it is horrible that it will crash often, and have the lamest interface ever. Apple products are so finely polished and so integrated with their other systems that it is not tough to beat, but unbeatable. On top of that all other companies play catch up. You will never get ahead if you always strive to be behind.

You know, left dies a preety good job now with win 7 and SP2 on vista and you still read from misinformed posters about crashing yet Apple, to this day, found out how hard it is to work with exchange and all the business accounts. I remember reading how Apple lost numerous email for .mac/mm and can't help but snicker, not at those that lost anything as that's nit cool, but at Apples inability to laugh one program to do one thing, the whole, "exchange fir the rest of us" which is still not working.

Yet these post continue to show up. Amazing.

LOL, great comment, we are scared to death 7 will obliterate osx!!!!

Can someone at m$ tell what is marketplac?

What is a plac ms?

Hmmmm

I was serious. I don't want apple to die. :( Just because Windows 7 is better then Vista and everyone goes crazy about it.

So all this "windows 7 is a threat", "windows 7 is the best OS, the world has ever seen", "windows 7 is awesome", "windows 7 has the best drivers", "windows 7 is the fastest OS ever", "windows 7 looks best" "windows 7 has the most advanced user interface"

is all promotion. For Microsoft.

sure is fanboy in here

finely polished is when updating to 10.5.7 hoses your system right? so much for "just works"

Polished indeed. Thisnis why I have several target external disks and I updated on OS partition to the latest update, 10.5.7 and I get fpu artifacts on certain programs. Anyone know about this bug? Without time machine, is it possible to revert?

Also find it odd that time machine is still buggy and nowhere close for enterprise use, especially with the size cap being a major hindering problem.

People can bash I suppose but I wish some would get the facts correct, we dotnt know how good the OS is so we can't comment on it. However , 6.5 looks pretty good and new windows 7users will have a much better experience than XP. I have the test beta and am very surpised thaty old d940 duo core runs cooler, the system is faster and boots much quicker and make a great hack desktop too. Who knows. This device could be tied in very well with win 7. Time will tell

Like tuff says above it could be a sobering up from the dizzy heights for some people at apple that think they can do no wrong, and more refocusing on the pros.

That said don't worry they are gonna hype up their copying the dock for a while and get a few xp people to jump on 7 and then snow leopard will blow them out of the water. We have the much much better platform and the much much better community and with the iPhone feeding in the Eco system that brings innovation and vision ms can't match. Look at them they come panting two years after, later than even lg, samsung etc. With an iPod touch first gen clone, and an os in win ce that is the pits in everything, with such inept tec and marketing that they can't even spell and we get marketplac... They are the age old inept clowns they be always been... And to us switchers that we had to suffer through.

Google Sun microsystems project looking glass. Watch the video. A few minutes in you will see things liken quick lookn, 3D desktop and widgets and so much more, years ago.
Just saying.

heyy there people,

quit complaining about MS copying Apple or any other company copying Apple.

seriously does it really matter to the end user where a company got its idea from. the only thing that matter is that the user wants their product to work.

so what this Zune HD thing will come out after more than 2 years or lets say even 5 years and uses the same gesture and that ipod touch uses..as long as it works I will buy it...

people who are complaining about the looks of product...ask yourself and give honest reply...this thing is no where near ugly...

just be honest and give a simple answer...

What would you buy: an iPod touch as it is now or any other product which is exact replica of iPod touch and does everything it does for like $ 20 less??

See my other posts about media. Due to iTunes and apple tv, touch and iPhone will never EVER play vidoe content other than quicktime and YouTube.

I have to say that this has nothing on the ipod touch until it gets mobile apps, and it also gets off of IE

And then there is always the fact that because apple uses their conencter and the 3.0 software, they could potentially just add in a small dongle to get HD radio, and viola! they just kicked zunes ass again!

Hmmmm

Jeez, a few pixels of the "e" get cut off the end of the word in a clearly mocked-up screen, and you guys jump on it like the thing's garbage.

Apple CULT victim indeed...

In ALSO DARE anyone tongoogle Sun microsystems project looking glass. Watchbthe video. A few minutes in you will see things likenquicknlookn3D desktop and widgets and so much more, years before leopard, talk about copying. Geesh.

Try sobering up before you post . But yeah, Apple always takes way more credit than they deserve. When Apple does it, it's "Look at what we INVENTED!!!" When anyone else does it, it's a COPY. You'd think Steve Jobs invented the computer by himself -- what does that guy do besides give speeches and yell at people behind the scenes?

I'm kind of excited for this device...

I really had nothing against the Zune when I bought it, but the software for the PC was really slow on my computer. Plus, I couldn't connect it to the Mac.

I would love to see how they integrate it with the 360, but nonetheless, I doubt it will kill the iPod touch.

But, the back of it looks horrid.

No. Windows 7 is an awesome killer OS. In my opinion it's much better than OS X (the OS that is, I have grown quite fond of many OSX only apps). Why would you wish that Microsoft would stifle improvements just to make it easier for Apple to get lazy?

I don't like the idea of being able to see the screws that keep the device together

Ugly looking, but i like the radio and OLED screen.

Looks really ugly though...

