I've tried windows 7, it hung after installation, do you honestly think I'm going to try it again.

No, you used a beta version. It is called 'Beta' or 'Prerelease' for a reason, and this time (unlike with Vista), Microsoft have taken it upon themselves to fix these kinds of problems before release.

This is a mac forum for mac fans, go on a windows/linux forum instead. I shouldn't have to be explaining why I hate windows to someone on a mac forum, since this is suppose to be a place to get away from the haters

I'm not sure how many people want you here...

Pages Hanging???, what lol are you for real??, what version are you using, Pages I've never had a single issue with any Apple-appliction, just 3rd party ones.

Who said anything about Pages?

Office 2008 on my MacBook is unusable, it takes over 2 min too load up and the typing is lagging behind by about 5-8 seconds.

Then that is a problem with your MacBook, or other software on it, because I've not seen any other reports of this happening.

Yet you argue that Windows slows down? It doesn't if you don't install any third-party software on it...

I've used macs since 1998, when my parents bought the 233Mhz iMac G3, in that time we've had both PC's and Macs and I will defiantly say I favour the mac.

You were a full-time computer user from the age of 5?

We've had anti-viruses on the PC's nothing stopped them really. Finally i gave up owning PC's in January 2007.

It must have been the users that were doing something seriously wrong, then...

This 'argument' always makes me chuckle. What you are saying, is just because this happens to be a Mac forum (well in name only, given that the site seems all too eager to report on every single thing Microsoft does) everyone here should share your childish and uninformed hatred of Windows? I use both and like both (heck I have been using both systems for over 20 years. Aldus Pagemaker 4tw!), so yes, please explain your dislike of Windows in grown up terms, saying 'it sucks' or crying about haters when people don't immediately agree with you does not an argument make.

I am a very good computer user, i've built several PC's for people
All this says to me is you know how to plug things into the correct shaped hole, well done have a medal, most people learn how to do that as a baby.

Your Mac must be broken then, as 'a very good computer user' I would suggest you use your incredible computing prowess to fix things.

Well considering i'm 17 in a month, thats when I use to go and just play around in Appleworks on the paint program and stuff, I couldn't care less what you like, Its my own choice not someone else's

Listen here, why should anyone question me, its my opinion, unless your only use to censorship and stuff. I don't like windows for a lot of reasons. I think Microsoft is too greedy, they don't need to care about there customers as much as what Apple needs to do, editing software is slow and ugly for windows. Windows itself isn't bad, its just that it has to support so so so so so much hardware that causes all the driver issues. Oh and why do Microsoft really need to buy Yahoo?

Oh and nothings wrong with my MacBook why would there, its a 2.4Ghz with 4GB RAM and has been running flawlessly, its just when i load office up it goes slow in office.

erm no I'm 17 in a month I know a heck alot more about video editing and stuff than you since thats what I do at College and have been using final cut for over 4.5 years now

I'm 21, spent two years at college studying graphic design, and am about to start my third year at University studying for a degree in Digital Media design.

So, probably not.

I assume this is your first year of university?

Side note though; come on you guys, stop pissing in each others cornies and stick to the good vibe of possibly a new product being released or debating the merits of Zune versus iPod Touch.

I've finally had enough, I'm just going to ignore you now, mac rumours is suppose to be about the Mac community & getting on

Yes I agree, I was only voicing my opinion on why I don't like MS, It may do very well who knows we'll have to wait and see.

You say "tomato", I say "love apple".

Note that British (and some of the Commonwealth countries) use "college" to mean what Americans call "high school".

That could explain why a 16 y/o is in college.

"University" can have different meanings as well.

I'm in New Zealand - I was assuming he was in his first year because sometimes kids can go to university early if they're gifted or if they're choosing to go to Polytech. From the sounds of it - the type of thing he is doing would be, in NZ's case, be done at a Polytechnic.

I'm pretty agnostic when it comes to computers; I'm one of the few people who are happy with Office 2008, and don't mind using Microsoft products outside of Windows. My main problem with Zune isn't the fact it is from Microsoft but the fact that I am not able to use it with my Mac - deliberately excluding me from possibly wanting to purchase one.

lol, I left Year 11 Back in April, Between End of April and July I had my GCSE exams, Now I am in college. I've left school, spend two years at College and when I'm 18/19 go then go onto University.

