You got downvoted, but you're right. Just try having a decent adblock plus without paying...

And to all the people complaining about browsers being forced upon users: in iOS you are 100% forced to Safari (Mobile), even Chrome uses the same renderer on iOS.
stans can't face reality.

all of the top extensions are from people who do it on their own time for enjoyment. i don't blame them for not wanting to go with apple's draconian rules. you are absolutely spot on about the joke that is ad blocking on safari.

Only if you ignore the popups when you try and buy something online. Personally I find the fact that it monitors my browsing habits to see if I am going to buy something then tries to insert itself into the transaction far too invasive.
That's easy to disable via a setting. Is it irritating that it is "on" by default? Sure. But it is also irritating that every browser defaults to "show ads". ;)

Nobody is talking about the elephant in the room, Apple's poor software called Safari. Remember when Safari was better at rendering MS Internet Explorer web sites than MSIE was?

Now Apple is in arrogant self interest land and they are not compatible with anyone, just like MS in the 90s. Not a fan.

Microsoft Edge is my preferred cross-platform browser. Mostly because of vertical tabs that work better than in any other browser. Performance is like any other Chromium browser more or less. One annoying thing is how Microsoft with almost every update asks me if I want to use "recommended settings" instead of my own settings which pretty much means changing the search engine from Google to Bing. Like why can't Microsoft just accept the fact that I want to use Google for search instead of Bing? Stop nagging me every few weeks asking me if I want to use the "recommended settings".

I still find Apple Safari superior when it comes to speed and efficiency, but there are increasingly more and more sites that don't behave great when using Safari and the state of extensions using Safari is rather lacklustre compared to chromium browsers. I get most of the extensions I need, but some of them just behave inferior in Safari compared to Edge. And you get the annoyance of Safari not being cross-platform making me lose sync of history, extensions etc between operating systems.

Edge is basically Chromium re-skinned, like every other major browser is becoming. It's actually a good experience using the recent Edge browser.

That said, the monoculture of Chromium-based browsers is worrying.

I agree. Bring back the Presto engine!

How is Chrome ahead of any of the other 3?! Do people somehow not see how terrible it is?

I suppose it's possible you're the one who's right and the millions of Chrome users are wrong.

Possible? Yes in the same way it's possible to win the lottery when you buy a ticket.
Probable? Well, that's a whole other leap of logic and faith.

When are some of those competition-promoting agencies going to turn their attention to Chrome?

Chrome is a kludge even though Edge is based on the same core, Microsoft does a better job of memory managing and tab performance.

Interesting. I disabled it by going back to Firefox on Windows.

I can only go on the stats from my website as reported by Statcounter.
Edge is nowhere. IE11.0 comes in at 1.68%

Puffin 9.721.58%
Firefox 99.017.33%
Chrome 100.011.25%
Safari 15.410.64%
iPhone5.78%
Samsung Internet 16.25.47%
Opera 85.04.56%

Nearly 22% usage share from Puffin? Wow, that has to be some sort of record.:)

Lunacy! Microsoft has a browser built off of Google tech that is beating out Apple's Safari?! Put some resources into WebKit dev team and step up Apple. Stuff has needed doing for years in some cases. Like not getting a 4 year old ES2018 features like RegExp lookbehind assertions. I mean should I really need to use another browser just to visit a site like https://russiaslosses.netlify.app which uses regexp lookbehind assertions and Safari just fails?! This ain't right, it's such a low hanging fruit to just fix Apple/WebKit. People in the bug thread wonder if they will see this implemented before climate change. ?

I use Edge on Windows and Safari on macOS and iOS.

No desire to give the advertising company (Google) easy access to my data to run their business.

The first version of Edge, based on Microsoft's own web layout engine, was not really that great. Switching to the Chromium base made it a lot more useful browser, because most web sites are nowadays designed to work with the Chromium core code. It's not a coincidence that Opera and Brave both use the Chromium code base.
