopefully lead them on to other Apple products and eventually switch from Windows.

By crippling the Windows 8 version of iTunes, users are simply going to think bad of Apple and look for alternatives. There are plenty of other music download and/or streaming services out there.

This was a deliberate "trojan horse" strategy that Steve adopted to maximise the addressable market for iPods, iPads and iPhones. If that market was limited to Mac users only I don't think Apple would sell as many iOS devices.

Maybe Apple will go down the Sony route and give away iTunes music content for free exclusively to iOS device owners. Or have a nominal £5/month subscription. I can see how that would make iPhones and iPads look more attractive to potential buyers. Add in video content for another £5/month and it could be a game changer. Just pay for apps, books, etc.

I just love how people like you look at business decisions as personal ones. Apple not wasting their time creating an iTunes Metro app makes sense as they stand to gain very little from such a small Windows 8 user base. Microsoft on the other hand stands to gain much financially from porting Office to iOS.
If you think Apple deciding not to bother with a Windows 8 Metro version of iTunes would trigger Microsoft not to make Office for iOS then you should take a class in Business 101.

No, really, it's just one small thing.

The only way they should offer Office for the iOS platform would be through their Office 365 platform. They shouldn't give Apple a cut of their profit, because quite simply they don't owe Apple anything.

The only way I'd think Microsoft should make an iOS office is as a value-add for 365.

I have no problems with Windows 8 and welcome the improvements coming in Blue. I cannot wait to try the public preview.

Hell freezing over really helped Apple all those years ago. I have few friends that switched to iTunes on Windows just because their Macs aren't supported anymore. Good job Apple...

Like the first couple generations of the iPod? I don't even think they did so well.

Crippling? I would think the metro version would classify as crippling it. The desktop version works just fine in W8. The whole full screen app at a time is the only bad part of W8. Otherwise its fast and stable and relatively easy to operate (if you learn how its changed). Have to say I actually like it now (hated it for first several weeks) So who needs the Metro version of iTunes and why?

Flatter design?

does this sound familiar? Maybe Apple is just wanting to save the flat design of iTunes for iOS7 then it may roll out a version for W8

I expect to see this when Microsoft makes a Mac version of Outlook on par with the Windows' version.

In other words; never.

What is Apple's angle? They don't want to have a maximum of users of iTunes? Because it's not that important moneywise? Or don't they have enough software engineers, seeing that they are already short on time for iOS7? Or do they think that people will buy a Mac over a Windows 8 computer just for iTunes?

They should act more like Google, and not be so brand rigid.

Apple waited nearly two decades, but revenge is a dish best served cold. Take that Office ´98 when Steve Jobs had to tell Mac users, "You´ll just have to wait."

LMAO, would you guys stop making this so personal. Microsoft isn't "giving" Apple anything, it's all about the consumers. Try and look at it from a consumer standpoint for once. Office should be on iOS for the consumers to buy so Microsoft can make money plain and simple. MS is a software company, just like every other developer who makes software. If you're suggesting that MS creates software on the Mac and iOS platforms just to do Apple a favor then you're wrong.

I'm not surprised Apple are dragging their feet on this. It was easy for them to port over iTunes to Windows originally because both the OS X and Windows version used a mouse and keyboard. But to expect them to write an entirely new desktop version of iTunes with a touch user interface for a rival OS, that's asking quite a lot. Especially when their current version works just fine on Windows 8, it's not like their losing customers or anything.

The 30% to Apple would be a HUGE favor to Apple.

It isn't about making it personal, it's about logic. Microsoft does the work, they should get the profit. There's no reason why any company as large as Microsoft should willingly give up a sizable chunk of their money.

Now, the funny thing is when the same people who say I'm "making it personal" with this are also the ones who cheer when Apple goes "thermonuclear" on Android because Steve Jobs had a beef with it. Obviously that's "making it personal", but nobody seems to grasp at that.

This isn't even personal, though, it's simply business. If Microsoft sold Office in the iOS store for 100$, they'd be getting 70 and Apple would be getting 30. Or they, as I stated, could go about it as a value-add. Then you have maybe half of iOS users deciding to go with Office 365. Then Microsoft makes 100% of the profits and Apple gets the nothing they deserve.

----------

Maybe they need to buy iPad instead of Surface.

Of they should start moving to a more open store.

One of the two, one of which doesn't involve them spending another 500$ on a device.

Metro sucks.

Opinion.

This is really going to piss off all 10 Surface users! :p

Oh haha :p

I would keep them waiting until they release an Office 365 for Apple that is not buggy and works as well as the windows version.

Until then, I would say screw em!
