I have been using OS X since Jaguar days

Then you should know just how unstable OS X and its apps were in the early days. OS X 10.3 Panther was the first release that was a true successor to OS 9. 10.0 - 10.2 were bold steps forward, but terribly unstable and lackluster feature wise.

Windows 7 is the best OS they have made, comparable and complimentary for the very first time with Mac OS. 8 they have typically shot themselves in the foot though - even 8.1 isn't enough for me to tempt to switch to using it.

My whole legacy XP customer base is moving over to 7 64 bit in time for XP dying next April and not one customer wants to use Windows 8 which says it all really ;-)

OSX Never fails! Ever...its Windows Fanboi lies!

I have not seen that screen in 10 years and I use my mac daily for hours. As I said, Macs do crash they just fail to work a lot less than Windows fail to work INCLUDING the applications they run. Hats off for the Windows team for being able to support such a wide variety of hardware and such old software but for me, what counts is the final experience of using the 2.

We can argue this all day but you can not argue the diminishing Microsoft market and the growing Apple which was almost bankrupt in '97 and today its about the biggest organization in market capital. What does that tell you?

Trust me I appreciate how much Windows got better over the years, XP was such an improvement over '98 and 7 is probably much better than XP , and when I did setup my family's new Windows 8 I was impressed how fast I was able to connect to the internet , a processes that took a lot of configuration 10+ years ago . Then again, it was all there. 10s of updates, restarts, pop-ups , viruses, errors, compatibility issues, toolbar installers, drivers, and last but not least apps crashes.

My question is, if you find Windows a very reliable system why are using OS X which to your statement crashes more often than Windows and has minor market share.

When an expert argues with an imbecile in front of a panel of laypersons then that panel has difficulty, and at times cannot, determine who is the imbecile and who is the expert.

Suppose it's impossible to use both?

Nah, that would be asking too much of some simpletons.

I've used Dos, OS/2, Netware, various versions of Linux, Solaris, various versions of UNIX, various versions of Windows and OS X. I do not care what I use as long as it does the job. My prime selection reason is the application and then I look if it will run stable on a particular platform / operating system.

The fact that windows 8 is on your laptop does not prevent you from installing 7 on it. In this aspect, windows is better than OS X since you can install older windows (up to a certain point...) on newer machine if needs be. Try installing snow leopard on a 2012/2013 Mac!

Windows 8 buggy? With all the 3rd party bloatware that come pre installed on most machine it's a possibility, but not microsoft's fault. I made a clean install for bootcamp use and except the fact that I'm not sold on the "metro" interface, it's by far the fastest/leanest windows to date.

Just because you don't like something, or are not good at using it does not make it a bad product. Try to be more objective :)

Whyyy does everyone keep saying Windows 8 is buggy? I've never had an issue with Windows 8.

You do know that if you downgrade a Laptop to a previous version of Windows it may or may not work, right? Blame the 3rd Party for their Drivers of their Hardware. It sucked trying to find Audigy 2 Sound Blaster drivers for a Win 8 machine. I just decided to buy a Fatal1ty Sound Card, instead of ripping out my hair! I'll never understand why a lot of Companies still use Beta Drivers for a few years... MAKE IT FINAL!

Whyyy does everyone keep saying Windows 8 is buggy? I've never had an issue with Windows 8.....!

After realizing I hadn't booted into OSX on my 2013 MBA in weeks I finally made it a one partition Windows 8 only machine. I also am VERY happy with Windows 8; and even regularly use the Metro side ! Not one problem.......

Suppose it's impossible to use both?

No, but its hard to see why would one be using another product if he is extremely happy with one especially considering the other product is much more expensive.

I use Windows 8 sometimes, but just to play some retro games I do not use it because I am fond of it or find it better.

Any way, this conversation is taking more of my time and yours than its supposed to be. In the end I guess its all about different strokes for different folks.

Let's not forget history that M$ has as an original developer for Apple way back in the day. They got big, competitive, then bigger, and in some aspects are what drove Apple to innovate and resulted in the great machines and OS we have now.

They still retain more market share in some segments and are still the de facto standard for business productivity suites (Office). Yes, there are Pages/Keynote/Numbers, and OpenOffice, LibreOffice, ad nauseum, but MS is still the 800lb. gorilla in that market.

Competition, no matter how insignificant it seems lately from M$, Samesung, Google and others is still what creates growth and innovation for all of us to benefit from.

The OP's rant was against unfair pricing. In light of Microsoft's history and status as a dominant OS monopoly….. well, no one should be surprised that they can charge whatever they want for their software.

I always felt that when you are the major supplier of anything you can always charge a lot less. I can be wrong, but I always felt that Microsoft can make much more money if they priced Windows at $60 instead of few hundreds, because many more people will be willing to buy it instead of just pirating the very expensive product.

Then again, Microsoft can make only 1 sale per OS. For example, those who bought XP in 2002 , might be still using it 10 years later, so Microsoft are not making profit on any updates like Apple does on their hardware, or iTunes/Apps stores.

All in all, I am sure Microsoft paid professional researchers and analytics, and the current price is probably the one that they are going to gain maximum profit from.

Perhaps it is because one has no option but to use both.

There are some areas where applications and support for specific hardware are at best minimal under OSX.

It is for that reason I have two 27" iMac that have Windows 8.1 under bootcamp as well as OSX.

Mind you they both spend more time running under OSX because that is the better OS however when I have to fire up the RF networks, Windows 8 has to be brought into play.
