They haven’t.
OH perhaps I miss rememberd as they did say facetime would be an open standard. Ut that never happened.
I think it’s hilarious how Google now positions themselves as the standards-bearer, just because none of their proprietary networks took off. Allo, Duo, Chat, Talk, Hangouts, Meet, and the 20 others I forgot.
Doesn't matter. They try to have a standard. Apple doesn't want interoperability for the benefit of the customer.

But that's Okey EU will force them this year anyway in about 7 months.

Google could have developed Voice into the world standard. They blew it.

Does Windows 11 really put the Start Menu in the middle of the bar? Yeesh. I hope that's configurable.

Deep cut, but does anyone remember how the earliest OS X betas had the Apple menu in the middle of the menu bar?
Yeah they’re trying to replicate the dock - and yes; it’s configurable 😅

I'm sorry? Did you forget that apple promised that imessage would come to Android? And how will you invent a new sms standard when half the market(apple) won't adopt anything at all?
Sorry what?? I dont recall Apple EVER promising that...why would they??? Seriously, I dont think youre thinking this through. Why would Apple give away one of their advantages to their competitors?? It makes absolutely no business sense at all.

Why? Because it's good for the consumer and makes their product better. But as we know, Apple want to lock people in and rather give them a worse experience if it keeps them locked in.

In the video facetime was to be open standard but it was scraped. Imessage was decided a few years later not be be opened up.

On Android you can use message, whatsapp or signal etc to recieve sms. This allows you to use one app mor easily. But on iPhones you have no choice. Signal can't recieve sms, only apples built in messaging app can.

Exactly! Google was inept, so now it's Apple's fault.
Yes it's apples fault. Google can't do anything if Apple refuses to open up or allow anything else to be used as a standard.

Disagree, exactly how would opening Messages up to other platforms improve their product? There still is no financial upside to Apple offering it on Android. Again, Google has had YEARS to make a competitive alternative, and have utterly failed and are now just whining. Google's ineptness is no reason for Apple to hand over the keys.

So that Apple customers can message Google users in an encrypted way. The only reason Apple keeps iMessage exclusive is to lock in their customer base while simultaneously providing less security to those same customers.

Whether thats an improvement to the app is debatable and there is no loud demand for it. You conveniently ignore the fact that the RCS protocol is not an open standard either.

Who said anything about the RCS protocol? Apple could simply release a version of iMessage on competing phones that allow Apple users to talk to non-Apple users using iMessage without resorting to three decade old technology. Apple is creating security issues for no reason but its own benefit while harming their userbase.

The part youre missing is that the E2E encryption is through Apple's ID Service and or iCloud.

So Android users will need an Apple ID account. I can imagine a fairly sizable number of users would refuse having anything to do with Apple. Bottom line, Messages is unique to Apple, and it drives sales of Apple devices. No one has offered up any compelling business reason for Apple to open it to Google users. That blue text bubble is gold $$$ for Apple. Shame on Google for having its collective head up its arse for 15 yrs...

Completely irrelevant as no technical reason exist for being reliant on iCloud or apples ID service.

Apple have admitted that the only thing stopping them is business interest to lock in their user base.

you understand this is completely artificial right? There's no buisness reason, except it being good for their users to communicate with E2E encryption with imessage instead of sms.

Thera zero reason why signal or telegram can't communicate with imessage users.

I dunno, works pretty flawless on my Macs and iDevices 🤔
I meant that iMessages aren’t available on windows. My wife and I are both currently fully embedded in the apple ecosystem with a MacBook, iPhone, watch each. I actually want to try out a windows laptops again or a folding phone but the loss of iMessage would be a big issue as we both use it a lot across all our devices.

There are several ways you can have iMessages on an Android Fold with apps like airmessenger and bluebubbles

You need not miss reading or replying to any IMessage if your using your IPhone or Android

Thanks, I’ll have a look. I’m usually reluctant to use third party apps for this sort of thing. Security would be my main concern.

No problem, think you will find all messages are encrypted :)

All msg's are between your private server (mac) and your android phone, all connections are done over HTTPS/WSS and utilizes TLS encryption by default
