Apple obviously doesn’t care about market share. If they did then they wouldn’t have quit making Safari for Windows.

They may not care how Safari does overall versus Edge or Chrome but they certainly want to keep usage up on Apple devices as they make a lot of money from having Google as the default search. If Safari usage started to drop off too much, those payments would start to drop too although I suppose they might then go to making Chrome the pre-loaded/default browser.

I use Safari 98% of the time. I have FireFox, Chrome, and Edge on my computer but only use it if Safari is not working properly for a website.

Perhaps Chrome is popular because Apple makes Google the default search engine and users are pestered with download Chrome messages.

I have used Safari as daily driver for 17+ years. Remember when the Acid 3 test was the benchmark for a good browser and Safari eventually hit 100%? http://www.favbrowser.com/safari-3-scores-100100-first-the-acid3-test/

I have used Chrome and Edge over the last few years as a back up but on a basic level I cannot stand both browsers are using my browsing habits to advertise to me.

I still have a soft spot for Firefox and I remember how much I liked Netscape Navigator before that. It's crazy how fast the time has passed. From browsing the web on a dial up modem to always on gigabit connection in our pockets.

Edge is better that's why. Safari is trash. No timestamps in history. Bookmark icons barely work. Memory usage warnings when watching a 1080p Youtube video.

Edge is my go to browser on the PC. Safari because of its deep integration with Apple services remains my choice on my MacBook and idevices.

I know it’s always been in fashion to slam Microsoft. I get it. But edge is a great browser and because it’s chromium, tons of extensions.

I switched from Chrome to Edge awhile back and it's working well for me. I like the way Edge handles vertical tabs and memory use seems about on par with Chrome. I switch user profiles frequently, so Safari just gets occasional utility use for me.

Good to see that people are finally discovering that Edge is a great browser on MacOS.

That's cool to hear. I actually didn't realize Safari was so "popular". I really like the new Edge browser. Edge on my M1 MBA works beautifully, and I can easily get 10-12 hrs battery life even using Edge heavily: multiples tabs, Teams (chats and calls), etc. I know I could get more battery life using Safari, but that's not a real-world use case for me.

Safari is zero-click vulnerable garbage so should be easy for Edge to overtake.

It’s bizarre that people use chrome on iOS.

Secret hint: All browsers on iOS run on WebKit. Chrome & Safari are the same except for the interface.
I think that supports the point that when folks say they don’t like Safari, it’s usually something related to the features, not the actual browser rendering engine.

Both Edge and Safari are good web browsers, I guess people choose between them depending on the OS they are using.

What is still surprising is why is Chrome number one, it’s bloatware.

Chrome is bloated yes, but it’s pretty much the most compatible browser at the moment with websites since developers tend to almost always make sure a website is compatible with it given its user share. It’s also still coasting on the good reputation it built up in the 2010s and the bad reputation of IE during the same period, so it will take time for regular users to start looking for alternatives.

The data is telling. Safari's trend line has remained largely the same. The line dropping is Chrome. As people realize that Google is becoming less trustworthy they are looking for alternatives. Now you can ask "a browser for MS? Really?" But truly, if you look at what Edge phone's home with (your analytics) vs. Chrome it is a world of difference. Additionally, Edge asks. Chrome does not. Google is getting creepier as they try to hold on to market share and that's not a good look.

I try not to over-think it. People didn’t like the tab and color change in Safari, so they switched to Chrome. Ez.
