Honestly, I love Apple as much as the next guy, but do some of you guys have ANY idea how ridiculous you sound with the "zomg Microsoft IS SO LATE!!! LOL!!!" jokes, considering Apple isn't exactly known for up-to-date features either??? Come on...

Whoot whoot like our mbp's and dated graphic card? Worse, calling the iMac a desktop when it's made with much owed mobile parts. More so, saying Apple has been copied followed by it's ugly and still no blue tooth stereo, real gps or flash on my iPhone. Uggg

There was me thinking this was a Mac news site. If Microsoft are so inept, don't report their products, you just make yourselves look desperate by publicising their hardware and crying copycat.

Apple don't invent these technologies, they just refine it and give it a nice design (and charge more than the competition). If Apple had their way, no OS other than theirs would have a GUI.

Someones meal ticket..

Ok, I wouldn't buy a Zune HD, but at least there's a choice and competition in the marketplace.

If the Zune HD didn't offer an OLED screen, there may not be the push for Apple to offer it. Then again, just because competing products offer a checklist of features, it does not mean Apple should follow the same route. One of the highlights of Apple is its simplicity.

Also, I keep saying.. Apple (tries to) keep its specs under wraps (I guess to not disappoint ppl / keep up momentum), but its the customers that drive the hype on sites such as macrumors; but MS (and other companies) always HYPE their products but its the fact that they often end up disappointing its customers when they fail to deliver or you find the caveats (small print) and limitations.

They've kind of gone back to the brown which seems a mistake to me.

Doesn't look bad for MS (from a hardware aesthetics standpoint) the OS is where it's at, though, and I doubt we'll see anything good from them.

Yay for competition.

I can't help but think that the ZuneHD looks like a prototype and not a finished product. Plus the sharp angles one the back lid look very 80's, then there are those screws... Epic faux pas.

The menu's look very amateurish too (even the text seems cut off) - see http://bit.ly/O7Sib; text 'Marketplace'? I can now hear what Microsoft would say... 'It's by design, we meant that'...

Screen looks an utter fail with its cramped resolution.

Also they could easily make it bigger considering there is lots of space around it:confused:

Like most M$ product too little too late, I think it doesn't look too bad but if it was released 2 years ago I think it would have been valid competition. Their real only area of success lately has been with the XBOX...

however, Microsoft have clearly tried to imitate a very influential device to regain (gain?) marketshare.
i kinda dig the industrial look as well, and i'm always keen on aluminium :p
but they dont know how to come up with new ideas....

Ohhhh pleeeeeeease. Apple has cool products but GPS is not lame cell site triangulation, lack of flash so Jobs can sell you FREE marketed non HD content, touch has been around for a long time, no stereo blue tooth, no flash, (it's worth mentioning twice), all computers use the oldest or under poersd graphics, the air ports are still hideous and drop all the time, the laptops still get raging hot, battery life on any MacBook is 4-5 hours only if brightness turned halfway down, wifi off and you're not running an app that uses more than 20% CPU cycles. Try using a laptop with final cut, doom, unreal, logic pro, garage band with a reverb plug in, or anything other than pages, safari or iPhoto. Talk about stone age.

Oh and while I like the mac as good as the next guy, go to suns website and watch project looking glass, there you will find most of Leopards innovations. e.g., quicklook.

Be a bit more realistic will you guys. Sheesh. Giving a lot if us a bad rap especially since a lot of sites are hyped up about this and everytime there is a lot if fooish bashing, it seems the mac zealots are wrong. This thread is building fast and other websites have more than 50% of iPod touch users interested, especially since they release a black picture recently and especially by those that understand Apple feeling the heat is good for consumers, and while Apple normally does react this way, add to this the buzz over windows 7, all IT departments talking about upgrading combined with millions if iPhone users with contracts about to expire and anything is possible.

Have a nice day, really. Just being real here. I like the black one. If it can store 720p and can offer various recording formats, this could be preety big. Could also affect cable dvr marketshare and probably why some of my real apple friend zealots, love windows 7 media center. Has Anyone SEEN the later tvs? It's as if msft and tv companies are in bed. Lots of options. Apple TV us dead now and will soon be replaced by a virtual software version, HECK TALK ABOUT STONE AGE, Apple tv still lacks dvr capabilities. Is that stone age enough for anyone. Even the iPhone, if used for 1.5 hours to surf the web, gets to 20% remaining battery life.

Every Zune that has a beginning, has an end.

