Tablets

Looks everyone and their mother is coming out with a tablet these days. It's laughable. Tablets are the spam of this years CES and you wonder why?

Could it be that the rumor of Apple coming out with a tablet has suddenly made tablets relevant? All of these tablets look like they were thrown together during a drunken lunch binge in order to beat Apple to the market. This is why the PC market place is filled with garbage products. It's just good enough!

I can just imagine all of the innovative planning conversations that took place.

Why were my posts regarding the Xbox 360 deleted? Just because I gave an example of a successful consumer product from MS, contrary to claims that MS doesn't get consumers?

I didn't realize censorship ran so deep in this forum.

The fact is, most Mac users own an Xbox and are happy to give MS money for it. Given that Mac users have such strong tastes regarding user experience, the Xbox is clearly the best in terms of UI and UX.

You can bet on that. HP 'Slate' - a mere coincidence. ;)

Trying to second guess or upstage a product, which will more than likely thwart expectations, seems a bit futile.

If the iTablet does happen to be a paradigm shifter, there'll be many a tablet PC sitting in the warehouse.

Looking forward to January 27th.

No market for tablets, it's a dead industry, no interest in them . . .

Yet the entire industry is waiting on the edge of its seat for Apple's device. Everyone's gone tablet/slate-crazy.

There is a market for everything. You just have to make people want your product. Apple's usually good at that. In fact, Apple's pretty good at redefining entire markets and creating new ones.

It's based on wants just as much as it's based on needs.

The more I read about the apple tablet the more I think it will be nothing more than a kindle on steroids and if that is the case I would not consider it a tablet computer since it will be very limited in what it can do.

Steve Ballmer was pathetic! What a way to talk to the world!

Even AidenShaw must cringe when he realizes he's a missionary for this particular pope.

You could hear the face palms around the world during Ballmer's keynote. Thank heavens for the "mindless masses" phenomenon that keeps Microsoft firmly on top.

Meh.... honestly, I think Ballmer must be a cool guy to have a few beers with.

The guy is loud enough sober, thanks.

Could it be that the rumor of Apple coming out with a tablet has suddenly made tablets relevant?

Or could it be that we now have two tablet-friendly operating systems widely available, reasonable pricing for multi-sense displays, and low-power high-performance CPUs and chipsets?

Considering the lead time that it takes to design items like these, you can be pretty sure that these tablets were targeted for CES long before the "Islate" rumours and hype built up.

I think you missed the key word: relevant.

MS has had tablets for years. No one has cared because they haven't been compellingly good.

I'm sure the HP slab/slate will carry on that proud tradition.

As I said before....

The obsession of Windows users with Apple customers is truly baffling. There are only a few rational explanations:

The obsession of some Apple users with Microsoft's CEO is truly baffling. There is no rational explanation.

And you missed the key phrases
  • two tablet-friendly operating systems widely available
  • reasonable pricing for multi-sense displays
  • low-power high-performance CPUs and chipsets?
Much of the relevance is due to the fact these technological changes have lead to better, cheaper tablets and slates. They're able to break away from the expensive, convertible notebook form factor.

I'm sure wINDOWS 7 will be the touch-driven OS everyone has always dreamed of.
It does what Apple doesn't? Why am I going to buy something that doesn't do what I want?

I can get Touch Windows Media Center and get TV over the network. If I get bored I can stream recorded shows and movies or use Homegroups. Failing that there's always the internet.

Slingbox doesn't do what I want and EyeTV is too expensive. Though I could just get another Windows 7 license and use my Macbook.

  • And you missed my key phrase: compellingly good.

Though being a Microsoft drone you probably aren't familiar with that particular phrase and its meaning.

The cost and capability of the hardware can't overcome the fatal shortcomings of the software, much to your dismay.

Personally I don't like Keynotes, no matter who gives them (including Jobs). It's mostly the same old thing: "Get x, y, and z features for just <some high price>".

If I wanted to listen to a salesman, I would have gone to a car dealership.

No pain - I feel sorry for you that you have no better argument than to make fun of the man.

LOL! My arguments about the mediocrity of Microsoft could fill volumes. Ballmer's painfully hilarious public antics are just the icing atop the truly awful cake.

Don't worry, your turn to be smug will arrive when wINDOWS 7 brings tablet (or "slate" as Ballmer has now coined it ("a new form factor!")) computing to the masses.

Or perhaps not.

DMann has no honor

You've stooped to a new low in your campaign of harassment - deliberately modifying a quote instead of your frequent out-of-context misquotes.

I said:

Boy, did you link to a loony-site!

Welcome to Boycott "Boycott Novell!" (link to boycott-boycottnovell.com)

Did you mean to point both barrels of the shotgun at your own feet, then pull the trigger?

You quoted me, but changed the link to mislead readers as to what I said.

Boy, did you link to a loony-site!

If I were a moderator, I'd give you a 7 day timeout - this dishonest act of yours violates the Knowingly posting false information is also prohibited forum rule.

I already have a Windows 7 Tablet its actually quite good.

LagunaSol/LTD or whoever you really are. Your arguments never include a shred of solid technical evidence they are always opinions. You're entitled to your opinion but your lack of solid knowledge or evidence (and posting links to pro Apple blogs is not very solid) make you look foolish.

BTW: We all know Balmer is a goof but so is Jobs.

Mattie Num Nums/AidenShaw or whoever you really are. First, this is a discussion forum, not a specifications review board, and opinions are what discussions are primarily about. Isn't your constant whining about Apple considered to be "opinion" as well? Why, yes it is!

And where, pray tell, did I link to pro-Apple blogs?

"Solid technical evidence" please?

Another solid post.

Funny thing is I probably own more Apple devices than you do. I've said it before without Apple I wouldn't have a job, I am an Apple Engineer its what I do, however I am not an Apple cultist like some people here, and have respect for all forms of technology NOT just Apple.

Another solid post.

Yeah, sorry I had to stoop to your level.

Funny thing is I probably own more Apple devices than you do.

Unlikely, but irrelevant. Your endless "boo-hoo Apple" commentary speaks for itself, even if you have a MacBook Pro in each of your back pockets.

I've said it before without Apple I wouldn't have a job, I am an Apple Engineer its what I do, however I am not an Apple cultist like some people here, and have respect for all forms of technology NOT just Apple.

And without Microsoft, I wouldn't have mine. I suppose if Apple stuff makes you as miserable at your job as Microsoft makes me at mine, I should empathize with your constant griping. Then again, I don't camp out at Windows-oriented forums all day to tell people how much I detest Microsoft. I guess that's where you and I are different.

And throwing the "cultist card" doesn't add much substance to the debate, an issue you ironically complained about in your last post.

There is a lot of technology I respect too (precious little from Microsoft, sadly), but this is MacRumors, so I tend to focus on Apple here for obvious reasons.

Oh, and if you're going to quote someone, you may want to refrain from lumping that poster with another to make a blanket accusation that is false.

lolzz 0wned. I laugh seeing posts by some people sometimes.

On topic. Why the hell does everyone copy Apple in design? All these "iphone killers" and what not look almost exactly like iPhone. I guess it's true. If you can't innovate you just imitate. Don't say it isn't true either MS fanbois. Its freaking obvious right here and in a bunch o' other places. Go back to the Windows Forums plz k thx.
