I agree that from a bird's eye they copied the SP design. But I WISH Apple copied the kickstand, I still opine that a tablet without a kickstand is inferior out of the gate. How do you prop it up without buying a case for it? I suppose there are the official Apple cases which are made up of cheap folding material that only does 1 or 2 positions before prolonged use makes them too floppy to hold the tablet up, or you could get a chunky aftermarket case with a kickstand. But it did always baffle me how anyone using their iPad with no cover could use it in any other position other than either flat on a table, or held in 1-2 hands.
Well, it’s a tablet — obviously it’s supposed to be used primary by holding it with 1 or 2 hands.

BAM!! And THAT is the mentality that Apple is banking on. Often, arguably most of the time, I do NOT use my tablet with 1 or 2 hands. It baffles me that using it with 1 or 2 hands is thought of as the "obvious" way to use a tablet. Being able to put my Surface Pro in front of me, at any angle I want, but have both my hands free is extremely useful. Of course if I want to pick it up and use it with 1 or 2 hands I'm free to do that as well.

Makes me think of:
Well, it's a computer - obviously it's not supposed to be portable
Well, it's a laptop - obviously you're not supposed to touch the screen
Well, it's a tablet - obviously you're not supposed to use a pen on it
Well, it's a phone - obviously it's not supposed to have a large screen

Microsoft missed the moment to switch to ARM processors in order to get rid of the bottom fundament. I think it’s a great product but the bottom makes it look, as if they are not being able to deliver their customers cutting edge state of the art technology in a simple design.

Looks solid to me: 1080p front-facing Windows Hello camera, 2xThunderbolt 4 ports, >16GB RAM options. The vented piece on the bottom is jarring. but the screenshots posted compared to older Surface products help give it perspective. The new MB Pros have some competition.

First, they admitted after years the surface book was a bad design, ok
Now they have a laptop with a pad underneath it to cool the cpu and gpu? looking at those vents im thinking Microsoft would love the M1 or upcoming next M chip
They copied VAIO FLIP

Definitely still prefer an Apple computer but that was an awesome product video.
100% copied design from MBP and SONY.
This laptop is a MBP I SONY VAIO FLIP baby.

ARM is a failed proposition for them (again), look at the Surface Pro X, not even a mention today in their presentation and behind the scenes they kept the same hardware, and put up a non LTE model at $100 less. Clearly it's on the way out the door. If the SP8 does truly have 16 hours of battery life then I don't see a huge need for ARM anymore. I will withhold judgement until battery benchmarks come in though.

I stayed in a hotel room in Montana in the dead of winter. Very cold.

That vent was at the baseboard providing heat for the room.

I simply can not unsee that fugliness.

Just wait till the fans really start to blow too.
This is MBP design standing on the fan / ;)

Almost every laptops have vents on the side, close to bottom. Including mbp. Not sure what the new issue is here.

On another note, I find it funny they never show the back side of the laptop lol
Where are these vents on the side of the MBP? I can't seem to find them. (Looking at the 13". There is one in the back, under the hinge.)

I love my Surface Pro and Surface Laptops at work, by my oh my, the Surface Studio looks awful with that bucket on the bottom.

I suppose if they made it the same size of the top part we'd have to call it the Surface Chunky Boi.
To each his own. I had a Surface Book laptop and it was one of the worst computers I ever had. Terrible touch pad, video card issues and overheating.

Apple copied the metal bodied Macbook (originally was plastic) from Sony VAIO so everyone copies from Sony. Apple also copied the magnetic pen attachment from Microsoft. Apple should next copy the Surface kickstand and pen holder in detachable keyboard.

Magic Keyboard brick alone weighs 3# so it's an insult to associate it with the 3.83# i5 Surface Studio Laptop.

Does Microsoft provide sales figures for Surface? I’d be curious to know how well they sell. Obviously hardware is not Microsoft’s main business. It feels like a side business to keep Panos Panay happy.

It is pretty cool, and I really WISH they made a MacBook/iPad hybrid computer like that. Meanwhile, I have no idea whether it really lives up to the hype, but I do know one thing... That "Pure Imagination" song they use in the video (originally from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory) makes me WANT IT NOW! Just like how it made me want all the candy in that room when Gene Wilder sang the song in the movie. Yeah, I know they're going for the Pavlovian response to the song...but what can I say? I'm a sucker and I totally fell for it!

The tech specs I found said 3.8 or 4 pounds, depending on processor. And the screen covering the keyboard is just a mode for viewing movies and things like that.
I saw 10 pounds somewhere else. Obviously wrong.

I need to get a new Windows laptop to replace my antique Surface Pro 3. As much I would love this, I don’t want to be a guinea pig. Also, I need 16 GBs of RAM default but don’t want to pay too much for it on a new form factor like this. Also, with Alderlake on the way, the 11th gen Intel in this is gonna be behind.

Also, Windows 11 still has a way to go, so I will likely hold out for the Surface Laptop 5 next year and go for a 15 inch model.

As for the Surface Laptop Studio I am going to give it a few more revs.

Everyone is banging on about how great the M1 is but has anyone factored in that the extreme cooling is more likely to do with the insane GPU that absolutely destroys the M1? Unless Apple ships their own GPUs, that’s where Apple will struggle when it comes to the creative market (an area they’ve always focused on).

unfortunately this is over-engineering at its fines as this product certainly has an identity crisis. an "all-all in one". I dont see this as a good tablet or notebook computer, it seems like its replacing the desktop surface studio. there are nice elements of it, but its so niche and seemed to be done just to say "look what I/we can do!"
