Wow. I couldn't disagree more. Everything is so much more pleasant on my iPad 3 than my older model. Pictures, video, text....everything. No going back.

and i know others who have said the same...but i know people like me who have trouble seeing it.

To be fair, i don't do much reading on my iPad2. Thats where i think the higher resolution really shines. Pictures to a degree as well.

MS Surface tablets address all the biggest complaints about the iPad: it's not tall enough, it's not wide enough, it's not thick enough, and it doesn't weigh nearly enough. The iPad is also often criticised for having useless Bluetooth and cellular support. And GPS. People often complain that the iPad doesn't have a trackpad or keyboard on its cover too.

All of these problems are overcome by Microsoft's new Surface tablets! Hooray!

did you not see how light it was?

meh i give up...people just see a picture, hop in here and spew their typical bs.

I hope microsoft patented the case, because I think Kirf land will surely ensue, with a raft of copycat iPad keyboard smart cases from Chinese third parties.

Assuming in the next 6 months we do see iPad type cases with similar features

As much as I hate chinese copycats I actually look forward to any and all knock offs that can pull the rug out from under this thing. Anything to keep the competition down suits me just fine.

lol. That's ludicrous. You can't tell the difference? That's like saying my 4:3 sony trinitron with scan lines is as good as my samsung 3D LED HTDV.

Get your eyes checked perhaps if you can't see the difference between the iPads

My eyes are probably bad enough so that the iPad 2 is "retina".

I don't think that's hard to swallow at all. Android has failed to take the bull by the horns in the tablet world and has left the second place door open for sure. I still don't see a lot of margin in these though. Companies are in business to make money people...and Apple will certainly continue to do so at a greater pace than anyone else in the industry if this is all of the "innovation" their greatest supposed "competition" can muster...

The success of these tablets will depend upon how well windows 8 is adopted.

The pro tablet looks nice, but I'd rather get an ultrabook.

I am interested to see the Surface Pro with i5 processor. That mean you will get the HD 4000 like the base macbook pro in it and that you will be able to run full apps like on win7. After Effects, photoshop, Cinema 4D, Maya... very neat.

And with HDMI out and USB 3, I think its a GREAT tablet. Well worth a 1000$ price for the small form factor.

I dont see it as an Ipad competitor though (the Pro). More of an ultra-book competitor.

There needs to be a damn wager system on MR. Set up a CC/paypal system and have you guys put your money where your mouth is. If you think this thing will be a success, put up some money and make your bets.

I will almost guarantee you that I will take your money and make you look as bad as steve ballmer. Unfortunately, steve ballmer will still be CEO even if this project fails.

Only if you put up money if it is not an outright failure.

Hats off to MS, the PC's look inovative and are a nice cross between an Air and an iPad. I can see that it could be useful but they need the app support, and the absolute key for my "only" traveling gadget is run time.

I'm no Apple or MS fanboy, I saw the 1st iPad and knew instantly that it would change the world, snapped one up on day one. A intuitive UI, beautiful large screen, and 10 hour run time, done. Add GPS, cellular, and the ecosystem of apps, absolute killer.

This intro was "not-so-much", Apple keynotes gives real meat, details, specs, demos, pricing. This was soooo much fluff, quasi-details, and futures.

If it runs under 8 hours, it's not even on my radar.

That looks like a big knockoff of the iPad, but the keyboard is nice. Apple should have made their smart covers come with foldable keyboards like those.

Just buy the microsoft keyboard cover and use it on your iPad. They use the same magnet system anyway

LOL at all the fanboys. Face it the ipad is a giant ipod touch and nothing more.

A giant, profit driving, market creating, everyone else-arse whipping ipod touch. Yep...that's right.

And this bastardization from MS is nothing more than the a next gen TC1100 face it...

I was at the gym next door and didn't understand why there was so much media around. Then I saw they were unveiling the tablet!

Looking forward to some competition for the iPad to keep innovation alive.

