Can see this device eating into Samsung more than Apple. Has the potential to do well in the business enterprise market but how well it'll do in the mass market is another question.

Very Nice Indeed

Always thought it was only, if you love Apple there are haters that will tell you, you're stupid because you buy there products. But it's the same here.

Grow up my little ones.

Look at the products - not that some other company are trying to make something new. I have an iMac, iPad, 2 x iPhone 4S, iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch, Apple TV and so on.... AND I FREAKING LOVE IT.

But I also have a Windows 8 PC with touchscreen, a Nokia Lumia 900 and ofcourse I'll get the new Microsoft Surface - because it's cool. Try Windows Phone 7.5 and you will be surprised how PERFECT that is. Never chrashes (the iPhone 4S does)

Honest - Apple's products are cool. But they also crash. They also gets slow once in a while. You pay for quality, but also for the name. It's like that.

So grow up my little ones. All big companys makes good products. And without that competition we would still be sitting with our Commodore 64's - back then i had Amiga - Yes I was one of the cool ones :)

Hope for USB and SD support in the next iPad and so on. Love Mac but... I want what I need. So if they can't deliver - Well so long I will also use Microsoft.

I hate Android though O:) Soooo slow !

Now I can breath again :) Have a nice day.

For the man who wrote "Microsoft Surface bla bla bla ctrl+alt+del keys" - Hey... Apple chrashes excact as often. Especielly the exposé doesnt work half of the time.

Typed from my iMac - wrong spelling sold cheaply. Speak 9 langueses, sooo a little wrong typing is okay I think :p

Apples and oranges this is not a release, apple never announces its tablets before they are released nobody but apple people get to touch them up untill release .

As for wwdc to get osx 10.8 you need to be a registered mac developers, windows 8 anyone can download .

Nope your statement was BS, probably just your irrational dislike of MS .

Well excuse me!

I must have got muddled up with 'release' and 'announces'.

Seems like you are a windows fanboy if you are going to jump the gun to pass judgment on a MACforum. If you read properly, I said it was 'good' for Microsoft, just a shame they didn't provide many details.

It's seems interesting, but I'm more interested in what other hardware manufacturers have been doing with hybrid laptops for Windows 8. This tablet seems kind of boring really… also, Metro has hardly any apps, so how is it really going to compete with the iPad?

I can see the x86 version being a pain to use for any early adopters since many apps will be in the old desktop style, and the ARM version will just been too limited to make much in the way of serious competition.

If anything, the ARM device seems like it's competing more against the Kindle than the iPad for now.

Interesting! I love the ad, it's very well done and finally not the crappy Microsoft style. The keyboard is a good idea, though I think a tablet has to work well without one, since you can't always be at a table when using a tablet (otherwise you'd be using a notebook, right?).

Agreed. Funny how they advertises it as if it's mean to be used like a laptop.

I would gladly pay 1000$ for the i5/hd4000 pro version. The resolution is 1920x1080 and engadget say that the screen quality is amazing from all angles.

Seriously, this is better than the Air for power on the go.

If this is basically a laptop in tablet form it could be amazing.

If for example it runs steam :O
No more minecraft PE but actual Minecraft full version on the move :O
USB connectivity is awesome too.

The only thing i think which will stop this becoming a revolutionary device is its price point.

Cant imagine the Windows 8 version of this going for less than a laptop.

can't wait for Apple ads that bring back Mac vs PC guy but this time Ipad vs Surface lol

That wouldnt be a smart move, since Microsoft this time has the superior product it seems.

Keyboard, trackpad - all as a snap on. USB support and so on. The Metro Style homescreen, wich I personally love eventhough Im a Mac user. And the wildest fact. You are not bound to use a iOS like OS - you can switch between the REAL thing and the Touch OS part.

Try making the iPad run OS X - would never happen. To heavy an OS.

Anyway - cant wait for Mountain Lion - cos OS X start looking "dusty". Hope it's as innovative as Windows 8. For else Im switching for the first time since OS X was released, back to Windows.

Funny - half a year ago I was ALL AGAINST MS. Now.... Well start seeing the point.

Ctrl-Alt-Delete does exist? lol

You think people investing in 350 Apps that can be carried across any iOS device is less invested than someone buying MS Office!?

You do not need to use control alt delete to unlock windows 7. You can use it to quickly lock the computer and to get to the task manager.

For corporate uses to have all of your business apps available is huge. I won't be buying a ms surface tablet, but I can see where they would gain the edge, which is at the business level.

wow i am feeling a bit worried for apple. microsoft surface can run full apps as opposed to iOS ''baby apps'' in iPad. I hope Apple step up its game soon.

Weight

"Weighs about 1.5 POUNDS, though feels like more."

Pressure sensitive keyboard says it all. Good luck with finding a market for it. Leave it to MS to have different versions of it. Basic and Premium - create and order into categories. The controlled access says a lot more about how underwhelming and underprepared they are for it. Good article that one.

Still love this ad the best though... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZrr7AZ9nCY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I'm really excited about the possibilities of this. | can see the day coming when I will finally be able to run Lightroom on a tablet, now that one is coming with a filesystem and the ability for Apps to have access to things like importing photos without being forced to only go trough a proprietary photo app that doesn't support RAW files (aka the iPad's)

I really love the iPads hardware, but iOS on the iPad needs to be opened up and given things like a filesytem (not necessarily visible to the user at all time, but one so apps can interface with each other better). The fact that Avid can't make an editing program that works with AVCHD because apples photo app doesn't read AVCHD and Avid can't import footage directly into the app. And the fact that Lightoom 4 cant not work with RAW files because it cant import footage directly, this is really annoying at this point.

I wan't to have a desktop for heavy computing tasks, and a tablet that can be used as a both a media consumption device, but also do a few light "real" laptop tasks. Is this to much to ask?

Then just get a macbook air.

I did! But an Air is not a tablet, and the idea of a small, mobile tablet on which I can perform all the same tasks as on my desktop computer has excited me.

I'm not saying I'm going to rush-out and buy a Surface, but I know I don't want an iPad with it's current mobile phone-based OS, but I will certainly look long and hard at it.

While i understand where your coming from i really do and i say well done to MS for at least understanding the hardware and software intergration importance. they still don't get it.

a tablet needs to be a tablet with a tablet OS to be a really good tablet. and notebook/desktop need to be a notebook/desktop with Desktop OS to be a really good notebook/desktop

its can't be all in one as experience will never be the same.

as Tim said in D10. tablet needs to be tablet without the legacy of PC to be really a superior device" and PC needs to be a PC without the limitations of Tablet to be really a PC. something long those lines

Once MS understands this then truely this will be a very good product. at the moment its feels like they putting all of their eggs in basket and hoping it all does not fall and get scrambled

I get it now, Microsoft is doubling down on keyboards, building very nice and elegant tech into them, while Apple is investing heavily in voice recognition with it's Siri and Dictation features. I genuinely wonder what will become more polished in the future.

I can't help but suspect just as mice are being replaced by touch input, keyboard strikes are going to be eliminated with refined audio input.

I had to smile at around 14 mins into the video, he has to replace the tablet as it looks like it froze. :)

I don't take it as a reflection on the final product, but clearly the reveal was premature.

In fact, with the product being, say, 3-4 months off, I don't see why the need to do a reveal now when there is clearly so much not ready yet.

A last minute, secret press conference...it just seems so sudden for a product that is so far.
