Look ! This is windows 95 and they bring a start menu.

Oh look ! Start menu is deprecated, this is Windows 8 without it.

Oh look ! This is windows 10 and they bring a start menu.

(repeat)

I don't get why people complained about windows 8 so much. It was something fresh and new. Human beings just don't like change.

Exactly. W8 was the first time MS actually tried to do something right. And they took it back fast.

So a major Windows release has no relevance or interest to Mac users?

Probably as interested as iPhone users are in Android releases.

I like Windows 8 but what annoys me is the Metro interface on a server OS. Remote Desktop to a Windows 2012 server and trying to hit those corners with the mouse is somewhat counterproductive

.. And AmigaOS had it in 1985 (multiple independent screens, at differing resolutions and colour depths, for applications)

Poor old AmigaOS, always forgotten in many of the debates...

Loved its ability to drag screens down whilst each screen maintained its own resolution.

If you take the time to read and not just blind comment, you will discover that many of the issues/complaints/comments are related to something technical...

With XP, this was a non touch operating system, as we are on a Mac website this would be akin to Mavericks, Win7-8-8.1 and 10, this is a touch screen optimal operating system, think iOS7/8... It does not work with non touch screen devices..

Laptops with touch screens/surface/winphone all need a touch screen optimal OS, my HP sucks at touch screen, it is not one, and I find it frustrating trying to use it as it has a touch screen optimal OS.

A recoded revised XP yes, I am all for that, and for the surface or Dell with touch screen, then W10.. At least Msoft could code 2 versions when you install you are offered the choice of touch screen optimal or non touch screen optimal... That is NO TILES for my HP!!!

Reason no Windows 9?

... Obviously Microsoft is being secretly run by Ms. Uumellmahaye from the Movie "The Man with Two Brains"

Anne Uumellmahaye: [counting in a neurological test after Delores placed the brain in an oven to boil] One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, ten.
Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: You. You cooked her nines! Out! Out of my house! Out of my life!

;)

They need to give us the choice of having aero glass, or at least make a sexy looking visual theme.

Does that guy think his hair looks cool or good?

So, we got

Windows 10 (X), obviously a way to steal cred from OS X (10) - not going to happen.

Joe Belfiore's hair, obviously a way to steal cred from Craig Federighi's hair - not going to happen.

What's next? Microsoft Stores popping up close Apple Stores? Oh... wait...

Windows 7 was a massive improvement over Vista and XP. I still liked XP better just because I only ever used it for running Windows-only software, and it was faster, but 7 was easily better to use on a home PC. And Vista was hella bad compared to both. At this point, I'm Windows-free...

New does not imply better. Just because people don't like something that happens to be new doesn't mean that they hate change. I never tried it, but it looked a lot worse.

2 things stand out for me.. Microsoft is really struggling to find a decent operating system that works on both touch and non touch devices. This approach is a terrible idea..

I have the very strong suspicion that Microsoft is short of cash, ie bankrupt, the video above was a brilliant example of how not to shoot a 10 min video. unstable shaky shots, and a really truly awful over the shoulder shot.

This video was shot and edited by some PR hack 13 year old kid with ipads...Edited in some rank bloatware editing package, hell for $1000 I could have done a better job!!

The solution, recode XP from 8bit to 64bit..99% of PC's are perfect for XP, and leave this snotty version for phablets!!!

Using your logic...... Apple is also going bankrupt after the fubar that was the keynote live stream ;)

Thank god company bankruptcy is not based on video production .....

----------

XP already has a 64-bit version, and it never had an 8-bit version.

This will be news to some users here.

Yes, W7 were indeed better in terms of stability and speed. Especially compared to Vista. But as long as it concerns the UI, it was the same standard windows. In W8, Microsoft actually tried to catch up with the modern interfaces, using a unique style of their own and getting rid of the old-fashion start menu. But with W10 they seem to make a step backwards on that matter.

They are actually stating that on their own: "Start menu is back". ;)

Yes. They are just skipping 9. Perhaps they feared a negative reaction in German-speaking markets.

Honestly it took me quite a while to get it. Since no one here says Windows Seven or Windows Eight but only Windows Sieben and Windows Acht, I automatically thought of Neun instead of Nine.
So:
I get it.
.
..
...
Ahhh, now I really get it!

PS. Yosemite is going to be a real pain in the a** around here :p

I see what you mean. Yes, it was the same old Windows. But if you ask me, the way to do a desktop OS right is to make OS X. I find the interface in OS X Mountain Lion just about perfect and very well thought out. :)

Just watched the video and ...... man have these guys lost direction.
They've taken a step backwards, sidewards even...
They've only just realised that Win 8's tablet design didn't work on PC's... ??
And Win 10 just looks like a mashup of Windows Vista and Windows 8. It's just so messy looking.

I'm so glad I jumped over to OSX. Yosemite looks awesome and I'm looking forward to using it, especially Handoff.
OSX is moving forward and Windows is moving .. well who knows. They really lost their direction when Bill Gates left.

iOS for tablets and phones - perfect!
OSX for MacBook's, iMac's, Mac Pro - perfect!

Apple - 10/10! ;) :)
Microsoft - Windows 0/10  :p

10/10 apple stars for you.

Completely illogical conclusion , but respect for the blind faith and devotion!!

As posted earlier it's OS X , it's MacBook Pro's and you forgot Mac mini

What, because he doesn't like Windows? Gimme those stars, I'm never using that junk again either. Gimme some extra for my dorm friends.

I don't get why people think OS X is such a superior OS compared to Windows. I work with both of them and both are good, but both of them have downsides as well.

When it comes to stability, I doubt that OS X is more stable than Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1 for the average desktop user. Well, on servers I prefer Unix as well.

One point of the Windows 10 concept seems to be overseen in the discussion here - W10 targets platforms from mobile phones up to servers. If they succeed, this is a great improvement and far better than the unlucky iOS / OS X split in the current Apple environment. It means no restrictions for file sharing and ( basicly ) no restrictions for RAM or upgradable storage memory ( like SD cards, etc. ). Apple is very strict here and keeps it's ecosystem very tight so that users need to upgrade their devices frequently, if they want to use new features.

So I'm looking forward to W10 without saying anything bad about OS X. I'll for sure having a closer look at it.

Sorry, I do not see the same devotion in you!

If you can demonstrate that you don't know the Apple line up, or fail on a 1-10 scoring scale..... there maybe a star for you ;) play your cards right....

Spot on. That is what I always say on these forums, all OS systems have pros and cons.

There use to be a lot of the old guard on here that were former prisoners of microsoft, switched during some bad microsoft OS implementations and have not used windows 7 etc, but post that any Microsoft OS is crap based on old war wounds. They refuse to accept that microsoft can do a good OS.

The younger generation, I think it comes down to I'm too cool, owning a mac is so much cooler than a windows PC, Generation Y. Myself having gone through so many OS systems cannot understand how someone could think windows 7 as an OS is terrible, apart from having the wrong brand against it.

However when you look at as in revolutionary features OS X has always out beat Windows. Beautiful Aqua UI, Widgets, etc, etc,....

I am sure Microsoft agrees with this 100%. There are just far too many businesses with software written on the old model. Virtualization is a great way to solve that problem and many people are using it for such, but many businesses do not and Microsoft cannot force them. You have to imagine how many small and medium sized businesses that have in-house custom software that was written 7+ years ago. Heck, I saw that my bank (a large bank) was still running Windows XP a year ago, so what does that tell you? Adoption is a slow and painful process when something isn't broke.
Heck some of the state government departments still use DOS programs, and a dot matrix printer with green bar paper.