Amazed at how many people are drooling over that keyboard cover when they've never used it. I can't imagine typing on a soft(er) cover would be a pleasant experience. And I might be in the minority but when I want to type on a keyboard or use a trackpad it seems much more natural to use my laptop. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple has/had some concepts like this sitting around in their design cave. Tim Cook has made Apple's position tablet/laptop hybrid pretty clear. I doubt those statements were made without without having tested their own hybrid concept at some point.

It is difficult to "see" weight. I've read many different specs on here about the size and weight so I don't know what the official weight is HOWEVER from the pictures it does not look like it is very thin or light weight. Pure judgement call but think M$ didn't do themselves any favors in how they shot this thing.

Only if you put up money if it is not an outright failure.

I would totally bet AGAINST microsoft. Just look at their failing history patterns. Nothing they do is innovative, creative, or original. Why not just rename your business, "Copysoft"

I'm so selling my iPad and get this mainly for the kickstand :D

My only complaint about the iPad is how much the Smart Cover sucks. Apple, could you please make a cover that is ACTUALLY USEFUL? The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Smart Cover was "Why is there no keyboard on this??"

then "Won't the magnets be bad for it?" then "Oh wait, they won't."

Looks like a nice tablet. Like others I'm no Metro fan but the PC version might be pretty good. More competition Apple gets the better Apple products will become.

It looks like a tablet I can actually use Photoshop and Office on. Toss in Firefox and USB3 and I'm a happy guy. Go ahead Apple, real OS X on an x86 tablet with USB3 and I'm not going anywhere.

That looks like a big knockoff of the iPad,

HOW??? because it's a tablet and anything that's a tablet is an iPad knockoff?

Apple should have made their smart covers come with foldable keyboards like those.

but they didn't. is that hard to swallow? instead of bashing this new Microsoft tablet and then saying you with Apple had the innovation to come out with a folding smart cover keyboard, how about you take a step back from your iPad and realize what you are saying.

look man, i have an iPad 2...i love it. but these new Microsoft tablets look sick, and as said that's coming from an iPad user

It's thinner than an iPad, and much lighter.

Which one? The Pro is 903g = 1.99 lbs. The RT is 9.3mm at 676g and 1.49 lbs

The iPad is 9.4mm at 1.46 lbs for WiFI+Cellular and 9.4mm at 1.44 for WiFi only.

What's hilarious is this i5 Ivy will do nothing to iPad sales and will get hosed by Macbook AIR sales.

Sorry, but Microsoft is good at mice and decent at keyboard designs.

This is already DOA and in 6 months those specs will have changed down to either a more energy efficient i3 [3217U]or won't happen, at all.

I did, and I think that part is totally admirable and a good thing (I was/am upset that Apple didn't make the new iPad lighter). There...see...I don't think the dang thing is terrible (in fact, I think it's a rather nice device and intriguing)...but it's not earth shattering either.

Because Google is going to announce their "iPad Killer" and Microsoft wants to steal some thunder. Same reason Google announced their new mapping vaporware the day before WWDC.

I thought of that, of course, but I can't believe they are worried about another awful Android tablet.

Maybe, but such a portable device with the capability to run Windows apps is very powerful. It is a real threat to Apple.

Apple has been a leader for a long time, and may continue to be. But this kind of dominance can't last for ever, or at least other dominant companies (IBM anyone?) have failed to extend their reign indefinitely. I'm rooting for Apple because I'm a convert, but having so many companies (Microsoft, IBM, Samsung, etc.) arrayed against you is not something you can expect to withstand forever.... :apple:

Windows-RT can't do that though. Only the high end one does that will probably cost in the range of a 13 inch Macbook Air which can also run full Windows apps. At which point, why not get a Macbook Air? I really do no understand this convergence of a touch screen device with a keyboard and junk trackpad. This is a toaster-fridge, simply put.

Without good apps this thing won't succeed. It will be up to Microsoft to make this an attractive ecosystem for app development. If Microsoft can draw enough developers away from the iPad this could be a decent competitor.

What makes the iPad so appealing is the apps, not the impressive hardware.
