If you get a Surface Studio laptop, just don't even remotely spill anything onto the work surface or allow a drink to condensate in its glass next to it - why? Because it'll go right into the vents at the bottom. I don't know this was a good design decision?

For many reasons, you should never eat or drink near a computer anyway.

Looks great to me. Air flow is good.

Too bad it’s Intel. I owned a Surfacebook 2 and the battery life was horrible compared to the M1 Macbook Pro.

I get it, the design, Surface first, portability second. It's like a portable studio instead of a portable workstation.

another attempt to "revive" the PC form factor ... it's dead, the form factor that is, has been for years, other than adding new processors, RAM etc nothing has changed for decades. Of course there is still use for the PC in the corp world but for consumers, those have moved on to smartphones and tablets ...

Surface was and will remain a niche product, nothing else ...

I love my Surface Pro and Surface Laptops at work, by my oh my, the Surface Studio looks awful with that bucket on the bottom.

I suppose if they made it the same size of the top part we'd have to call it the Surface Chunky Boi.
Or call it Surface Powerhouse.

This is not aimed the consumer market. It's aimed at the enterprise and creative professional market. This is a tool, not a toy.

Can't fault MS for hardware form factor innovation, but it all seems very experimental.
Sticking with the traditional formats of a phone, tablet, and laptop through Apple's iPhone 13, iPad Mini, and MacBook Pro (yes, Apple will keep siphoning money out of us )

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

I keep wishing for Microsoft to come out with a killer product that combines great performance with a great sense of design in a sturdy portable form factor, and then I realize that what I really want is the next generation of Apple devices. The M1 chip and mini-LED display technology has upped the game. Now, everyone else is struggling to catch up. With that being said, I still really do wish for Microsoft to knock one out of the ballpark because innovation is what drives everyone in the industry to push the envelope even further, making us as consumers the ultimate winners. For those of us who started out with 5 1/4" MS-DOS installation disks, there's also a certain sentimentality in wanting Redmond to one-up Cupertino.

Ps. These forums are always amazing to read. Most folks really do engage and add in some amazing insight, information, and opinion to keep this old brain fully engaged. Thanks, y'all!

I wouldn't go that far but it's great to see Apple have some serious competition now.
It will be interesting to see if THESE versions of Microsoft hardware actually hold up the promise they’ve yet to meet in competing against the various Apple products they’re going after. Every version before these have suffered from some issue or issues that effectively kill their sales.

its looks like a laptop with floppy disk.

with that bulk they should add a bluray player.

I bet even the Surface Duo 2 supports external monitors with extended display.

Would be nice if we could get it for the M1 iPad Pro.

I think the general design direction of this device is great. Especially if you're in the market for a Pro laptop with stylus support.

That display thing is sweet. Would love to see something like that with macOS instead having to deal with the touch bar and a faulty keyboard design for 5 years or so … hey starts at $1500 not at $2500 … now thats pricing for humanity. Hey, don’t even charge 30% on the App Stores … go figure … they don’t want to change the world I guess.

wow! That actually looks amazing, weirdly I’m super into the bottom bump as well, it looks different and new! I’m kind of set on the new MBP but it kind of would be nice to go back to windows for that machine

Looks like a Surface Pro with kickstand that's attached to base/keyboard.