Yes it is butt ugly. The screws lol and seriously CHAMPAGNE??? YUCK. It actually looked kinda nice in the mock-ups when it was silver. Seriously who makes these decisions at Microsoft, a 90 year old woman in a nursing home?

ugh i can never understand why people prefer a zune over a ipod i have used both and ipods are clearly a 100x better

I agree, but it is really because of the seamless ecosystem and user experience with iTunes and all other Apple products.

Hopefully Apple plugs some OLED tech into their soon-to-be-released 32gb iPhone.

It won't happen till next year. I am glad this will help urge Apple to push OLED, but they were already planning for next year anyway. Although I will admit we can thank the Zune for Apple increasing the storage on the nanos that came out last holiday season, so competition is good, and with Microsoft it is even better because it is so funny to watch them fail miserably haha! :)

I'll be impressed when MS comes out with an original idea. Not saying Apple is always first with an idea, but MS never is. They simply take others.

AMEN!!!

god, microsoft can never get design right. its designed like some sort of darth vador ship, with an evident ipod v. 1 ripoff.

The title of "social" made me laugh alot - not exactly cool or pioneering!

Apple better watch out. this device might steal away as much marketshare from the Touch as the original Zune stole from the iPod.

So true, so true. I didn't realise this was a major project launch.
I thought it was just another forgetable launch from the planet zune. Which it none-the-less is.

The ZuneHD is abit late to the game, but that doesn't mean it won't sell.

And I'm certainly pretty impressed so far. The HD radio seems pretty pointless though. Now if it had a DAB+ tuner I'd be happier. Probably my main interest is in the whole Xbox integration thing. Will be interesting to see what MS announces in this regard at E3.

Of course MS still refuses to sell this thing world wide, which I find mind boggling.

Why would I care about radio? I have Wunder Radio app which gives me not only local stations in NYC, but tens of thousands on this earth?

No kidding! Apple will not add radios to their iPods or iPhone. It is worthless. The entire reason I ever got an iPod to begin with was because the radio SUCKS! And if you like to listen to commercials etc. then download one of 100 radio apps! It is really sad and pathetic that RADIO is one of Microsoft's one up specs lol.

This should be very interesting to see what will happen once Palm releases the Pre and if there is a lawsuit that follows for multi-touch. It's clear that Microsoft is following Palm's lead.[/QUOTE]

I am interested to see how this all unfolds too. Multi-touch is going to expand into the tech market no matter what. Apple can't be the only one using it forever. Makes me wonder why Apple spent so much and was so adamant about patenting it when they are not even defending anything. I guess maybe that was their way of slowing down other people using it as a scare tactic.

I think eventually everybody will just start using it and Apple will have to let it slide since they didn't really invent or patent "multi-touch" anyway.

No, it's the best thing about it. 480x272 is 16:9, which is the same aspect as most SD and HD TV shows are transmitted in and it is good for watching movies too. When will Apple stop pretending that iPod touch and iPhone are "widescreen" and release a player which is better suited to the media which it sells?

I will admit, I wish Apple would make the iPhone and iPod Touch etc. all 16x9 aspect ratios. It just makes sense and should have been that way from the beginning!

if that was a ipod you guys would all be jizzing at its sexiness....

ABSOLUTELY NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!!! If Apple ever made anything champagne I would be the first to say WTF!!!

90% of the comments in this thread follow one of these formats:

"Omg, it's so ugly!"

"Way to copy Apple, Microsoft!"

"It's gonna suck!"

"Nice try!"

"I hate it because it's got no Apple logo on it!"

"They copied the first-gen iPhone omg!"

Uuggggghhhh. Ffffffff*ck. I have a love/hate relationship with these sorts of new stories on MacRumors. I like hearing about them, but I absolutely hate reading the comments, and I can never help myself but try to comment the other way around.

Microsoft-bashing Apple fanboys with bad grammar galore. Nobody knows how to take things with a grain of salt anymore!

There is a simple remedy for this.

IPOD NEEDS a radio....

It should have had one all along...

I don't care how many RADIO apps they create... If you aren't getting a clear 3G signal it sucks... And sadly... Most of the time you aren't getting a good 3G signal driving around Los Angeles... Or in a indoor gym...

When I'm on the treadmill at the gym... The gym tvs have FM radio Tuner numbers on the sets... you are suppose to tune into the station to hear the tv show playing... If you tried that with a Radio App the LAG would make everything off by a minute or so...

CAN'T do this with the IPHONE.... it's annoying... I know you can buy a $50 dollar accessory to let you tune into FM stations.. But an onboard radio chip would still be greatly appreciated...

If I'm not mistaken, the iPod minis were out around the same time I had the original 30 GB Zune. That particular Zune did in fact look *slightly* better than this particular iPod mini.
You're mistaken.

This model shown came out in early Jan 2004 and the Zune came on the scene 2 month's shy of 3 years (Mid-November 2006)… so meh.

Regarding the "fugly" iPod Mini

that's funny :p ...it is pretty fugly!

CrackBookPro:cool:
Yeah -- pick on tech that's 5.5 years old! For its time, it was extremely cool and sold EXTREMELY well.

In fact, any time anyone talks about Apple's determination of "keep moving forward", they use the Mini as the example. While most companies would've sold the Mini until it stopped selling, Apple completely reinvented their offerings. In fact, it might've been Steve Jobs in one of his keynotes.

A Reminder

Maybe some of you need a quick reminder on how gorgeous the iPod Touch is, and how iTunes store, Mobile Me and the OS makes anything MS tries to copy irrelevant.