No, I don't think this is true at all. Every child in the UK is required to attend High School until at least the age of 16. In some areas, High Schools offer tuition to the age of 18 for those who want it. In others, it will cease before then and these students are normally the ones who progress to college in order to gain the qualifications required for entry to University.

Personally, I attended High School from age 12 to 18 and then went straight to University and got my bachelor's degree. The qualifications I achieved in my second-to-last year of High School were enough to give me unconditional entry into University when I applied.

mind your own business, I was talking to someone else and not to you in anyway whatsoever get stuffed

Really? I thought you were making yourself look like a fool. This is a public forum, if I choose to reply to a post, or pose questions I am perfectly free to do so. Obviously you can choose not to reply, and judging by your stellar performance so far, it would probably be for the best.

$29 is the upgrade cost for Snow Leopard; compared to $49 for Windows 7.

A non-upgrade version will cost $169, compared to $199 for Windows 7 Home Premium. (And there's no point arguing that consumers need Windows Ultimate; how many people are going to need BitLocker Drive Encryption or support for booting virtual hard disks?)

169$ is not the full version of Snow Leopard, it is the Boxset that also includes iLife '09 and iWork '09. So you do get something for your money if you're still stuck on Tiger.

49$ for Windows 7 ? Pre-order only! The actual upgrade is 119.99$ for Home premium, and let's face it, that's the crippled version. You can argue all you want that home users don't need all the features, but the fact is Apple makes no such distinction. At 29$ or included in the boxset, you get the full version with every feature imaginable. With Windows, you have to shell out over 200$ for an upgrade or 300$ for a full version if you want to have everything.

Why would Microsoft do this? With Apple bundling iTunes with every computer it sells, it's a very big challenge for Microsoft to turn that over. Apple was lucky in that it had the European Union on its side, battling Microsoft to the end where it had to release a version of Windows without Windows Media Player. I'm still completely baffled as to why Apple are still allowed to sell OS X in Europe with iTunes attached.

The European Union isn't on Apple's side. Nor was the United States' DOJ when they brought similar actions against Microsoft for the bundling of Internet Explorer with Windows. You see, Microsoft has this little thing called a Monopoly, which it gained thanks to having 90%+ of the OS market.

As such, they now have to abide by the rules called Anti-trust laws. In this specific set of rules, it states that if you are a Monopoly and that you use your Monopoly to gain leverage in an other market, that you are participating in anti-competitive practices which won't be tolerated and punished.

Microsoft was found guilty by the United States then, only to not quite be punished with the change of administration in the White House that occurred just before sentencing. It left us with the last 10 years of web developpement, stalled because Microsoft stagnated Internet Explorer 6 after having attained yet a new Monopoly. Thank god that is breaking down as people are getting fed up of it.

The European Union isn't being so lenient though. And that's why there are actual remedies being put in place to prevent the same abuse from happening. This is not negative towards Microsoft, this is positive for the market. By forcing Microsoft to unbundle it's wares, it leaves the door wide open for OEMs to make deals with other smaller player to bundle their wares instead. So OEMs might decide to ship the OS with Winamp as the media player and Firefox as the browser. It's still Windows, but competition has been renewed on the browser and media player market.

It remains to be seen how effective it's going to be. However, make no mistakes, Apple is not a Monopoly and as such, it does not have to follow anti-trust rules. It can bundle whatever it wants, however it wants, all day long and nothing bad will ever come of it. Because if you don't like what Apple is doing, you're always free from buying from the other guy which will essentially give you the same functionality or close to.

BTW, I'd like to propose a new avatar for you. I think it would fit you better than Monk :

The Zune HD is not only a competitor to the iPod Touch, but also Apple TV
http://vimeo.com/6096791

MS also has the option of making it into a portable gaming machine an Xbox Lite say, which you can dock to your TV and play at home on the big screen. They already have Netflix on Xbox, they will surely bring it to Zune.

With HD Radio, HD Video output, music, podcast playback, pictures and games, the Zune HD is a very capable media centre.

As you guys keep saying, just because something is more popular, doesn't mean it's better.

the only fool here is you, I have every right to be here as much as you do. I have done nothing wrong everything I say about Microsoft is the truth I dont like them end of story, move on everyone else has. Now I apologise for that, but everyone was annoying me. When i speak the truth, Snow Leopard does cost $29.00, for the full version etc, etc