See those little screws in the back.. when its been in your sweaty pocket a while, over and over again.. they'll fall out..
Even in a protective bag or whatever, synergy, handling of the device or whatever will cause them to unscrew..
By the time they release it it will be passe'.. iPod will have moved on to include a camera, OLED and possible magnetometer to support Google mapping apps.
When you have a neanderthall at the helm, you get stonage products.

..and there's one more thing... Bringing IE to the mobile world brings a world of trojan and virus hurt. Bravo!

I hope the next version of the iPhone/iPod Touch have HD support. The reason is that I don't want to have a smaller iPod version of a video in my iTunes library. I just to have one high resolution format that I can sync to all my devices. iPods and iPhones still can't play a DVD resolution sized video because the dimensions are too big.

You know, that's a really good point. Add that to the gloom Nd doom case for Apple. It seems, with seems as the relative word here, that Apple could get kicked and then kicked again while down that their price points beck e über magnified. Almost as if Apple did something to bring this in herself. Hope that doesn't happen. At the same time, I don't think anyone would complain if apples computers had more power, cutting edge gpu -and better price points.

Hmm, being MS's first relatively powerful handheld I cant help thinking this thing's success is going to depend entirely on the games.

If it was just for the media related stuff I'd laugh it off as a ipod wannabe that wont take off at all.. (still the most likely scenario!) If MS use some of their games industry muscle to secure game development though and position this as their handheld xbox then Apple might have something to worry about.

I hope it fails on that front, it'd be a shame if Apple get their blossoming little gaming platform taken away from them before the big publishers really got to make more than a couple of proper games for it.

It also means Apple won't until its ready. If there is one thing we know of the Apple of the past 10+ years it's that they don't follow the competition; the competition follows it. Flash memory, portable video, USB, etc. Plenty of other companies used these "standards" before Apple. Apple even diminished their usefulness UNTIL it was ready to incorporate them in their own products. Apple understands it's not the first person who breaks from the pack that wins; it's the one who crosses the finish line.

Oh wow, now they're really going for it! Congrats I guess, it sounds and looks good. But it's still a Zune. It still won't sync with my iTunes library and run my iPod Touch/iPhone apps so it will always be a no buy.

I guess the HD moniker makes sense now. Having HD playback on a 3.3" display is absolutely and criminally stupid. Battery life would drop through the floor for one.

Either way good one Microsoft. Apple are really going to have to step up now. OLED iPhone anyone? :)

Why would you want to put a HD version on a portable player? Seems like a waste of storage space on a device that already has limited storage. OTOH 3.5" computer hard drives are cheap. You can get a 1TB drive for under $100 now.

Just seen this thread, 420 comments already. Its amazing how the Microsoft stories get more comments on here than the Apple ones!

The real kick in the pants seems to be msft is doing everything right these days. A few weeks ago, as my bg is marketing/promotions, I pointed out that the recent commercials could be a small particle on what could turn out to be a huge media blitz by msft. Xbox and this = lots of games, perhaps with all the other things, Palm Pre, Win 7, IT upgrades, mobile 6.5(guess now we know why msft was waiting with the release) to expired (millions) of iPhone contracts. Just hope nowone falls for reduced AT&T rates for a cap as this is just to prepare for the teethering that's coming soon.

All these events seemed to have been timed and executed very, very well. This is something the board of directors at Apple can just shun away. The upcoming events is magnified greatly by Apples pricing, the economy with surrounding events from every angle while msft releases a device that is more than likely in bed with gaming (xbox), Netflix and HD radio. For sports fans, this is huge money as you cannot listen to games on the web. Sports alone could make or break a product and this is just one feature. I wasn't going to point it out, but the magnitude of thee releases is becoming very focused.

Embarrasing that they havnt fixed 'marketplace' so that it fits on the screen... Horrible interface... looks pretty bad all round.

Really interested in this. I made myself a Zune account on my Windows 7 partition on my Mac, and it's great. I wish they'd abandon the MS Points though, both on Zune and Xbox Live.

All it needs for me, is an email client and an app store similar to the ones the iPod has. If it can get those things, and some great games like Monkey Ball, Sims 3 (plus all the XBLA ones it'll play too - imagine Banjo-Tooie on the bus!) etc, then i'm tempted.

Oh, and a Mac Zune client :D

It'll be interesting what they do with Multi-Touch since Palm and Apple have a hell of a lot of patents.

Let me take a wild guess, will they by any chance rip them off and blatantly copy them as per every product of theirs?

Btw, great job ms, two years late to the party as per usual...in two years time they might even release an iPhone clone too !!!!

And btw do they intentionaly try to make their products so fugly!!!

eugh, fanboy. It isnt even out yet, who knows it could be great, it could be crap. Hold judgement till it's launched and you can actually use it for yourself.
