It’s 13 hours vs 10.5 for the Pro 7. It’s not one of those promised “20 hour” devices. Only a slight upgrade in battery life.

Literally everyone has a smartphone. I tether my MacBook to my iPhone and get LTE anywhere.

we need more details, is that 13 for the X in always on mode? And is that 10.5 for regular always tethered? I prefer tethered same data plan, but I always need an extra battery for my phone or be plugged in.

Microsoft is starting to out-apple Apple... What's going on here ?

Not so fast. These new Surface products look nice but we don’t know the actual level of reliability yet.

Microsoft has a horrible reliability track record with the Surface Book with many units returned for repair.

Apple is obviously not immune to this either when their manufacturing partners cut corners on parts or processes.

Until we know more from actual user experience we can’t jump to conclusions at this point.

Going to replace my Dell Latitude 14” that is almost 4 years old and having major issues with a Pro 7. Looking forward to shedding some weight!!

The hinged phone looks nice. I can see Apple doing that before copying the Fold. Looks very clean.

I disagree. It started with cloud services and iTunes. Now we got Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and Apple News. Apple is very intent on becoming a services company, as that is where the long-term money is. Putting out new hardware every year costs R&D dollars. Service development, with its monthly fees, not nearly as much.

Lol ok.

Microsoft will convert its software, eg Office. So the business world will definitely be interested, especially the traveller.

Nope. They’ll simply keep buying an intel laptop or pc. It’s not like MS hasn’t been down this road before.

Nope. Which is why the pro x is doa.

I dont think its DOA, even Apple is going to be going to ARM on MAC OS PC as far as what I have seen in the past. and the galaxy book S is coming with ARM as well

and yes MS has been down this road before with Windows RT but this is not the same

Ruh-roh... This is going to be a tough decision. The one thing that's been keeping me away from the Surface Pro tablet devices was its lack of LTE. This closes that gap. If they stuck with the more durable design of the previous models -- and if Apple misses the mark again with their more fragile design -- I may need to make the jump.

At that point, the only remaining decision is do I want to use Microsoft's unsecured platform...

I have to admit, Microsoft seems to be listening, where Apple continues to hold their ears and say "La-La-La".

Honestly, looks like bunch of bling to me. It‘s nice to see large manufacturers trying to be innovative - but just throwing new form factors and see what sticks isn‘t my idea of finding to solutions to problems.

And Microsoft knows this: Windows is NOT made to run on tablets. It‘s terribly clunky to use on those.

These are no tablets in my eyes! They are more sexy looking notebooks that nobody using as tablets. Hope Apple answers soon with some ARM based MacBooks....

They could have hit a home run with the phone if they made it dual boot and ran both Android and 10X with their custom chip. The ultimate portable productivity machine, and have sim card load basic phone/text features in 10X. Imagine a outside screen so you dont have to open to check the phone/notifications and running Android on the outside while running simultaneus 10X in the inside with option to reverse with easy connection to external monitor and docking. They missed it big time here. Mr. Cook, ya hearing me? or you busy being a politician?

After long time some exciting stuff from Microsoft. Neo, Duo and Surface Pro X are really tempting. In commercial Duo was shown to use as phone but i guess that looks funny. The women was carrying/using 2 devices in commercial, Neo for emails etc and Duo for talking. Wishing Microsoft make them good as they are advertising. Next year its going to be big competition. Probably Samsung would also try to bring something like Neo and Duo.
Did you read the part where they called the OS’Windows 10 X’.
Or would that get in the way of a good rant?
Windows Ten Ten in Apple land LOL!

That's what MS fans said about "Windows on ARM". That didn't take off either. There is no substantive reason why this attempt at Windows on ARM will fare any better.

MS does this on a regular basis. They re-re-re-re-rebooted their Windows Phone platform and it never reached critical mass. At the beginning of each reboot, people were saying "this time will be different"... when asked for a reason, they responded with either MS' marketing points or wishful thinking.

Windows on ARM this time with be DOA... and every subsequent attempt will also be DOA unless MS takes a serious look at the core of Windows and redesigns it (or significant portions of its subsystems) to accommodate the architecture.

I would prefer Apple add touch & pencil capability to macOS and bring that to the iPad Pro.

The difference this time is that the Surface Pro X is running on a custom-designed ARM processor built from the ground up for laptop type form factors as opposed to before where Windows devices were just running on a stock 835 processor built for phones. There should be a dramatic increase in performance this time around.

Yes. Doing something new and interesting is what attracts people. Apple has just been spec chasing the last few years. Anyone can make "faster, longer, more durable."

The iPhone doesn't have the best anything spec wise. They have the best real world end results.

That would be nice for sure but Apple would likely never do that. But in the business of custom-designed ARM processors Apple has nobody to fear. They only have to take the next step, maybe with an A14x next year....

What about two (glass-covered) screens that curve by maybe 90º (Samsung phones get pretty close to that) which via a special hinge design basically touch each other when folded out flat?
Now you're talking. That would be pretty sweet indeed.

I'm super excited about their new products. I'm disappointed they're still using the microsoft connector for charging and docking but other than that i'm very happy with their release. Their connector reminds me of the old 30 pin connector apple used...

When they move to TB3 i'll upgrade my work laptop to a surface product for sure.

Great hardware, amazing innovative gadgets, unbelievably cool and sophisticated..... still Winduh..s.
I get what you are referring to. But to be honest... Windows has made great steps these last few years where as Apples Mac OS took baby steps. Everyone seems to leapfrog Apple these days.

Never mind all this innovation. I'm sure Tim Cook has some new Apple Watch bands to release any time soon. The fightback is on!
Lol, Tim will surprise us all with a new shade of pink. You'll see this only coming from Apple... That's all folks, see you next year!
